Welcome to Week 9 of these polls! :bounce:

"Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)" by the Eurythmics won the Week 8 poll with a record 14 votes! Credit to the others who made it into double figures - "Golden Brown" by The Stranglers (12 votes), "Only You" by Yazoo (11) and "Temptation" by Heaven 17 (10).

"Daddy's Home" gives Cliff Richard the honour of being the first artist to win won of these polls twice with 11 votes - unfortunately both times it's been the worst poll that he has won.

Best poll winners

week 1: Percy Faith - Theme From 'A Summer Place'

week 2: Petula Clark - Downtown

week 3: The Beach Boys - God Only Knows

week 4: The Beatles - Let It Be

week 5: Sparks - This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us

week 6: Greg Lake - I Believe In Father Christmas

week 7: Ultravox - Vienna

week 8: Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)

Worst poll winners

week 1: Russ Hamilton - We Will Make Love

week 2: Ned Miller - From A Jack To A King

week 3: Cliff Richard - Wind Me Up (Let Me Go)

week 4: Ray Stevens - Bridget The Midget (The Queen Of The Blues)

week 5: Marie Osmond - Paper Roses

week 6: Our Kid - You Just Might See Me Cry / Joe Tex - Ain't Gonna Bump No More

week 7: Star Sound - Stars On 45 (Volume 2)

week 8: Cliff Richard - Daddy's Home

Best:

Tears For Fears

A-ha

Sam Cooke

Bonnie

Queen

Worst:

Went for Culture Club and Su Pollard - I actually can't get vexed enough by Black Lace to vote for it

Not many that compare to my top faves from the last couple of weeks - I'd have voted for Borderline if included, but as it is I'll just vote Tears For Fears and await the inevitable of A-ha overtaking.

I can tolerate Agadoo, neil's version of Hole In My Shoe not so much.

I hadn't checked the final results of the previous poll yet, surprising that The Stranglers came 2nd! Last I checked Duran Duran were neck and neck with Eurythmics but I see they ended up falling quite a way behind in the end.

Voted for my top 3 classics (a-ha, Queen and Ray Parker Jr.) and King as a great discovery. Then Black Lace by far for the worst, I like 'The Chicken Dance' but the less intentionally parodic yet still equally dumb original is a step too far x

I would rank that Madonna song choice below most of the others on the worst list...

We may get to the stage where I can't vote for half the list and still have favourites left over going into the late 80s, but I still can now. Voted my top 6 of Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Ghostbusters, Holding Out for a Hero, Take on Me, Manic Monday & Live to Tell. The latter is a fairly recent discovery not from this session but my album bucket list and is a beautiful moment from her (though the remastered album version slightly more so).

It feels too obvious for worst, but Agadoo isn't something I've ever found fun (which is surprising given I stan other 80s novelty like The Birdie Song, Star Trekkin' and The Chicken Song but it is what it is x). I will vote for the War Song too for being clunky and self-indulgent.

I'm fairly selective this week, just voting for Radio Ga Ga and Everybody Wants To Rule The World.

For the worst, The War Song and Starting Together.

Live to Tell, best song of the whole 90s <3

Tactical again, I bought a-ha as a new classic but I see it winning easily unless I vote Tears For Fears, total classic head and shoulders above the rest. And also Queen is fab, the other track I bought new and fresh.

Hi De Hi Su! It's just lacklustre and she's much more suited to Agadoo, which would have got my vote otherwise. Its not nearly as bad as later novelty crimes in the 80's though.

What I'm seeing right now is a-ha still in the joint lead despite multiple people tactically snubbing it :teresa: It's ok to let a predictable but deserved winner win guys xx

if it was Sun Always Shines On TV I wouldve voted Team TFT and a-ha, but Take On Me is only my 2nd-fave a-ha record.

Worst : It's Raining Men :puke2:

Best : Holding Out For A Hero

LaFee cover >>>> A-ha original.

Surprised more people haven’t voted for The War Song - I’m with Ricky Gervais on this one.

Voted for everything in favourite as I like all of them ;)

Worst I voted Black Lace (as a party song it's fine but it's always been pretty naff on the whole.. I guess that's the point though lol but anyhow not for me) and I'm a big fan of them generally but Culture Club get a vote too as that's one of their few bad tracks for me!

Also poor Su, got into Hi-De-Hi through lockdown and she has a lovely voice.

That’s cute but has the same effect as not voting.

The Weather Girls say thank you though. ;)

all this culture club negativity  I bought it at the time, I liked the simplicity of the message - War is stupid. People are stupid. Exhibit One: the news for the last 20,000 years. Others at the time were less kind, the tide turned, and that was the end of their career pretty much. That, and the drugs, and the falling out. That last saga still continues to run as they become eligible for Saga.... :o
