BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2023 week 37 and auto-qualifying for the September monthly round is Olivia Rodrigo - get him back!.

 

 

It was a very close call for the win this week, actually being a tie at the time I originally planned to post this new poll, but after a little extension American singer Olivia Rodrigo managed to just about pull ahead to a 1 vote lead, getting the support of exactly half of voters with the 90s rock flavoured impact track / third single from sophomore album 'GUTS' following its debut in the low end of the top 10. She becomes the first artist to win 3 of these polls as lead artist, having done so with all 3 of her new hits of the year, and the second artist with 3 poll wins overall after Taylor Swift. Just missing out then is the second single from former Mixer LeAnn Flops Leigh-Anne with Ayra Starr. That follows 'Don't Say Love' also coming 2nd in its poll albeit by a much larger margin (behind Peggy Gou). Like last week the top 5 all make it to the double figure votes mark - Tyla loses the battle of the female afrobeats hits but comes in a respectable third with her debut chart appearance 5 votes behind Leigh and Ayra, legends The Rolling Stones with their surprise top 40 comeback 60 years on from their first hit lands in 4th place one further vote behind, and one more vote behind is the reunion of Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion with a slightly less impactful follow-up to their iconic 'WAP'.

 

Among the other also-rans it's only the witch house flavoured fragment from SUICIDAL-IDOL which also manages to crack the 5 vote mark. Campbell and Alcemist's drum n bass remake of the late 90s oddity 'Would You...?' managed 4 votes, just ahead of the latest solo BTS offering and the latest Clavish cannon fodder (now with additional Aitch), and the rear is brought up by another UK rap song that I saved from joining Clavish's 'No Difference' in the 0 votes club, poor brave Skrapz.

Another 10 new entries this week, although for the first time in a little while I've included 2 versions of one of them (I don't think either version of the Noah Kahan song individually charted anywhere here last week but the solo version did make a brief appearance in the Spotify top 200 when he released the deluxe of his album, and it charted for the first time following the release of the duet version, so seems fair to consider both versions significant). Totalling 38 minutes and 6 seconds this week including both versions of 'Call Your Mom'.

Voting for my top 2 this week. 'greedy' is a banger and 'PARK CHINOIS' is the best of the Headie/K-Trap collabs I've heard so far. K-Trap murders Headie on this one.

 

Rushy kinds sounds like a baby K-Trap on 'Pressure'. It's alright but not amazing. 'On My Love' is not the sort of song I enjoy from Zara but I think this sounds pretty pleasant.

 

French Montana's verse on 'Another One Of Me' is awful but the rest is ok. 'A N X I E T Y' nearly works for me but it's a bit too all over the place.

 

The Mitski, Drake & Noah Kahan tracks aren't very interesting. Lizzy McAlpine does slightly save 'Call Your Mom' though.

 

'Liquor & Cigarettes' is so much worse than 'Baddadan' which eventually kinda grew on me a tad. We didn’t need ArrDee back. The bit that sounds like ‘Blood On The Leaves’ just makes me wish I was listening to that instead.

Actually enjoyed 5 of these - C&as, Zara, Sleepy Hallow, Mitski and Noah. Not getting the fuss about the Tate song really - not keen on the autotuney vocal sound.
