BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2023 week 42 and auto-qualifying for the October monthly round is Troye Sivan - One Of Your Girls.

BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2023 week 43 and auto-qualifying for the October monthly round is Charli XCX and Sam Smith - In The City.

It's an expected easy W in week 42 for South African born Australian Troye Sivan's third top 40 hit of the year which impacted the top 20 when released as part of his third studio album 'Something To Give Each Other', making it 2 out of 3 poll wins for him after 'Rush' also won its week but 'Got Me Started' fell slightly short. 'One Of Your Girls' got the support of a bit over 6 in 10 voters and had more than double the votes of its closest competition. Although he was nowhere close to winning, a full 13 votes behind, it is an admirable result for Drake in second place (with a little help from Sexyy Red and SZA), this track being only 1 vote short of the combined total of all 3 of his new entries from the previous week. One vote behind in joint third place, Fred again..'s latest hit and a belatedly charting Olivia Rodrigo album track also break double figures. Week 43 was a closer call but ultimately won by British pair (and both Barbie The Album contributors) Charli XCX and Sam Smith with their collab (not sure if it's leading into a new Charli album or not) that just barely missed the top 40. It's Charli's first poll win and Sam's second after their contribution to Calvin Harris' 'Desire'. It picked up votes from a little under half of participants and won by only 2 votes, just beating out Jax Jones, D.O.D and Ina Wroldsen's contribution to the trance revival (which also ended up being a much needed donk revival in a later week with the Blackout Crew remix, ikonik). Jess Glynne's return (just about) to the chart was the only other song to reach double figures, a further 5 votes behind in 3rd.

Someone stepped in in both polls to avoid adding a third member to the 0 votes club, as last place in both picked up only 1 vote each - in week 42, Offset has both of the bottom 2 though the Travis Scott collab at least attracted one more vote than the Don Toliver one (deserved better tbh x) and the 2 African hits of the week both also fell just short of the 5 vote threshold, while in week 43 someone felt compelled to save Chris Brown from nil points while the only other song to fall short of 5 votes was A1 X J1 and Aitch (although my votes saved two more songs from also falling short, incidentally those two being my two favourites on the list).

On schedule once again oh my ~ first two charts of November up next (rather than the first three as I originally planned), week 44 having 9 songs totalling 28 minutes and 23 seconds and week 45 having 8 songs totalling 25 minutes and 34 seconds. Both polls contain a song that's at least a decade old. The poor Beatles probably would have had a much better chance of winning a poll if they hadn't charted a week early. As it were, they may have to contend for just hoping not to finish in 4th behind 3 Taylor songs.

Aside: Taylor having the power that NLE Choppa didn't have, to force the word 'slut' to be removed from the BuzzJack swear filter so it can appear in the poll properly. Hooray!

Vote for as many or as few songs as you want and would be ideal if you can make sure you've heard all the songs before voting if possible!

Shall aim again for a Monday night deadline :jump:

I will get the October monthly round up soon as well. Although I'll probably go sleep a bit first.

And here are the results from the September monthly round... (with thanks to the 21 people that voted in that :magic:)

Unfortunately it is the end of the road for these:

10 92 Kylie Minogue - Hold On To Now

9 97 Måneskin - HONEY (ARE U COMING?)

8 102 Selena Gomez - Single Soon

7 107 Troye Sivan - Got Me Started

6 108 Leigh-Anne - My Love (feat. Ayra Starr)

5 127 Kylie Minogue - Tension

Still in with a chance of making the final for the year is...

4 129 Chase And Status and Hedex - Liquor & Cigarettes (feat. ArrDee)

Which means our next 3 guaranteed spots in the yearly round go to Kenya Grace, Olivia Rodrigo and Tate McRae :cheer: Tate takes the W overall with a 13 point lead over Kenya and Olivia a further 4 points behind. They were a pretty clear top 3 as 4th place was another 16 points back, and not really any surprises there apart from maybe the fact that Kylie is absent - and in fact she doesn't get the playoff position either, as 'Tension' narrowly loses out by 2 points to Chase And Status and friends whose song continues to prove surprisingly popular and gives C&S a shot at another song in the yearly round having already booked a spot with 'Baddadan'. Olivia has gone 3 for 3 with direct qualifiers after 'vampire' and 'bad idea right?' also got straight through. Kylie's other song here finishes in last place, the brigade not materialising again here x

3 145 Olivia Rodrigo - get him back!

