Posted January 24, 20241 yr Voting has now closed so let's get on with the results! Thanks to those of you who voted (and one of me). Firstly let's get out of the way all of the tracks no one cares for... #63. Byron Messia - Talibans UK chart run: 67-37-34-33-35-37-31-29-{12}-19-17-19-52-43-52-62-72->17 Points: -01 Finishing last and the only song here with a negative score we have the breakthrough hit for Caribbean rapper Byron Messia. The song went viral in June with a remix with Burna Boy put out the following month to boost it into the top 20. Controversially referencing the Afghanistan militant organisation it was one of the year's biggest afrobeats hits. #59. Burna Boy feat. Dave - Cheat On Me UK chart run: {19}-21-25-32-43-44-55-66-72->9 Points: 00 Not a great year for Burna Boy then as both of his hits of the year fall out with not a care by anyone on the forum. 'Cheat On Me' was chosen as the single to lead his album release thanks to its feature from the UK's biggest rapper Dave... #59. Burna Boy - City Boys UK chart run: 31-32-23-22-17-{14}-16-15-15-54-64->11 Points: 00 ...although it was 'City Boys' that ended up going viral and becoming the bigger hit. Although Buzzjack clearly weren't here for that either. #59. Digga D - Energy UK chart run: 19-{15}-24-25-31-43-51-45-50-62-71->11 Points: 00 One of the most controversial UK rappers Digga D managed to get another hit this year, none of his releases since have done that much though and Buzzjack weren't even here for this. #59. Nines - Calendar UK chart run: {19}-26-44-61->4 Points: 00 One of the many UK rappers that Buzzjack don't care for, Nines put out two albums in the year with this being taken from the first of those. We may not hear from him in 2024 though as he was arrested and charged for drug offences. #58. KSI feat. Oliver Tree - Voices UK chart run: {11}-31-56-73->4 Points: 00 After KSI and Oliver Tree both had sizeable hits toward the end of 2022 they clearly decided a collaboration was a good idea. It was not and the song fell flat following a fanbase-inflated top 20 debut. KSI is yet to put out a commercial follow-up release to this as he probably had to go back to the drawing board after this song's poor performance. #57. Mazza_l20 - Murdaside UK chart run: {18}-20-28-57-68-62R(3)-75->7 Points: 02 A no-name rapper from Liverpool which got a push after Aitch & Potter Payper guested on one of its many remixes. Clearly Buzzjack much prefers the criminal offence when it's committed on a dancefloor. #56. Nines feat. GRM Daily - Daily Duppy UK chart run: {20}-30-23-44-69->5 Points: 02 Here's Nines again who featured on GRM Daily's series which also served as the lead for his second album of the year. #55. Travis Scott feat. Playboi Carti - Fein UK chart run: {13}-28-45-55-63->5 Points: 04 Travis Scott's album Utopia was long awaited by fans with this track as the second-highest charting from the release, naturally it fell fairly quickly with other album tracks eventually sticking around a bit longer. #54. Dave & Central Cee - Trojan Horse UK chart run: 14-{12}-20-23-31-36-40-47-59->9 Points: 11 Taken from Dave & Central Cee's collaborative EP, which of course gave them the huge hit 'Sprinter' alongside two additional top 20 hits. #53. Stormzy feat. Fredo - Toxic Trait UK chart run: {11}-16-32-42-54-73R(2)->6 Points: 12 Stormzy attempted to get a big rap hit of his own this year following a few more mellow releases from his last album however it fell flat especially with the better 'Sprinter' being very hot at the time. #52. The Weeknd feat. Future - Double Fantasy UK chart run: {14}-33-53-73->4 Points: 14 Taken from the much talked about series 'The Idol' name power was however only going to get The Weeknd so far for this track that didn't really go anywhere. He'll of course make another appearance later on with the more successful release of the project. #51. Danny Elfman - This Is Halloween UK chart run: {14}->1 Points: 17 A chart oddity here with the season of Halloween increasing its impact on the chart (for all of one week) with this track getting a bigger boost than normal from high-spot playlist additions and granted an SCR reset.
