October 2, 20231 yr He has some in store signings this week I believe so I expect that to add some sales on. Mahbe my 40k guess was still a bit too optimistic!
October 2, 20231 yr Banquet Records posted that Ed’s signing today was for 1,500 people, so at least that amount to be added in sales.
October 2, 20231 yr I am shocked his sales arent higher, really cant see it doing more than 35k which isnt bad when you look at the sales of many number 1's but for Ed its low.
October 3, 20231 yr Nah, his next album will do a lot better as he'll be going back to making radio and streaming friendly pop songs
October 3, 20231 yr Nah, his next album will do a lot better as he'll be going back to making radio and streaming friendly pop songs and all the tricks, payola etc.
October 3, 20231 yr Nah, his next album will do a lot better as he'll be going back to making radio and streaming friendly pop songs Exactly, which is why I'm not counting my chickens on this narrative that he's in decline. I feel like he could easily be in just as good a position as he was previously.
October 3, 20231 yr I don't think the difference between "Pop-Ed" and "Flop-Ed" is not as big as you believe. The pop sound he did 2017-2020 is simply out of fashion now to some extent and he doesn't have the "ooh new Ed Sheeran" factor in him any more. The latest Selena Gomez single is straight from the 2017 and a straight underperformance on charts. Edited October 3, 20231 yr by Sour Candy

The latest Selena Gomez single is straight from the 2017 and a straight underperformance on charts. Ed Sheeran released "Celestial" last year to soundtrack the Pokémon game, and it became a moderately successful pop hit. The general public know what to expect from Ed's pop music, and he doesn't need to deviate from it too much.
October 3, 20231 yr Ed Sheeran released "Celestial" last year to soundtrack the Pokémon game, and it became a moderately successful pop hit. The general public know what to expect from Ed's pop music, and he doesn't need to deviate from it too much. Eyes closed has been a huge hit this year. It always amazes me people act dumb on here when it comes to Ed. Everyone knows multiple hits are what sell an album and keep an albun afloat these days with the streaming rules (and why the chart is full of GH and old albums that have loads of hits on). They also know Ed has released 1 proper single this year and two albums. Of course his streaming is down and album sales/longevity is too. If Ed wanted a big album, with a long chart run he would release multiple singles before it and do a big album campaign. Not release an album without a single on his own label with a few weeks pre-orders.
October 3, 20231 yr This album can be compared to evermore by Taylor Swift which also had no real single/promotion. Evermore did do essentially half of folklore everywhere, and she came back with midnights. Don’t count Ed out next. PS I know evermore has done better worldwide but it was still a big decline from folklore in terms of commercial success
October 3, 20231 yr I still think it’d be foolish to assume this apparent decline hasn’t been orchestrated by Ed himself. He could probably still get the high sales if he put the effort into choosing singles, sticking to a pop sound and promoting the album. But he’s trying to come across as a more authentic artist for his image. And it seems to be working, like pretty much everything else he does.
October 3, 20231 yr Well, the fact he openly admitted before - was released that it was his first "authentic" album and that everything he'd ever done up to that point was intended for commerce confirmed to me that he is actually a fraud.

This exactly. Even this release doesn’t feel authentic to me as it’s all played out the way I think he wanted it to. Some will say he just wants to be ‘good at his job’ but to me that would require having much more depth than Ed is capable of.
October 3, 20231 yr And frankly, he isn't very interesting artist. Edited October 3, 20231 yr by Sour Candy

October 3, 20231 yr Yeah this is doing much worse than evermore, evermore at least had a hit in Willow. Ed’s doing these numbers with physicals and he’ll still barely outsell evermore
