R.I.P.! I didn't know TOO much about him, but I knew his name (even prior to his work with Gaga) but never really knew his music much. Sad news.

Aww RIP :( what a great innings. I enjoyed seeing glimpses of his friendship with Gaga and his #1 song ‘Stranger In Paradise’ is lovely, another singer with a 50s #1 to their name gone following Harry Belafonte not too long ago.
RIP to a legend of his time. His Gaga collaborations showed that despite old age you can find a high level of relevance. I remember watching his MTV unplugged performance with Lady Gaga, it was truly heartwarming. RIP
</3 he lived to a great age and ofc had known health problems in the last few years so no surprise but that's a big loss. Nice that his association with Gaga gave him such a great late stage career revival.

They played Tony and Gaga’s ‘It Don’t Mean A Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)’ on Radio 2 as a tribute ❤️

RIP :(

An amazing man who had an amazing career and has really stood the test of time

I hope Gaga has people around her during this time. Tony really done so much for her on a personal level, he really saw her talent and encouraged her at a time when she felt like the world was against her

Streaming party for the Tony albums at some point to remember how special their relationship was and to have some positivity in remembering how Tony still had that vocal at that age.

Tony was someone my grandparents listened too and then I discovered him with Amy but then with Gaga I ended up listening to a LOT more of his material and I can see why he was such a legend. What a sting but what an amazing life he had right up until the end.

I'm still processing this terrifying news. It was with Cheek To Cheek that I really opened myself up to other styles of music, this was the biggest impact he achieved with his partnership with Gaga: reintroducing himself to a new generation and rescuing jazz for young people. Undeniable impact, he fulfilled his mission. I hope he rests in a better place.

Lady Gaga once said she was going to quit music, but Tony Bennett "saved" her life

When Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga released their first album together in 2014, some may have found them an unlikely pair. But the singers had gotten close and continued to create music as a duo, with Gaga even crediting Bennett, who died on Friday at age 96, with "saving" her.

"Six months ago I didn't even want to sing anymore," Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, told Parade Magazine in 2014 during an interview with Bennett as they promoted their album "Cheek to Cheek."

"Do you know what Duke Ellington said? He said, 'Number one, don't quit. Number two, listen to number one,'" Bennett quipped.

"Right! The other day, Tony said, 'I've never once in my career not wanted to do this.' It stung. Six months ago I didn't feel that way. I tell Tony every day that he saved my life," Gaga replied.

It appears the pressure of the music industry had gotten to Gaga, who released her album "Art Pop" the previous year.

"I'm not going to say any names, but people get irrational when it comes to money—with how they treat you, with what they expect from you," she told Parade. "But if you help an artist, it doesn't give you the right, once the artist is big, to take advantage of them."

"I was so sad. I couldn't sleep. I felt dead," she said. "And then I spent a lot of time with Tony. He wanted nothing but my friendship and my voice."

Bennett held Gaga's hand and replied: "I understand."

"It meant a lot to me, Tony. I don't have many people I can relate to," she said.

R.I.P. to the great Tony Bennett

Just one of the many duets he did

This one with Christina Aguilera

This has really got to me. My grandparents used to play Tony Bennett on their vinyl player so I associate him with them alot. My grandfather passed away a year ago and my grandmother also a couple of months afterwards, it’s really brought it back up.

My thought to his family and loved ones his legacy will be remembered forever in the hearts of so many. ❤️