January 24, 20241 yr Considering the names involved you'd have thought Burna Boy/Dave and Future/Weeknd would have been able to come up with better songs than whatever those things were.
January 24, 20241 yr Author #50. Jorja Smith - Stay Another Day UK chart run: 75-38-26-20-18-{16}->6 Points: 19 Alexa strikes again with a cover version of the former Xmas #1 from East 17 that was one of two songs given a heavy push as part of the Amazon Xmas exclusives. Unfortunately it wasn't all that good but at least we have a better song from Jorja to come. #49. Ed Sheeran - Boat UK chart run: 46-{15}R(2)->2 Points: 19 It wasn't a great year for Ed Sheeran having released the last album of his mathematics series it wasn't half as commercially successful as his previous. He got a #1 hit out of the lead single however no further top 10 hits - this was one of two entries from the album impact though it fell out just as fast. #48. The Kid Laroi - Love Again UK chart run: 18-{16}-23-26-28-38-44-48-50->9 Points: 22 Taken as the lead from the new Kid Laroi album it didn't get a lot of love on the forum besides our resident Laroi stan Joseph. He would end up getting a lucky top 10 hit as a follow-up though neither single had too much chart stability. #47. David Guetta, Anne-Marie & Coi Leray - Baby Don't Hurt Me UK chart run: 26-23-19-{13}-13-15-13-13-15-17-19-21-19-18-21-26-67-59-73-68->20 Points: 26 One of the most controversial dance hits of the year for daring to sample beloved 90s classic 'What Is Love' - the song placed in the top five of the yearly hatechart however it had enough supporters here to see it outside the bottom 10. #46. Ed Sheeran - Curtains UK chart run: {16}-32-47-60->4 Points: 29 Edward Christopher Sheeran. #45. Dave & Central Cee - UK Rap UK chart run: 17-14-{13}-19-25-29-33-37-50->9 Points: 31 A British rap song titled 'UK Rap' doesn't sound like peak originality although it was an excuse for both rappers to declare themselves top of the game. It narrowly out-bested their other EP track in the contest. #44. Mae Stephens - If We Ever Broke Up UK chart run: 45-23-20-18-20-17-16-{13}-13-15-15-17-20-22-27-34-36->17 Points: 31 TikTok zoomer pop reared its head early in the year to give us this as Mae Stephens' break-out and likely only hit single. Buzzjack weren't that impressed clearly as it's the lowest 'pure pop' track here. #43. PinkPantheress feat. Central Cee - Nice To Meet You UK chart run: {20}-45->2 Points: 34 PinkPantheress got one massive hit in the year but has struggled a bit with following it up. This track did manage to scrape a top 20 position from the name power of Central Cee as guest rapper however got lost in the Christmas rush afterwards. #42. J Hus - It's Crazy UK chart run: {15}-29-46-71->4 Points: 35 Serving as the comeback single from J Hus as a purely rapped hit it only had so much selling power off his name and he'd soon follow it up with a more commercial offering with a guest Drake feature to get a big hit. #41. Cian Ducrot - I'll Be Waiting UK chart run: 39-22-22-19-21-23-19-{16}-18-17-21-23-58-72->14 Points: 35 Cian will certainly be waiting to ever get a song of his much-loved by Buzzjack as we weren't fussed with either of his two hits generally. At least it wasn't quite as dull as 'All For You'. --- #41-63: 41 35 Cian Ducrot - I'll Be Waiting 42 35 J Hus - It's Crazy 43 34 PinkPantheress feat. Central Cee - Nice To Meet You 44 31 Mae Stephens - If We Ever Broke Up 45 31 Dave & Central Cee - UK Rap 46 29 Ed Sheeran - Curtains 47 26 David Guetta, Anne-Marie & Coi Leray - Baby Don't Hurt Me 48 22 The Kid Laroi - Love Again 49 19 Ed Sheeran - Boat 50 19 Jorja Smith - Stay Another Day 51 17 Danny Elfman - This Is Halloween 52 14 The Weeknd feat. Playboi Carti & Madonna - Popular Tom Grennan - How Does It Feel Troye Sivan - One of Your Girls Zach Bryan feat. Kacey Musgraves - I Remember Everything
January 24, 20241 yr I thought Curtains was Ed’s best hit of the year though it fell just short of my votes.
