In contrast to the above posters, most of the songs I like (with the very notable exception of Wolf Alice) seem to be moving in the right direction. Great jumps for Shum and Mirrors, shame it's the last year for Mirrors, it could have sneaked top 10 if it had kept up the momentum!

 15 34 348 Taylor Swift - Wildest Dreams

It's been a great year for Taylor Swift as two of her songs climb into the top 20 this year, starting out with her best-regarded hit from the "1989" album. With the re-release coming next week it could propell the song into next year's top ten although Taylor put out the new version of this song 2 years ago already which likely helped it last year to rebound so much. The song only managed 14 voters however it ranked very highly with many here including it being a fan favourite of the big Taylor supporters. It also rounds out the year 2015 as that year's biggest hit here.

Having been the third-highest new entry of last year, as Wolf Alice faced a bit of a slump this year this now ends as the 2nd-biggest title of 2021. Given a little boost this year with the help of her recent #1 hit "What Was I Made For?" perhaps. The song instantly became popular with the indie fans here for being fairly unique for a Billie Eilish hit although I'm still not particularly fond of it myself.

Having sunk outside the top 20 last year Lorde has a rebound now with "Green Light" which is once again the top track of 2017. Lorde herself has been completely inactive this year but I guess more time away from her most recent album can only help as that was considered a disappointment by many fans. It is the first of 7 songs to receive 20+ votes however many of these were small points so it has to settle for outside the top 10 still.

2020 remains Buzzjack's favourite year with 8 of its titles landing in the top 40 and with three yet to appear in the top 10. Climbing up to almost join them we have "Exile" which ends up this year as Taylor Swift's biggest hit. Starting out modestly a couple of years back it has gained steadily ever since so could certainly contend again next year. It was a rare proper duet for her in recent years but that proved to work with the Buzzjack audience and certainly is a standout of her more recent material.

Continuing its lengthy ascent we have "Habits" which now finishes 2 points away from a top 10 position. The song captured a wide audience here with 22 voters, only surpassed by two other titles yet to come. It became the big breakthrough hit for Swedish popstar Tove Lo who still keeps a bit of a cult following here although none of her other songs have got so much love as this. It's been great to see this continuing to improve year-on-year anyhow.

Top 10 A–Z:

Alan Walker – Faded

Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know?

Ariana Grande - No Tears Left To Cry

Billie Eilish - Everything I Wanted

Dua Lipa – Physical

Katy B - Crying For No Reason

Miley Cyrus - Midnight Sky

RAYE (feat. 070 Shake) - Escapism.

Weeknd - Blinding Lights

Weeknd - Save Your Tears (Original / Ariana Grande Remix)

Great to see 'Mirrors' end on a high and 'Happier Than ever' to reach a new peak!

Great for 'Escapism.' also going straight into the top 10 in its first year :cheer:

I do really like Green Light and I love Tove Lo but I don't really listen to Stay High in particular. Other than that, I don't really have strong feelings about any of those, so I guess that summarises my feelings on the results as a whole so far

Not a bad top 10 though on the whole - definitely rooting for Physical, but expecting it to fall to like #8 if it follows the trend of a lot of the big pop tracks in this final.

 10 09 402 Ariana Grande - No Tears Left To Cry

Kicking off the top 10 is ‘No Tears Left To Cry’ which dips a place this year to hit its second lowest ranking in ROTD. When the song was first released and Ariana was dominating the charts, I think this seemed a cert for being a ROTD winner at some point, however it never quite made it. It debuted in 3rd place before taking a series of drops to hit a low in 2021 when it fell to 16th place, it rose last year and this year remains low top 10. ‘No Tears Left To Cry’ was the lead single from Ariana’s ‘Sweetener’ album which I think was expected to be a lock for Number 1, however it peaked at Number 2 but became a firm Buzzjack favourite. It’s a great pop song and was the first song released from Ariana post the Manchester Arena bombing. ‘No Tears Left To Cry’ is the highest placed Ariana Grade song and the highest ranked song of 2018. In the final vote the song received 16 votes in total, which is the lowest of all the remaining songs in the top 10 and finishes 20pts behind the song in 9th place.

Love to see 'exile' & 'Wildest Dreams' with big climbs to new peaks here. 'Green Light' is a bop and still my fave of hers.

Unsurprising but impressive for RAYE to already be top 10!

