It’s ok. I like the melody of the chorus but the song itself doesn’t go anywhere enough to hold my attention. Not a fan of the message either and they don’t even make sense in the context of Miley’s life. Didn’t she break up with Liam because he wanted her to ‘calm down’?

I’m sad to say I’m pretty much over Miley as an artist. She just seems to put in the bare minimum; the music isn’t up to scratch bar a handful of songs and those that are good just get left to fizzle out (i.e. Jaded). The whole not wanting to tour again thing rubs me up the wrong way too. It’s a shame because even as recently as New Year with her performances with Dolly, she really showed herself to be a force to be reckoned with.

I thought the Plastic Hearts era was great but everything about ESV has fell flat for me :(.

The music video probably cost about a tenner to make. :lame:

A fair few tracks I'd have favoured to be a single over this. What a non-event of an era post-Flowers :( a shame because some of the album tracks really grew on me.

I’m going to go against the popular verdict here…

I bloody love this! Sincere, emotional and a strong chorus.

I have a real bee in my bonet about this song. I'm six years older than her, but she's speaking about being 30 as if it's old and like your life is over at that point.

Well, no actually. 30 is still young and you need get a god damn grip!

I don't get the 'life is over at 30' message from the lyrics at all? The message I'm getting from the song is that she's more grown up now and she no longer does the stupid sh!t she used to do when she was younger.

Agreed. This is just a self-referencing song and kind of also a response to her critics past and present “you say I used to be crazy… I say I Used to be Young” and about how much she’s matured as an artist over the years.

Never inderstood the “life is over at 30” critique.

I agree, to me it is saying “of course I went crazy and has fun, I was young and didn’t know any better”, it’s looking back at what she did and got flack for 10 years ago, it’s not saying she is now practically dead and lamenting her life now.

I really like this tbh, it’s nothing amazing to be a single but I prefer it it a lot of ESV which kind of came and went for me. Jaded, Island, River or Violet Chemistry would make better singles to get a proper chance though.

Just to remind you, Adele wrote When We Were Young from the perspective of a 25 years old.