2 149 Kenya Grace - Strangers

1 162 Tate McRae - greedy

I went for NTWDT, This Is Halloween (classic) + Now & Then for week 44.

Just Jung Kook week 45.

Edited by GTH

Week 44: just The Beatles. There were better Elley Duhé songs out around this time than that months-old viral one.

Week 45: just Olivia. I liked the chorus and bassline of the Childish Gambino one, less keen on the verses.

Week 44: Taylor X2 (Is It Over Now & Now That We Don't Talk)

Week 45: Megan Thee Stallion & Olivia Rodrigo

Week 44

Taylor Swift - Is It Over Now? (#1) - boring

Taylor Swift - Now That We Don't Talk (#2) - boring but at least it's over quickly

Taylor Swift - "Slut!" (#5) - this one's actually interesting but a bit too mellow for my liking, kudos for getting the chart people to say slut on pre-watershed radio though the pottymouths!

The Citizens Of Halloween - This Is Halloween (#14) - i usually like novelty but this one doesn't hit the spot

The Beatles - Now And Then (#42) - still can't work out if i like this or not but on this listen it's sounding good so i'll throw it a vote

Elley Duhé and Whethan - MONEY ON THE DASH (#73) - she is such a consistent deliverer, yet can never seem to get that big breakthru hit

Nathan Dawe and Bebe Rexha - Heart Still Beating (#74) - there's space for you Mr Dawe next to Mr Jones on the trance bandwagon, hop aboard

Chase And Status - Say The Word (feat. Clementine Douglas) (#78) - ugh i had high expectations for this but the production is super annoying :/

Unknown T - Adolescence (feat. Digga D) (#90) - nice minimalist beat to this, reminds me of Jay1

Voted Beatles, Elley, Nathan & Unknown.

Week 45

Jung Kook - Standing Next To You (#6) - this is groovy! by far his best top 10 hit

Olivia Rodrigo - Can't Catch Me Now (#18) - for an O-Rod ballad this isn't half bad, it's not great either tho

The Kid LAROI - BLEED (#41) - glad this missed the top 40, a proper snoozefest!

Megan Thee Stallion - Cobra (#83) - nothing to see here, next

Dylan Gossett - Coal (#93) - more nondescript faux-country tripe

Teddy Swims - Lose Control (#95) - oh now this is a nice one! it's like rag n bone man meets maverick sabre but singing over a paloma faith song

Childish Gambino - Heartbeat (#97) - seems like forever since we've heard from this guy, where'd ya go donald? nice track here mind, very madeon!

Lil Mabu and chriseanrock - MR. TAKE YA BITCH (#99) - *flashbacks to Trey Songz* yeah i could vibe to this

Voted Jung, Teddy, Donald & Mabu.

Went for The Beatles (wow at their lead!!) Chase & Status & The Citizens of Halloween in the first poll and Chiodish Gambino in the 2nd one!

Week 44

1. Taylor Swift - Now That We Don't Talk

2. Taylor Swift - "Slut!"

3. Taylor Swift - Is It Over Now?

4. Unknown T - Adolescence (feat. Digga D)

5. The Beatles - Now And Then

6. Danny Elfman - This Is Halloween

7. Chase And Status - Say The Word (feat. Clementine Douglas)

8. Nathan Dawe and Bebe Rexha - Heart Still Beating

9. Elley Duhé and Whethan - MONEY ON THE DASH

Just voting for Taylor's 3 this week. 'Now That We Don't Talk' is definitely the highlight of the 3 for me.

'Adolescent' is meh. Not Digga's best feature. 'Now And Then' certainly sounds like a Beatles song! I've never really got into 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' so 'This Is Halloween' does nothing for me.

The dance tracks are too generic to separate. The drop in 'Say The Word' is a lot less annoying than in 'Liquor & Cigarettes'

Week 45

1. Childish Gambino - Heartbeat

2. Olivia Rodrigo - Can't Catch Me Now

3. Megan Thee Stallion - Cobra

4. Teddy Swims - Lose Control

5. Dylan Gossett - Coal

6. Jung Kook - Standing Next To You

7. The Kid LAROI - BLEED

8. Lil Mabu and chriseanrock - MR. TAKE YA BITCH

Voting for the top 2 this week. I'm loving the delayed appearance for Gambino. 'Catch Catch Me Now' isn't as great as the singles from 'Guts' but still pretty good.

'Cobra' is ok. I find it funny that she does her ‘serious’ songs with the same flow and adblibs that she uses in her ‘sexy’ songs.

