I think semi 1 has the most songs I actively dislike in a semi for quite a while  (and imagine my shock that Leah Kate isn't even one of them!) Have a pretty good top 10 though which is all that really matters (and even that doesn't really matter since I'm in the other semi lol). Not really any big surprises among my faves, all the songs I thought looked good on paper turned out to be good pretty much! Hype to Abeltesfayeton (this one surely is a qualifier, sounds very accessible for a rap entry), Aelandor, Fljótavík, Jadakissnia and Terra Avium for playing to my various usual niches x

Probably going to do the semi 2 listenthrough on Wednesday :jump:

I look forward to some points ;)

entered with the hopes that it would be a surprise q like the magnetic fields earlier this year bc it's in the same vein, but that semi draw makes me think I'm coming for a dnq lol

cool to see harmonica enter bartees strange again, also intrigued to see how mars volta will do in the other semi! only artists I know from my semi are Corinne Bailey rae and samia (whose 2020 album I really enjoyed), and I guess Sara bareilles/busy phillips which I guess is from a musical?

At least once a month I must hear a new song sampling Dragostea Din Tei. Just last week it was Let's Go Mia by Evangelina, which I was half expecting to show up here.

There are some very strong songs this month. My initial thoughts on this contest are that Addison Rae has the pop vote completely sewn up, and DJ HEARTSTRING has the dance vote, so maybe a Aesthetica/Kathaldazia battle. With the way Addison Rae is basically the biggest thing on pop music internet right now, and this song sounds BIG, I could see it potentially being a Madison Rose style win.

As an aside, I'm very glad Fljótavík didn't change their entry. What a mesmerising piece.

Oh I’m really chuffed to see Headache get a couple of positive mentions from Bré and Rich - I really wasn’t sure it would connect but it did with me so I guess I ought to have more faith.

I find it fascinating, as I do all their songs. I don’t know much about the artist but it’s refreshing to hear lyrics from the perspective of someone with mental troubles. I found it very stark on first listen but now I think it’s quite beautiful and compelling.

When the pop hoes realise the Leah Kate song > Addison Rae's... then WHAT???

And then you wake up from the nightmare!

I really like Addison too!!! It's just... not my favourite pop entry! It's a cute bop though and wouldn't begrudge it winning

I’m only kidding anyway, I actually enjoyed the Leah song!
