But according to some, it should be doing this without Hot Hits off the back of 'Padam Padam' <_<

Yes, the streaming powerhouse that is Kylie should be leaping up the charts off the back of a #8 UK hit.

I’m sure the trolls make it up as they go along on here

Did Griff manage to re enter the top 200 from Taylor promoting her song on her insta?

No.

In my opinion, new Kylie should be doing better, it's not doing bad but should be doing better

Padam Padam should have made her more popular within the streaming generation

not to the point of debuting at #1 but to the point of doing better than #200-300

that's not trolling, that's an opinion

Idk if I was included in that "some people" but that wasn't what I (personally) meant at all... (I presume it's a certain someone else it was targeted at but still, I wanna elaborate a lil)

My (personal) point was that people were somewhat surprised it had a bigger debut/better hold than 'Padam Padam' as if it was a surprising thing to happen? I assumed that was going to happen due to PP being a big viral moment, setting 'Tension' up to have a stronger debut and opening weekend, just down to PP bringing some renewed casual interest to Kylie. I absolutely knew that now that the weekend is over Hot Hits/Playlisting in general, is going to be important and needed now that the fanbase & casual initial listens are done with. (and as I stated - I appreciate it doesn't always work out that way, but usually they get a higher debut and vanish after initial hype wears off and make a return/linger a little longer than the previous release did, depending how well received the song is beyond initial hype).

I don't think her spending the weekend in the top 200 is a "disappointment" or even an "under performance" at all (like someone else suggested). I think it's done just about what I expected really. Now as I said a moment ago, I agree that Hot Hits etc.. is more important from this point on.

I'm rubbish with words but hopefully you all understand more now what I was *trying* to say at least

How many songs by artists generally not known for having streaming smashes climb the top 200 without Hot Hits, unless they're gone viral on Tik Tok or something similar. Padam was a great hit for Kylie, but it peaked at #8, it wasn't some all-encompassing #1 smash.

And to be honest, I'd say Padam has helped. It's #31 on Apple Music, and spent 4 days in the top 200, all of which I assume would not have happened without that.

I think we've seen many times now that having one big hit doesn't get you a second, whether it's Cat Burns or LF System etc, unless you're an established streaming era artist like Dua and even she can struggle sometimes. For an artist like Kylie who doesn't have a big streaming foothold I think it would have been unwise to expect lightning to strike twice - to me the single is doing as well as could have been expected really.

You're entitled to your opinion by all means, but your expectations are - in my opinion - very high and unrealistic. As mentioned, Tension is not experiencing notable virality, which was a key element in Padam Padam's success story. Padam doing extraordinarily well for Kylie came with no guarantees of making "Kylie more popular within the streaming generation", but Padam has quite clearly had a good effect for Tension to have spent 4 days straight in the Top 200. Now its playlisting needs to grow, Hots Hits UK being key, of course. Without this, I just don't see how Tension could be expected to be riding high in the Top 200 a few days into its release.

It kind of is, though. Especially when I've seen you in the past berate people for "not knowing how streaming works" for expecting something to be charting without a Hot Hits add or even expecting an act to get a second hit automatically, so it's dumbfounding you're suddenly taking this angle.

Yes, the streaming powerhouse that is Kylie should be leaping up the charts off the back of a #8 UK hit.

I’m sure the trolls make it up as they go along on here

 They do!!

I'll say it again: if Kylie had a streaming name on thw track, we'd be talking about a no.1 here. What an BOP!

Padam Padam wasn’t just a big hit though, like those songs you mentioned (also, it does depend on how well received the follow up single is too - and ‘Tension’ has (for the most part) been incredibly well received). Padam Padam was a major (positive) viral moment that’s still kinda felt after all these months, which translated into being a big hit and so I just assumed that naturally, initial interest would be higher than usual in a follow up from her (and it has been).

I agree that it’s done pretty much as I expected so far. Now we gotta wait and see what kinda playlisting it gets that can help it become a hit of some sort.

I think it's much more special she's achieving all this on her own without having to go down that route.

I dont even think Padam was that big? It was big but it was not massive in any way

If you put it into context it was hun, it was by a legacy artist, a mature woman who usually never gets playlist support on streaming on any of the big playlists and gets no playlisting on "youth" radio. So hun, yes it was. Plus the charts at the time were very competitive. Sales wise, it will be coming for 300k soon. Which is great for an artist that is not o"on trend" plus as others have pointed out hun, she did this with no feature.

Just Carol Honey ❤️

LOL. Kylie coming for her biggest debut in decades and still she has the haters. Lets hope the Singing Budgie proves people wrong again.
Yeah I'd say for what it was 'Padam Padam' selling 300k+ is a big hit and it'll continue selling some more by year end and this is considering the fact she's in her mid 50's and hadn't had a hit in 12 years too!
Kylie hadn't had a hit in 12 years too!

I'd say Dancing was a moderate / cute hit for her. :magic:
