A few queries on Christmas songs further down the charts.

I note John Williams is credited on the charts for "Carol of the bells" but on daily Spotify it is Mykola Dmytrovych Leontovych. Any reason for the discrepancy?

Has Vince Guaraldi Trio and the Charlie Brown Christmas song ever charted top 100 singles before?

And would Hallelujah bring US acapella band Pentatonix a possible first ever UK top 100 hit? I personally like "Mary did you know" from them.

Leontovych is the original composer of the carol from 1914, the popular version is John Williams' take on it but classical pieces often do include the original composer in their tags on streaming services.

Neither Vince Guaraldi Trio or Pentatonix have ever made the singles chart top 100! (2 of the Vince Guaraldi Trio songs - 'Christmas Time Is Here' and 'Linus And Lucy' - have charted in the low top 50 on the US Hot 100 in recent years though).

Thanks for the informative reply. Surely both have a chance this week and would be good to see. I wonder if Gayla Peevy with the marmite "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas" can get there in next few years too.

For reference last year Escapism was #27 on Wednesday and #13 by Friday. With a similar rise Stick Season could be pushing top 10. However, Wednesday's update this year will be missing some Boxing Day streams while last year's Weds update would have been missing virtually nothing for the Xmas songs. So it's probably a long shot. Hope I'm wrong though, would be nice to see a long unbroken top 10 run for him even if it'll be #1 next week regardless.

Why does BBC radio 1 make an update program so early in the week when results can easily change during the week?

I've genuinely wondered, what with the charts not really meaning much to people (apart from us stans) if there even is a market for a chart update style show on Radio 1 but guess there must be if they keep playing it. I personally don't even listen fo it, especially since we have Buzzjack and the presenters are always described as really annoying!

I suppose to begin with it was in order to compete with the commercial charts on at the same time. They probably found that they were losing a certain number of listeners who were just used to listening to the charts on a Sunday. I think it’s always been true that a lot of people aren’t too bothered whether the chart itself is official, hence the once huge figures for the Network Chart.

They could probably lose it now but if they get the info cheaply from OCC they probably think they might as well stick with it. I don’t think they would get higher ratings doing something different.

Realistically how much will the post Xmas collapse of Xmas song streams affect this weeks chart?

Probably very minimal especially at the top 20, the timing just means they’ll be all completely gone by next week

Absolutely nothing. They had major streaming says on Xmas Eve and day getting millions of streams so that has sales pretty much locked in. It won’t impact this week much. They’ll all be starred out next week tho

Have any Elvis songs made the Top 40 since chart histories were included in the Buzzjack chart show threads?

Kinda hope 'Blue Christmas' doesn't hold on and saves Joseph some time compiling that one post (unless he's already got it prepped, in which case I hope it does!)

I overprepped one week a few years back so I actually already have Elvis' chart history!!! I'm still recovering from typing it up x
Can’t be worse than Drake?

THIS!!! I know people who thought the capital fm big top 40 was the official chart!

I love arguing with people that the Network chart is made up crap!
I think that Ariana run of missing the top 10 might continue with Noah pushing her out 😂we shall see