'Coal' and 'Lose Control' have some nice instrumental/productions but they're not my sort of thing.

'Standing Next To You' is ok but sounds really out-of-date and 'BLEED' is a real snoozefest.

After hearing 'MR. TAKE YA BITCH', I know have newfound respect for Blueface.

Sorry about 24 hours later than planned but new poll coming up momentarily, almost caught up :magic:

My rankings for these polls:

Week 44

1 'Is It Over Now?' 9/10

2 'Now And Then' 8/10

3 '"Slut!"' 8/10

4 'This Is Halloween' ikonek/10

5 'Now That We Don't Talk' 6.5/10

6 'MONEY ON THE DASH' 6/10

7 'Adolescence' 5/10

8 'Heart Still Beating' 5/10

9 'Say The Word' 4/10

Voted for the top 4. Very glad that 'Is It Over Now?' was the one from the 1989 vault tracks to hit #1 as it easily stands out the most for me, gives me kind of similar vibes to 'Blank Space' although a bit more lowkey. '"Slut!"' is pretty lovely sounding too and 'Now That We Don't Talk' is fine enough but doesn't really stick with me much, sounds very much like an album track (and sounds more 'Midnights' than '1989' really). The Beatles track is definitely not up there with their all time classics but still very happy it exists and was such a success. 'This Is Halloween' has the honour of being the first song that I've actually voted for despite not really knowing what score to assign to it, it's such an oddity especially with it entering as high as #14 due to chart rule shenanigans (although I guess it would have been debuting this week either way) but it's good fun x I'd forgotten that I already heard the Elley Duhé song when it first came out, it's a decent enough slap house track but nothing too memorable. Then we just have some unremarkable UK rap, some unremarkable trance and disappointingly have to give worst of the week to C&S, I've been loving their chart renaissance but a shame that so far 'Baddadan' is the only one of their chart hits of the year that I'm actually wanting to go back to (although spoiler: 'Selecta' is a banger too), the drop on 'Say The Word' just sounds kind of wonky and offputting and the rest of the song is just pretty standard DnB fare.

Week 45

1 'Can't Catch Me Now' 10/10

2 'Coal' 9/10

3 'Heartbeat' 9/10

4 'Cobra' 9/10

5 'BLEED' 8.5/10

6 'Lose Control' 6.5/10

7 'Standing Next To You' 5/10

8 'MR. TAKE YA BITCH' please stop embarrassing yourself/10

Voted for the top 5, with the one obvious exception this was a really good week especially for ballads - really quite blown away by 'Can't Catch Me Now' on first listen so another rare 10/10 here and this time for a song I hadn't already heard a bunch, love the progression from the more low key 'folklore' esque sound to the massive jawdrop moment of the bridge and then bringing it back for the outro, just such a pretty and well constructed song, I dare say it might already be a strong contender for my favourite song she's ever put out. 'Coal' charting here before it has in the US (and it's still yet to debut there...) is quite strange but I guess it's probably just down to country radio still being slow to adapt to the Zach Bryan-ification of the genre, I am again totally here for it though as this is another really beautiful track and the titular lyric in particular feels very poignant. Even The Kid LAROI has come through with a really good Post Malone-y ballad here, I've actually rather liked all of the chart hits off LAROI's album but this is by far the best of them, shame it narrowly missed the top 40. Obviously not a ballad but also greatly appreciating that we have such a substantive song from Megan Thee Stallion actually charting considering she's struggled to chart here beyond collaborations and viral bangers, this is instantly one of the best I've heard from her with some heartbreaking lyrics (hope she is doing ok...) and an excellent instrumental, I thought this having a remix from Spiritbox of all people seemed really random but I get it now I've actually heard the song. Early Childish Gambino gets a lot of flack for being corny and I do get it but 'Heartbeat' finally being a chart hit is still a pretty great moment, really nostalgic song for me which it's cool to hear again, kind of dated sounding in a way but then tbh the chorus doesn't sound a mile away from the sound of 'After Hours' era The Weeknd. 'Lose Control' is the least compelling of the ballads here for me but still a decent one, Teddy has a good soulful voice. I've seen a lot of people saying 'Standing Next To You' is the best of the recent Jung Kook solo hits and I can kind of see why but it's actually my least favourite of them, it's very boringly competent at the sound it's going for but it's just kind of in one ear out the other for me, very bargain basement MJ knockoff. Not dignifying the other thing here.