January 24, 20241 yr No sad losses so far, and glad to see some of this year's most abysmal offerings (Guetta, Stay Another Day) go out early
January 25, 20241 yr Author #40. Bakar - Hell N Back UK chart run: 41-35-28-{20}-27-29-22-24-25-30-32-34-39-39-49R(14)-53-66-65->18 Points: 43 Originally released in 2019, the song belatedly took off in 2023. It was fairly unique in the chart for being a retro inspired indie song, not too dissimilar from Steve Lacy's crossover hit the previous year. #39. Taylor Swift - Hits Different UK chart run: {18}-42->2 Points: 45 It was a big year for Taylor Swift as ever with her having five songs in this here countdown, with an additional five entering the UK top 10. This was one of the bonus tracks from Midnights which without a proper push could only last a single week in the top 40. #38. Tom Grennan - How Does It Feel UK chart run: 58-31-29-23-{17}-18-20-25-22-22-57-70->12 Points: 46 Leading into a #1 album for Tom Grennan came this track which was very standard fare for him. We'll be seeing him again later on. #37. Ryan Gosling - I'm Just Ken UK chart run: 25-14-{13}-18-22-25-36-54-53->9 Points: 50 One of the most talked about actors of the year for his role starring as Ken in the Barbie film - his character song in the film managed to belatedly give him a top 40 appearance after 'City of Stars' fell short in 2017. Most of Buzzjack preferred the bigger pop-friendly hits off its soundtrack naturally (for good reason here). #36. Jax Jones feat. Calum Scott - Whistle UK chart run: 67-46-34-31-25-22-{14}-14-20-17-15-18-19-20-22-25-28-34->18 Points: 53 Jax Jones managed to keep his run of having at least one sizeable hit song per year with this track taking off, although a lot would agree it's far from his best work. #35. Skrillex, Fred Again.. & Flowdan - Rumble UK chart run: {19}-28-30-44-51-59-52-57-72->9 Points: 54 The long awaited comeback of Skrillex brought dubstep back to the chart briefly, with the help of Fred Again's name power too of course. A song like this was always going to have a bit of a mixed reaction here so I'm glad it's top 40 at least. #34. SZA - Snooze UK chart run: 56-48-49-47-40-36-43-46-42-43-46-39-45-52-55-47R(17)-48-{18}-27-20-25->21 Points: 58 The appropriately titled 'Snooze' managed to be a big... sleeper hit. Assisted by a Justin Bieber remix to belatedly give it a push into the top 20. Drake would assist SZA to having two further top 10 hits in the year whilst her own 'Kill Bill' was one of the year's biggest hits. #33. Taylor Swift - All of the Girls You Loved Before UK chart run: {11}-15-26-30-44-54-70->7 Points: 61 Another Taylor Swift vault track now albeit this one was cut from the 'Lover' album and had a bit more legs in the chart. #32. Issey Cross - Bittersweet Goodbye UK chart run: 65-47-38-31-28-23-22-23-25-{19}-21-22-24-27->14 Points: 63 Taking the easy route to getting a sizeable dance hit by blatantly sampling 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' it got Issey Cross into the top 20 for the first time after her two previous chart appearances stalled at the lower end of the top 40. #31. Lil Durk feat. J. Cole - All My Life UK chart run: 17-16-{14}-16-19-23-24-26-27->9 Points: 65 A rapper who is a much bigger deal in America than here however Lil Durk managed to get a crossover hit by enlisting the help of no-one's favourite producer Dr. Luke and a children's choir. Plus J. Cole who is the best part of the song. Well done to them anyhow as the song is the highest rap-led entry in this rundown.
January 26, 20241 yr This forum underrates I'm Just Ken! The fact it finished behind Whistle is a travesty
January 26, 20241 yr I was not a fan of I'm Just Ken at first but I grew to enjoy it even before eventually seeing the movie. Blatant sample indeed but Bittersweet Goodbye I thought was a great effort and how to incorporate a well known song into something still with its own merits. Especially surprising when I previously hadn't been a fan of her vocals in particular on the Wilkinson song a year prior.
