Everything else aside can we please stop with this claim that Ariana is '#1 on every playlist ever'. Yes, it's #1 on Hot Hits UK and Today's Top Hits, and those are the two main ones, but you can just say that without the needless exaggeration. I am genuinely struggling to find a single other Spotify curated playlist where it is at #1 (aside from This Is Ariana Grande lol, and I suppose New Music Friday for all its 1 day of relevance) - the obvious next one to check was The Pop List, and it's #2 there behind 'Houdini'. Notably it doesn't seem to be included at all on any of their dance playlists despite the fact it would fit those perfectly fine.

Anyway... not a bad second day for her, still comfortably ahead of Jack Harlow. Still a higher second day total than 'positions' had as well, although a bigger percentage decrease tbf (down 27.7% on day 2 compared to 'positions' dropping 15.9%). Wow at Sophie now breaking 600k! I'd love it if I did write off her chances of hitting #1 too early, still not holding my breath but she has closed the gap to Noah by a fairly impressive amount in just 1 day there, just not sure how long she's still going to continue to increase (I think Kate Bush had started plateauing by around this point into her chart revival?)

Pretty decent holds for 21 Savage's album tracks with his (new) top song even climbing a place, still 7 tracks in the top 100 and 13/15 in the top 200 (the ones dropping out being the 1 minute intro track and the closing track which was already a fair way behind the rest yesterday). Meanwhile D-Block Europe are down to only having 1 song from the new album in the top 200 already, with 'Overseas' now taking over again as their 2nd highest song lol (well, 3rd highest including 'Prada').

The Ella song is indeed following a pretty normal pattern for new dance hits, if it's bound to be a big hit it will catch on on Spotify within a few weeks but they nearly always do much better earlier on Apple.

And for those who can’t see the full Amazon Chart, it’s currently:

1 Sophie EB

2 Noah Kahan &16, 30

3 Jack Harlow &31

4 Taylor, Cruel Summer

5 Eliza & Calvin

6 Teddy Swims

7 Olivia, Vampire

8 Ariana Grande

Any other song and Sophie would get #1 but this Noah song has a unique ability not to get tiresome no matter how many times I’ve heard it so I can’t see her overtaking but she’ll be a solid 2 and looking at iTunes she appears to have 4 versions in the top 100
This is classic moving the goal posts. Before Houdini dropped there was loads of talk it would debut at number 1. Wasn't anything doing any big numbers and she had two physicals. Then it would climb and be a long standing hit and go to number 1 post Christmas, then it would be loads of weeks top 10. Now it is 'well it peaked at #2 and is still charting'.

It is easy to see expectations were high and rightly so. It has had the airplay, playlisting, physicals. It just hasn't caught on like people thought it would. That is life, it has under performed it isn't bad to admit that.

I think if you read my post again you'll see I said "it hasn't been the gigantic smash I expected"

Also if you can find a post where I claimed it would climb to #1 after Christmas I'll give you a medal.

Sophie really deserves that #1, I hope she can keep growing
Hope Sophie gets the no.q!!!! Ariana might be able to get a week or two when the album drops, so they can share it
I'll look forward to the ever-bright continual optimism towards Ed or Drake's next lead single. There will be no slamming of them should they miss the top spot right?

Amazing that on here of all places, where female popstars get a much easier pass, you want to try and make this arguement about Dua or Ariana.

Houdini had it been by certain other artists would be dragged through the mud. Lead single, getting ridiculous radio play, 3 physicals, big playlisting, coming from a massive artist and limping through a chart run.

This forum has been very kind on Houdini. Ariana remains to be seen how it does.

I would personally like to say, from my own point of view and I don’t think this applies for everyone, I find the negativity of this site and social media in general, really tiring. That applies to Ed and Drake. I guess I just feel more passionately towards calling it out when it’s towards my favourite artists I guess.

I think there’s a tendency in life now to wait for people to fall, as I’ve said previously. As if people were waiting to see where Ariana charted to see whether it lived up to their imagination, rather than celebrating that it literally reached the highest position it can. As soon as she charted #1, the goalposts moved to a negative mindset of “well, can she keep it?” rather than “good for her”. That’s how I’ve felt about Houdini - to almost any artist in the world, a #2 peak and a long lasting top 10 would be viewed as a success. It’s only being spoken about in a negative light because people have this tendency to want to discuss people’s pitfalls rather than their peak.

When Little Mix were smashing, it was “well they’re not as big as x girl band” or “it won’t last, they’ll break up soon”. When it’s Ed Sheeran, still doing great numbers, it’s “well, it’s nothing compared to the last album”. There’s a real glaring obsession with honing in on negatives rather than going into situations with a positive outlook, which dominates this site or this sub forum imo.

I personally like to celebrate the music I like doing well when I come into this thread, I wish more people did the same, as much as discussion is welcome, because it brings such a negative cloud on everything.

insane that Noah can do 660K on a Sunday, which is the slowest day of the week

525K for Sophie on a Sunday is also huge and even Ariana's figure is good for a Sunday

Unwritten at #18 today yay!!

21 Savage - Redrum looks like it's turning into a genuine hit, up to #13 on Spotify today and #14 on Apple

His album also holding up very well, still #10 songs in the t200 despite Sunday not being very kind to his genre...

by comparison, DBE only has 1 track in the top 200 now

Edited by Bjork

That’s actually a really strong Sunday hold for all the top 3 - if anything Sophie is the worst performer of the 3 from Saturday to Sunday considering how she’s been gaining but maybe MOTD does slightly better on “party days”.

oh I spot Frank Ocean - Thinkin''bout You re-entering!!! can this go viral please!!!!

this is one of his bestest <3

'redrum' has got a music video so I guess it is meant to be the main single from the 21 album despite them putting the Doja collab on NMF.
My Ariana cd shipped so I’m curious if they’ll be included in the sales tonight or not
oh HH updated, added 21 Savage re-drum and DBE... but not Sophie :/

I'm pretty sure it's pronounced as 'red rum', not 're-drum' :kink: (although the reference is just the word murder spelt backwards rather than being about the drink)

It's a shame Sophie seems to be getting ignored by HHUK, she's obviously doing fine without it but it could make the difference for her to be #1 if she keeps catching up to Noah.

Yeah it’s a reference to ‘The Shining’. Jack Nicholson is sampled at the end of the track.

YG Marley is (perhaps unsurprisingly) the grandson of Bob Marley.

He is not related, however, to rapper YG. :P

When did we last have reggae in the charts, surely it wasn't MAGIC! with 'Rude'?

Also no relation to the last Marley to appear in the chart (Naira) :magic:
