January 29, 20241 yr Author Of all the compilations done so far, this is the one I am most looking forward to.
January 29, 20241 yr 'Podium music' just makes me think of Vangelis - Chariots Of Fire. I am guessing Podium means one that everyone can recommend songs to and we vote for what gets on the album. Edited January 29, 20241 yr by TheSnake
January 31, 20241 yr That would be fantastic, loads of great songs! Fingers crossed for MRD and Orbital on the same disc.
January 31, 20241 yr So here it is, a few of you have guessed correctly - it's all of the songs that reached the top three in song contests hosted on BuzzJack last year. We've drawn from BJSC and its spin-offs, Club Bizarre, the Pop Forum Song Contest, The Best Song Contest In The World...Ever! Vol. 5, Unknown Pleasures and Nuggets to bring you this eclectic 72 song collection. Just three songs couldn't be sourced on Spotify, but everything else is here. The first disc kicks off and closes with some of the big BJSC dance winners of last year, fronted of course by Kath's Magic by Geo22. Kath was of course extremely dominant in 2023 and has the most entries on this compilation. The disc takes a tour through various dance entries and closes with the unforgettable Headache and Nabihah Iqbal from BJSC. BuzzJack pop is the name of the game on the first half of Disc 2, starting with a big BJSC winner from Jai Wolf and Banks, before taking a more rocky and world music turn to finish. Disc 3 largely consists of the harder edged dark dance, and techno, while Disc 4 is the home of remixes, 90s songs, 70s rock and Christmas. Enjoy the compilation, and the extra incentive to finish top three in a BuzzJack competition in 2024 - get your song onto this next year!
January 31, 20241 yr Author This is an outstanding collection and a document of the 2023 contests on BuzzJack which were so enthusiastically enjoyed by so many of us. Amazing idea, and work, gd. Edited January 31, 20241 yr by Colm
February 1, 20241 yr omg I really brought my A game with retro's last year, haven't I? Only Love Can Break Your Heart, Papua New Guinea and Ederlezi :cheeseblock: Amazing job y'all for doing this  Edited February 1, 20241 yr by Addy!
February 1, 20241 yr When your only song contest medal last year was a song that’s geoblocked on Spotify so you have to rely on someone else’s success to get recognition (yay Baby Storme!) :’) This is definitely a good shoutout playlist though!
February 1, 20241 yr For the record, Mr Ray's Wig World – Faster Kittykat Play Play, The Planets - Contradanza [Almighty Radio Edit], and Nekomata Master - Symmetry were the missing songs on Spotify. So what does this compilation tell us about succeeding on BuzzJack contests in 2023? Pop success was dwindling; techno, dark dance and rave were thriving; long songs and more folky/world music was doing pretty well, and 96% of podium finishers were available on Spotify. So if you submit something that isn't, does that harm your chances? Who knows, but it's not impossible to succeed, as seen by the three songs that had to be left out.
February 5, 20241 yr Author Today it is our pleasure to publish BuzzJack presents... Rave. Rave is a genre of dance music which evolved from acid house back in the early 1990s. It became characterised by its use of harsher synth sounds, accelerated vocals, break beats, and pianos. It often incorporated sirens, voice over introductions and crowd noise evoking the heightened atmosphere of the warehouses where early illicit raves were held. It exploded into the charts in 1991 and peaked in 1992. Disc 1 features the commercial hits from the era while disc 2 takes us through the harder material. Disc 3 showcases a plethora of euphoric piano rave before finishing with more downtempo tracks. Alas, our compilation isn’t perfect. There were many essential tracks not available on Spotify. We’d have included the following if they had been available. The Source featuring Candy Staton - You Got the Love - the New Voyager mix is available but doesn't have the right aesthetic. Bizarre Inc - Such A Feeling Messiah - Temple of Dreams Bassheads - Is The Anybody Out There? DJ PC – Inssomniak Three tracks weren’t available in their original form but we included remixed versions because they remained true to the original and are recognisably the same song with updated production values. These are Bizarre Inc - Playing With Knives Blue Pearl - Can You Feel the Passion? Dream Frequency - Feel So Real Edited February 29, 20241 yr by Colm
February 5, 20241 yr Great job Colm, this is one I'll play a lot. My favourite song ever is Rave and there are a lot of huge classics and more underground gems on here.
February 5, 20241 yr Chuckling @ the podium one. You really said "let's just shove all Rob's pop shit together, it all sounds the same" xx Actually a really good idea and pacing of entries though, in all seriousness, good work! Definitely highlights the trend curving towards dancier leaning entries succeeding in BJSC anyway.

February 6, 20241 yr Excellent work Colm. I love how the extra disc has given you more room to include some smaller overlooked classic Rave hits that were missing from Now! That's What I Call Rave. In particular pleased to see Urban Shakedown and Congress make the cut. *.* Also- a random aside, but weird how the video for “Go” by Moby (1991, end of the Cold War - fall of the U.S.S.R.) and “My Girls” by Animal Collective (2009 - Great Financial Crisis - fall of global capitalism) look similar, bookending as they did the 'second Belle Époque' of 1991-2009.
