Thanks to the 40 people who participated in last week's poll :jump:

Official results from week 38:

[ 21 ] Tate McRae - greedy (#8)

[ 21 ] Chase And Status and Hedex - Liquor & Cigarettes (feat. ArrDee) (#31)

[ 16 ] Zara Larsson and David Guetta - On My Love (#38)

[ 11 ] Mitski - My Love Mine All Mine (#63)

[ 6 ] K-Trap and Headie One - PARK CHINOIS (#50)

[ 5 ] Drake - Slime You Out (feat. SZA) (#10)

[ 4 ] Noah Kahan - Call Your Mom (w/ Lizzy McAlpine / solo) (#83)

[ 4 ] Diddy - Another One Of Me (feat. The Weeknd, French Montana and 21 Savage) (#98)

[ 4 ] Rushy - Pressure (#99)

[ 3 ] Sleepy Hallow - A N X I E T Y (feat. Doechii) (#52)

BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hits for 2023 week 38 are Tate McRae - greedy and Chase And Status and Hedex - Liquor & Cigarettes (feat. ArrDee).

Using the debut chart position as a tiebreaker, 'greedy' will also auto-qualify for the September monthly round.

For the fourth time to date (despite me being lazy and leaving the poll open for a few extra days ) we ended up with a tie for the win. Tate McRae's Timbaland-esque immediate top 10 hit and possible future #1 'greedy' (presumably from a yet to be announced forthcoming 2nd studio album) makes her the third Canadian to win a poll after The Weeknd and Ryan Gosling. British producer duo and DnB veterans Chase And Status already have a song booked in the yearly final but pick up their first win in a weekly poll with 'Liquor & Cigarettes', their third hit of the year and third concurrent top 40 hit, and the second single taken from forthcoming mixtape '2 Ruff, Vol.1'. Co-credited fellow British producer Hedex gets an immediate poll win with his first ever hit and it's also unsurprisingly the first win for featured British rapper ArrDee whose 2 previous new hits of the year got a combined 5 votes. This song casually gets just over 4 times that many votes, with it and 'greedy' both getting the support of just over half of voters. 5 votes back in 3rd place is the latest collab between Zara Larsson and David Guetta (both former poll winners but unable to add to that tally this week) and then another 5 votes back in 4th, another singles chart debutant Mitski has the last song of the week to reach double figure votes.

Of the other also-rans only 2 out of 6 managed to reach the 5 vote mark, a decent enough showing there for K-Trap and Headie One and even Drake having a reasonable amount of support. Not so lucky for the other rap songs of the week, as Diddy & co. and Rushy both fell just short on 4 votes while the rear is held up by Sleepy Hallow and Doechii's curious Gotye-sampling track which only got 3 votes. Noah Kahan also finds himself down with the flops, with or without Lizzy McAlpine.

Final week of September now and we have 9 last contenders for the month totalling 33 minutes and 13 seconds. That includes not one but two blink-182 songs and a throwback hit from G-Eazy that no one asked for along with the usual spattering of UK rap cannon fodder. I have a feeling we may be seeing another name on the 3 poll wins list.

Vote for as many or as few songs as you want and would be ideal if you can make sure you've heard all the songs before voting if possible!

As this thread is a bit late again I think I'll aim to get the next poll up (alongside the September monthly round) on Monday evening.

My rankings from last week:

1 'PARK CHINOIS' 9/10

2 'greedy' 8.5/10

3 'My Love Mine All Mine' 8/10

4 'Pressure' 8/10

5 'On My Love' 7.5/10

6 'Call Your Mom' 7/10

7 'A N X I E T Y' 6.5/10

8 'Liquor & Cigarettes' 6.5/10

9 'Another One Of Me' 6/10

10 'Slime You Out' 6/10

Voted for the top 5. Impressed with the UK rap tracks this week, I did listen to the Headie/Trapo mixtape and found it a bit hit or miss but 'PARK CHINOIS' is definitely one of the two biggest highlights on it for me (along with 'ANPR'), Headie continues to be one of the most consistently enjoyable UK drill artists for me and he delivers as usual on this song but it shines over other tracks from the mixtape (including the one in this week's poll) by a very strong showing from K-Trap, easily his best hook I've ever heard, plus great production here. Also loving the atmospheric production on the Rushy track and enjoying his flow on it as well, not heard of him before but this is a positive first impression. 'greedy' is definitely the most I've ever immediately enjoyed a Tate McRae song and it's only grown on me with a couple more listens, I didn't realise I was this nostalgic for a good 00s Timbaland knockoff, really infectious track, could be challenging 'she's all i wanna be' for her best song for me (not that I like many of her songs but I'll take the good ones when they come by). As I've posted elsewhere a couple of times 'My Love Mine All Mine' is far from the best from this Mitski album but it's still a really lovely track that I'm happy to have in the chart. I'm a little mystified at BuzzJack's general indifference/negativity to the Zara/Guetta track as I actually think it's easily the best charting David Guetta track since at least 2019 (unless you count his remix of 'Love Tonight') and one of Zara's better hits too, definitely miles clear of their previous charting collab - not reinventing the wheel or anything but I think it's very solid for a commercial dance pop track! It's like a version of Chris Brown's 'Beautiful People' which I can enjoy without the guilt of knowing it's Chris Brown x From the rest, everything this week was at least decent - the verses of the Noah Kahan track kept reminding me of 'Fix You' although obviously nowhere near as good but still very nice and pleasant song, I give points to 'A N X I E T Y' for at least sounding quite different with the very minimal production and I enjoyed the verses on it but the Gotye sample does come across just a little goofy and I wasn't really feeling the Doechii hook (don't feel like she's been well represented by her 2 top 100 hits so far). Another goofy sample of Phil Collins on the Diddy song too, The Weeknd and to a lesser extent 21 Savage do the heavy lifting to save that song from being pure mid but half of the song is Diddy and French Montana who are unsurprisingly complete non-presences on it. I like the drop on 'Liquor & Cigarettes' but I think society has kind of progressed beyond the need for ArrDee at this point, better this than his last 2 hits though. And finally I liked 'Slime You Out' a bit less than I did when I first heard it on the chart show, Radio 1 did it a favour cutting off everything after SZA's part which does start to get a bit tedious but it still gets a pass overall for good production and another stellar feature from SZA plus Drake at least trying a little bit more than he did on his last single even if he's still by far the weakest part of his own song.

