'Crying For No Reason' is gorgeous. Amazed it's top 10 here though for some reason let alone 2 years running along with the one stint ages ago.

Interesting to see 'Blinding Lights' fall down a lot there! Still a good song but not as highly into it as back then!

6 ** 454 RAYE (feat. 070 Shake) - Escapism.

06-

1st, 2022

Just missing out on a top 5 debut is ‘Escapism.’ however it is the highest new entry for this year. ‘Escapism.’ topped the 2022 vote and automatically went through to the final this year, finishinf as the top ranked song for that year by quite some way. In the final vote the song received 21 votes, however just 6 top 10 rankings, it did receive quite a number of lower end rankings which I think held it back from debuting higher. ‘Escapism.’ was released towards the end of 2022 when RAYE had become an independent artist after years of releasing material and trying to change her sound to pander to her record company in order to gain a big hit as a lead artist. She had released other songs such as ‘Black Mascara.’ however ‘Escapism.’ blew up over TikTok and subsequently raced up the streaming charts to give RAYE a huge hit. It then went on to peak at Number 1 earlier this year and kind of proved all the doubters and her previous record company wrongly about the material she should be releasing. Its an infectious song and one that deserved to do well, it was also pleasing to see RAYE gain a number 1 after so many years of trying and releasing songs. Its good to see ‘Escapism.’ have such a good debut on ROTD and it’ll be interesting to see how it holds up year on year and if it can improve, or challenge for the top spot. ‘Escapism.’ finishes 17pts behind the song in 5th place and is 78pts behind the song in 1st place.

Now just 5 songs remain...

Hoping a top 3 finish for the 1HW DJ.
Not ENTIRELY sure Escapism will be able to keep up such high positions in years to come, but it really did feel like a moment in time. Blew up and suddenly felt like it was everywhere, from an artist who'd been trying so hard for like a decade. A very satisfying moment and does still sound fantastic tbf, so maybe I'll eat my words on my first statement.

 5 4 471 Weeknd - Save Your Tears (Original / Ariana Grande Remix)

04-05-

1st, 2021

We most definitely have a new performer claiming the RotD title this year now as starting off the top five we have 'Save Your Tears'. The song falls a place after having been last year's biggest new entry, and on this occasion is the highest-placed song by The Weeknd. The song won the year of 2021 with ease yet again placing 9 positions above Billie Eilish in the final, and it received 17 votes (the joint-lowest in the top 5). Taken from 'After Hours' as a very late single release, it quickly rose into prominence following its viral music video which saw The Weeknd seemingly having undergone plastic surgery on his face. The song was given a further chart boost following a remix with Ariana Grande eventually settling for a UK #2 peak but spending over 100 weeks in the chart. The song also saw The Weeknd once again work with the number one Swedish songwriter Max Martin and with an 80s sound to it, it was seemingly destined to be a big commercial and critical success.

Faded being quite this high is a choice but not too surprising given Buzzjacks taste.

Hoping for a Midnight Sky win!

Relieved Save Your Tears is gone. Pretty good top 4 all in all. Would love Faded to win, failing that Physical.
Wonder if The Idol has soured some fans on The Weeknd. It definitely has for me. I also did not realise that was his only UK #1!

I wondered the same, his music of the last few years has still been really good, but the laughable performance and attitude has made me a bit more reluctant to delive into what I've missed and think he's getting a bit too big for his boots x

Still love Blinding Lights, but pleased to see a new winner as it would've got a bit stale. I think I need to listen to Escapism again as I do recall liking this, but not quite 6th best of the decade level! Thoroughly excellent top 4, I think all of them made my votes.

I get nervous every time you post incase it’s Physical.

Faded is good but doesn’t feel like it’s aged as well as this chart run would suggest to me personally. Not really a Billie fan. Would be happy for Miley though! Just definitely rooting for Dua, as my favourite song of the 2020s for sure.

The whole Top 10 has been brilliant and it’s a sublime Top 4. Faded is utterly euphoric but feel like one of the girlies will win. Probably will be Dua or Miley, but Everything I Wanted is my top choice - gets better with every year that passes.
I don't get the love for 'Faded' I'm afraid but really like all of the other three left in contention! Rooting for Dua the most.

 4 11 471 Billie Eilish - Everything I Wanted

52-07-11-04-

1st, 2019

Taking a big climb into the top 10 this year we have Billie Eilish - the song has consistently been her most popular on the forum ever since the first year it became eligible. It shot up into the top 10 on its second year but just missed out last time around. Now it ties for points with 'Save Your Tears' however it managed 20 voters - 9 of those in the voter's top ten. It is the biggest song of 2019 by some way, finishing 24 places ahead of 'Don't Start Now' this time. The song was released to bridge the gap between album cycles for Billie however it wasn't just a throwaway single but instead became one of her biggest and best hits. It was produced and co-written by her brother Finneas with lyrics referencing his support for her going through depression.

Oh damn was rooting for Billie for the win but still delightful that's she's got that deservedly high with such a stunning composition.

Midnight Sky to win for me now but would be happy with Dua. Faded feels a little out of place to be as high up as top 3 to me oop.

 3 2 472 Dua Lipa – Physical

02-02-03-

2nd, 2020

Taking a small hit this year we have 'Physical' - having spent the last two years at #2 behind 'Blinding Lights', Dua Lipa now slides a place to third position. She was rather lucky to keep 2nd place last year however as she finished 3 points ahead of 'Midnight Sky', which now overtakes this year. It is also incredibly close this year with this only one point ahead of 'Everything I Wanted' and 'Save Your Tears'. She received 23 votes, the joint-most of any song in the contest, with six of these ranked in the voter's top 10. In the yearly round, she also slipped to #2 behind Miley Cyrus so it's perhaps not a big surprise that she overtakes this year. 'Physical' was of course released as part of the 'Future Nostalgia' album, and with her follow-up due next year perhaps it is still not too late for this to be a future RotD winner if the new material gives her back cat a boost. The song was inspired by 80s synthpop specifically from the soundtrack of 'Flashdance' and the Olivia Newton-John hit of the same name. I actually prefer the other 'Future Nostalgia' singles that appear in the countdown but this has clearly always been the big favourite on Buzzjack.

Tomorrow the winner is revealed... Alan Walker vs. Miley Cyrus.

Realistically, Miley should've won at this point since they came from both Miley and Edge of Seventeen fans. So, I'd be completely surprised if Alan x Iselin win it.
I think Faded has done very well... but then I think that every year... must be a title my eyes automatically pick out when I'm scanning everyone's votes!