Up next ‘Do I Wanna Know?’ climbs a place to finish its ROTD in 9th place. The song has made the final every year, barring 1 when it placed at 103rd, however it was really until 2017 when the song started to make big waves on ROTD. It climbed to 18 that year before climbing again in 2019 to hit 11th place before peaking at 8 the following year. Since then it has always polled low top 10 and finishes its run there. ‘Do I Wanna Know?’ was taken from the Arctic Money’s ‘AM’ album and peaked at Number 11 on the charts and for a second year running it’s the only non-UK top 10 hit in this top 10. The song topped the 2013 vote and is the highest ranked song from 2013 in the final. In total ‘Do I Wanna Know?’ gained 18 votes, which is 1 more than 2 songs still to come, however it only had 6 top 10 rankings and quite a few low-end votes. It’ll be interesting to see if any more Arctic Monkeys hits will ever make the ROTD final again, they’ve had a number of releases since ‘AM’ however nothing has really made any headway.

Is this Everything I Wanted's first top 10 or does it normally get so high?

It got as high as 7th place a couple of years ago, last year it polled at 11 place.

:left: 8 8 424 Katy B - Crying For No Reason

The bottom end of the ROTD final remains the same 3 songs (albeit in a slightly different order) as ‘Crying For No Reason’ is a non-mover at 8. ‘Crying For No Reason’ has always managed to make it through to the finals and has now notched up 3 years in the top 10, It dropped to a low at 40 in 2018, however since then has been within the top 15. In the final round this year the song gained the same number of points as ‘Do I Wanna Know?’ however had more voters which broke the tie. In total the song gained 20 votes and finishes 17pt behind the song at Number 6. ‘Crying For No Reason’ was the second song to be lifted from Katy B’s second album ‘Little Red’. The song peaked officially at 5, however has had consistent support in ROTD since it was eligible. It’s a great song, with a good build up and an amazing vocal from Katy too. The song remains the sole Katy B entrant in the final and it seems unlikely after next year that she’ll grace the finals of ROTD again given her output since ‘Little Red’ hasn’t really taken off, but I guess we shall see.

 7 1 441 The Weeknd - Blinding Lights

01-01-07-

3rd, 2020

So it is all change at the top this year as ‘Blinding Lights’ drops 6 places this year to hit 7th place. ‘Blinding Lights’ debuted at Number on ROTD in 2021, it then replicated that success last year by leading the pack to a second win, however this year its support waned in the final round. The Weeknd put this out as the joint-lead single to 'After Hours' and before too long it became his first UK #1 and solidified itself as one of the biggest songs of the last few years. Funnily ‘Blinding Lights’ has never won its 2020 heat and had trailed both ‘Midnight Sky’ and ‘Physical’ but come the final round, ‘Blinding Lights’ manages to get ahead, however this year the song gained just 19 votes (5 less than last year) and quite a number of the votes it did receive were bottom 10 placements. I know I knocked it down a fair bit in my own vote as although I love the song, I did want a different winner. Not only does ‘Blinding Lights’ drop from the top spot, but it is also no longer the highest ranked song by The Weeknd as ‘Save Your Tears’ is now in front of it. ‘Blinding Lights finishes 13pts behind the song at 6th place and finishes 91pts behind 1st place. With both previous winners still eligible to take place in ROTD now out of the running, it means ROTD will definitely have a new winner this year…

Catching up on a fair bit here...

Glad to see Happier Than Ever climb, it'll always be near the top end of my vote and hope it reaches the Top 10 soon. I like the stability of the bottom part of the Top 10, gets a bit confusing if there's too much inconsistecy year on year! But having said that, excited for a new winner. Blinding Lights has never made my votes at all, whereas several still to come did get votes from me (Physical and Faded were towards the top so I hope one of them wins overall). The only negative of the Blinding Lights drop is that I think Save Your Tears is grossly overrated so am disappointed to see it so high, and now the Weeknd's top song.

My favourites of what was left starting to tumble a bit now, glad AM remained in the top 10 for their final year.

Save Your Tears over Blinding Lights is…. A choice

Good to know there’s a new winner though.

Blinding Lights falling down is something I like to see, I have always found it so overrated oop.

Hoping for a Midnight Sky or Escapism win.

Ooooh that makes things super exciting! Guaranteed new number one then?

Praying it’s Physical after being stuck behind Blinding Lights for the last two years.
