It always amazes me that record companies, no matter what era of consumption method is dominant, will find some way to manipulate the charts to their advantage

Building up a backlog of pre-ordered physical singles over a few weeks and then just dropping them into a convenient week when your main competition is closest to you is really very cheeky. If the OCC were that bothered about artists signing singles, I'm surprised they don't clamp down on this practice. Will still never forgive Harry's label for doing it when Space Man was heading for No.1.

Good for Olivia, I FAR prefer the track to Doja's, but these CDs were due out next week, it's super shady.

Completely agree and I also much prefer Olivia’s song. Building up sales and dumping them in the week when it’s most advantageous really bothers me. I don’t think the OCC were tackling the correct problem in banning signed singles.

Do you think Olivia's team released it early so that Doja can't get #1?

I doubt they have any interest in whether Doja reaches #1 in future weeks but they probably figured (rightly) that this was the week to go for #1 before Doja’s streaming becomes unassailable.

The run of number 1's going:

Billie - Dua - Olivia - Doja

is insane and feels like a Buzzjack fever dream

Poor 'Cruel Summer'! I really wish Taylor and her team remembered it was in the charts and could definitely have been in contention for one of those weeks </3

If Olivia stays at #1 by Friday, I hope Doja gets it next week as I reckon Olivia will be #1 on 15th due to album effect
imagine if Taylor released physical singles :o the #1s she could have added to her list!
Got my vampire cd today. And occ posted that 5000 units separate Olivia at #1 from doja at. #2

Not necessarily, vampire could be on ACR by then and recently we’ve seen that album release doesn’t always boost songs

My vampire CD hasn't been dispatched (or processed) yet that I know of, so there could be more physicals to be added to the sales total too...!

Why didn't drop they drop the pre-ordered physical singles last week when sales were lower and Doja Cat was not as much competition?

Guessing they didn't think they could compete with Dua playing the same physical game.

I only got my dispatched notification yesterday evening (about 4pm)

I'm gonna guess because they probably didn't see Doja coming last week and thought they could hold out for the 8th.

The occ article says “see the full update here” and it’s still the link to the old one 😭

Im guessing Olivia has sold around 8K physicals with more to be added

so sure she would have beat Dua and been #1 last week if released :)
