Rules

  • There will be several rounds where we will vote for themes to be knocked out like a singles survivor until we have our winner
  • You must only vote for your TWO least favourite themes in this round. Please do not vote for any more than this to keep it fair.
  • You have until 23:59 (BST) on 27/09/23 to vote in this round.
  • You are free to reveal your nomination choice now should you wish to or keep it a secret, it's up to you.
Theme Explanations

*Techno & Artistic/Experimental Electronica - Artistic electronic music so may not necessarily have a big drop or sound 'dated'. It sounds a bit more atmospheric

*Celebrating the Rise of Woman & Non-Binary People in Music - To celebrate the rising levels of equality within the business. People could choose to submit either a classic dance vocalist, an early pioneer or one of the increasing numbers of female/non-binary DJs and producers who are becoming more prominent

*Transformations - Remixes, covers, samples, interpolations, reworks etc. that completely transform the original piece. Highlighting the transformative nature of dance and electronic music and its ability to shapeshift and inspire future generations of music.

*Classic / Original Electronica - in terms of the original 90s definition. Something less high energy but with prominent uses of electronic instruments, synths and ambience. Think Moby and Massive Attack primarily.

*Halloween - dark, spooky, gothic dance music

The hardcore etc. one is now the only one of these left that I'm not too keen on (just by personal preference) - I've given my other vote to 'classic/original electronica' now just because we had that as a theme for the retro contest already this year.
I went Hardcore etc (love a bit of hardcore - 'bit' being the operative word, would struggle with a full contest of it) and Halloween.

Voted for hardcore and classical as well!!

It's not 'classical' but classic electronica, think Massive Attack for instance. Unless I'm just misunderstanding your understanding here

For once, I'll tell my votes.

Disco - it's not clear to me (yet) how strictly this cover. If it includes subgenres or branching off it.

Transformations - the idea of this sounds a bit annoying considering the amount of tracks we know of/have been exposed to that sample a record, etc.

Disco would be anything that fits under that umbrella, both new and old. What sort of subgenres are you thinking would be excluded? It's a pretty open theme

I was thinking "disco" would be the 70's and 80's stuff and their style.

The subgenres/variations would be future funk and nu-disco.

Edit: I could've considered asking before voting but then I might still pick that (if not Industrial).

I like to see Halloween in the lead atm.

Oh no my choice is out.

Down Under for reasons previously stated.

Transformations as I generally like to just find original workings and not to search through all the many remixes.

Oh no I accidentally voted for my most favourite not least :(

If you tell us what it is we can change? Either in here or by PM
