Posted August 14, 20231 yr CjHG25QwYeg We are proud to announce a new album from Sufjan, Javelin, on October 6th. The first single, “So You Are Tired,” is available for listening now, alongside a lyric video.Javelin marks Sufjan’s first solo album of songs since The Ascension, and his first in full singer-songwriter mode since Carrie & Lowell. At times, Javelin has the feel of a big team album production — but it is decidedly not: almost every sound here is the result of Sufjan writing and recording at home, building by himself what sometimes feels like a testament to ‘70s Los Angeles studio opulence. The contributions come from a close circle of friends – adrienne maree brown, Hannah Cohen, Pauline Delassus, Megan Lui and Nedelle Torrisi – who provide harmonies on many songs, and Bryce Dessner, who plays acoustic and electric guitar on “Shit Talk.”Asthmatic Kitty 01 Goodbye Evergreen 02 A Running Start 03 Will Anybody Ever Love Me? 04 Everything That Rises 05 Genuflecting Ghost 06 My Red Little Fox 07 So You Are Tired 08 Javelin (To Have and to Hold) 09 Shit Talk 10 There’s a World

September 20, 20231 yr oh poor Sufjan, wishing him a full recovery: Hi Friends. Quick update on my life. I'm very excited about having new music to share, but I just wanted to let you know that one of the reasons why I haven't been able to participate in the press and promotion leading up to the release of Javelin is bc I am in the hospital. Last month I woke up one morning and couldn't walk. My hands, arms and legs were numb and tingling and I had no strength, no feeling, no mobility. My brother drove me to the ER and after a series of tests—MRIs, EMGs, cat scans, X-rays, spinal taps (!), echo-cardiograms, etc.—the neurologists diagnosed me with an auto immune disorder called Guillian-Barre Syndrome. Luckily there's treatment for this — they administer immuno-hemoglobin infusions for five days and pray that the disease doesn't spread to the lungs, heart and brain. Very scary, but it worked. I spent about two weeks in Med/Surg, stuck in a bed, while my doctors did all the things to keep me alive and stabilize my condition. I owe them my life. On September 8, I was transferred to acute rehab, where I am now undergoing intensive physical therapy/occupational therapy, strength building etc. to get my body back in shape and to learn to walk again. It's a slow process, but they say I will "recover," it just takes a lot of time, patience, and hard work. Most people who have GBS learn to walk again on their own within a year, so I am hopeful. I'm only in my second week of rehab but it is going really well and I am working really hard to get back on my feet. I'm committed to getting better, I'm in good spirits, and I'm surrounded by a really great team. I want to be well! I'll keep you posted as I progress. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. And a huge shout out to all the incredible caretakers of the world working night and day to help us heal. They are living saints. Be well, be joyful, stay sane, stay safe. I love you. yours truly from a wheelchair XOXOXO Sufjan Stevens
September 20, 20231 yr Wow that sounds absolutely horrifying - glad it seems he is on the road to recovery but eek!
October 5, 20231 yr already reviewed on Pitchfork ahead of the release this Friday, great review (8.6) https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/sufjan-stevens-javelin/
October 6, 20231 yr This is incredible. It's like all my favourite things about Sufjan's music all rolled into one  I can already see it being one of my absolute favourites of his, and so many of these will be Sufjan classics – Shit Talk is the standout for me on first listen. That one really stopped me in my tracks. Absolutely gorgeous. The news of his health really shocked me, it looks like he's out of hospital now so hopefully over the worst of it. So scary though, and it sounds like it's something that doesn't necessarily have a quick recovery time.
