Cher has cracked the Top 20! :w00t:

I just hope she can hold on. #21 would be so cruel. :(

But a darn sight better than the #41 peak that some anticipated after Friday's chart

I am so here for Wham being #1 every Christmas, George Michael at Number 1 is always welcome.

Wish it would give December Song a go some year!

Do we think if/once WHAM! get that elusive "Christmas Number 1" tag, it'll start to not be as big a hitter at Christmas anymore? Ignoring next year (and what they do for the 40th anniversary etc..) do we think it'll go a similar way to where The Pogues are now (a Christmas staple but not *quite* to the levels it has been before)? Coz to me it does feel like a lot of WHAM!'s campaigns have been for it to get Christmas Number 1... in a way that once it manages it, I can't help but feel people may move on to something else?

(Obvz not saying it will happen - just curious to read what others think)

I don't know, but I was thinking maybe The Pogues might maintain (some of) their improved performance this year in future years since that's what seemed to happen to Last Christmas after George Michael passed away. It got a big boost when it happened, but it's like that boost has stayed with it (or even grown) ever since.

Agreed and the only way Wham will decrease is if the playlisting changes or people grow tired of it. Mariah is similarly high on playlists but has dropped behind Wham and Brenda (on Xmas eve/day) over the past few years.

the other thing is it’s a lot easier to sell the Wham song to an American audience than The Pogues so naturally Wham get much better Spotify listing

Omg Cher climbing in both singles and album chart we love to see it!! Hope she can hold on and get a top 5 album and top 20 single this week!

Honestly it’s been such a great year see Kylie, Madonna and Cher smashing it!

Cher on course for a top 5 album and top 20 single, cmon please do it !

I think Cher will have a really good week next week too so both could still get higher peaks :cheer:

Great news for Wham! I can't and don't wanna see Sam Ryder #01.
If Santa Tell Me is not top 10 this year then it may never will, I can see a rule change in the coming years to deal with the annual Christmas song deluge.

Brenda Lee for Christmas number 1 next year.

 I honestly think she deserves everything. Cher to knock Wham and Stones off top spot!!!

True although kind of ironic on that the Pogues song is explicitly about the USA (well their biggest city) :magic:

I would rather Sam Ryder be no1. Wham is an ageing overhyped Christmas song.