Voted for Kylie and Tom Odell, the remainder are all varying shades of meh. Wouldn't have thought I'd ever be voting for Tom in one of these but the song is legit good (and 'Another Love' has grown a bit on me since its chart revival)

Just voting for Doja Cat this week in a pretty poor week overall. I'm not even a fan of 'Agora Hills' but it's the closest I've come to liking on of hers this era. I really like the spoken parts but the 'Fortnite' line is so bad.

'Hold On To Now' is, also, the best I've heard from Kylie this era. The first one of the 3 charting singles to not sound overly gimmicky, Nines' 'Daily Duppy' has a few nice punchlines but I'm not agreeing with the online hype of it being ones of the best Duppys. It's nowhere near as good as Fredo first one, Avelino's, Ghetts's or J Hus's.

G-Eazy is rubbish on 'Tumblr Girls' but the sung parts sounded quite nice. 'TRIPLE THREAT' has a 'booth/truth' line in the year 2023 which kinda sums up that one.

I'm not hearing what has made 'Black Friday' so popular. I find it devoid of any life or emotion.

The sample of the meme song feels so unnecessary on 'Got Me Started' and makes it hard to take seriously.

The terrible vocals make the two blink-182 tracks poor listens. At least the bad vocals fit the tone more on 'MORE THAN YOU KNOW' compared to when they're trying to be emotional on 'ONE MORE TIME'.

Nines - Daily Duppy (#20) - production is tight but the vocal delivery is lazy and sloppy. liked the ed edd n eddy line tho

Tom Odell - Black Friday (#21) - as with literally everything i've ever heard by him, this is shite. he could have at least released on black friday!

blink-182 - ONE MORE TIME (#28) - well this is an absolute borefest...

Doja Cat - Agora Hills (#29) - ...and so is this

Headie One, K-Trap and Clavish - TRIPLE THREAT (#31) - "aks" alert! nothing new or interesting to see here otherwise

Troye Sivan - Got Me Started (#56) - ok anyone who can sample bag raiders and keep a straight face deserves a vote from me

Kylie Minogue - Hold On To Now (#81) - oh i like this, very ethereal sounding. melody in the chorus reminds me of asdis angel eyes too

G-Eazy - Tumblr Girls (feat. Christoph Andersson) (#98) - this guy might be alright if he actually had a good voice, not this sleazebag style

blink-182 - MORE THAN YOU KNOW (#99) - this is leagues better than that other thing in the top 40

Voted Troye, Kylie & blink x1.

Kylies hold onto now.

Hold On (insert space here) To Now 😩

01. Tom Odell - Black Friday (#21)

02. Doja Cat - Agora Hills (#29)

07. Headie One, K-Trap and Clavish - TRIPLE THREAT (#31)

08. Nines - Daily Duppy (#20)

09. G-Eazy - Tumblr Girls (feat. Christoph Andersson) (#98)

Voted for Tom Odell and Doja Cat.

I'm very pleased that Nines has broken Central Cee's record of having the highest charting 'Daily Duppy'! Nines' 'Daily Duppy' is also one of the best ones in existence imo (not that there have been particularly great ones in the past lol). The production is really smooth and it really complements Nines' flow. 'Agora Hills' is probably the most light-hearted song on 'Scarlet' but it remains a cute bop. I'm really enjoying Troye's direction so far for his new record, I've never really been a fan of his music previously but i'm slowly turning into a stand thanks to this era! 'Got Me Started' isn't as good as 'Rush' but it is still a lo-fi(ish) tune! 'Black Friday' is a rather beautiful song and one of my favourite works from Tom to date. I can see why 'Hold On To Now' was set to be the lead from Kylie's latest album as it is a bit of a euphoric banger! 'TRIPLE THREAT' is yet another great offering from the K-Trap X Headie One tape, their flows really compliment each other and Clavish is decent on the song. Blink 182 sound pretty cringy on both of these new cuts (they always have imo) but I do prefer the sounds of 'MORE THAN YOU KNOW'. 'Tumblr Girls' is just boring trash and I have no clue why this has any appeal to the TikTok generation as TikTok hits (usually) have some kind of interesting element or shock factor attached to them.

Thought it was a high quality week. I quite enjoyed the Troye and Kylie songs but didn’t vote for either and instead went for Tom, Blink x2, Doja and G-Eazy.
Songs which are up against one big favourite which people have come into this poll specifically to vote for are at a bit of a disadvantage. Tom Odell is currently on 14/51 (27.5%) of voters, putting him behind the likes of 'Bongos' which had 10/36 voters (27.8%) a couple of weeks earlier.