January 26, 20241 yr I've grown to love "Snooze" Yes, me too. I thought it was boring at first but now really like it!
January 26, 20241 yr This forum underrates I'm Just Ken! How true! It's an Oscar nomination folks  :P
January 26, 20241 yr Author #30. Fred Again.. & Jozzy - Ten UK chart run: {16}-27-31-31-42-56-73-70R(5)->8 Points: 71 Fred makes another appearance now with this being deemed the better of his minor top 20 hits, it brought US RnB singer/songwriter Jozzy to the chart for the first time and was a bit more of a low-key production for Fred. #29. Taylor Swift - You're Losing Me UK chart run: {20}-45-70-37R(2)-56->5 Points: 74 Another vault release from Taylor now, this one that could've perhaps made the top 10 if it weren't released at Christmas time it was generally received better than her previous one and indeed finishes higher in this rundown. #28. Noah Kahan - Northern Attitude UK chart run: {16}-29-48-64-67-72-28R(2)-30-32->9 Points: 75 Thanks to a newly released duet version with Hozier this gave Noah Kahan a second top 20 appearance following major breakthrough smash 'Stick Season' which remains at #1 strong as ever. We could very well be seeing more of him in 2024. #27. Cher - DJ Play A Christmas Song UK chart run: 41-20-{18}->3 Points: 78 A rare case of an original Christmas song taking off on its own merits it became Cher's first chart appearance in a decade and perhaps a future staple of some forum members' December playlists. #26. Niall Horan - Heaven UK chart run: 18-{16}-20-22-20-19-21-22-21-31-28-34-42-45-42-50-40-49-56-55->20 Points: 78 Taken as the comeback single for former 1D star Niall it had a fairly consistent run for a couple months and out-did the singles from his previous album. #25. The Weeknd feat. Playboi Carti & Madonna - Popular UK chart run: 21-26-27-18-17-{11}-12-15-20-42-50-43-55-59-60-56-66-71-74-48R(12)-11-12->22 Points: 80 The bigger of the two Weeknd releases from 'The Idol' soundtrack, this one being unfortunate enough to stall at #11 on two occasions 6 months apart after it took off again in the new year. To the amazement of many here it also gave Madonna another big hit albeit as a featured artist. #24. Miley Cyrus - River UK chart run: {16}-28-39-48-66->5 Points: 82 Released alongside its parent album as the follow-up to the humongous 'Flowers', clearly that was still too big of a hit for this one to break through proper with it falling fairly quickly out... #23. Miley Cyrus - Used to Be Young UK chart run: {12}-18-20-25-32-26-33-34-40->9 Points: 94 ...and here she is again with a slightly bigger hit (although not better IMO), taken as the lead single for the album's deluxe edition it was a slow song reflecting on growing up. #22. P!nk - Never Gonna Not Dance Again UK chart run: 46-64-61-75-46R(5)-47-53-46-40-43-40-{19}-22-23-32->15 Points: 94 Taken as the lead single for 'Trustfall' the track took a while to get going though eventually scraped the top 40 before taking a leap with the album boost. The follow-up single was generally preferred however and could perhaps be in contention for the win here. #21. D.O.D - So Much In Love UK chart run: 75-55-51-38-24-17-22-23-16-17-18-18-{15}-17-21-22-64-68-74->19 Points: 99 Having had a sleeper hit in 2022 that narrowly missed the top 40, British dance producer D.O.D went one better and got a sizeable top 20 hit which was very welcome to see. Sadly he just misses out on this ranking's top 20.. --- #21-63: 21 99 D.O.D - So Much In Love 22 94 P!nk - Never Gonna Not Dance Again 23 94 Miley Cyrus - Used to Be Young 24 82 Miley Cyrus - River 25 80 The Weeknd feat. January 27, 20241 yr I shouldn't be surprised that the highest placing rap song is the one produced by Dr. Luke with the corny kids' choir chorus but here I am anyway, at least it has a good J. Cole verse on it x and a good surprise that J Hus had the second highest one, I found the rest of this era pretty whatever but 'It's Crazy' is a great visceral drill banger. A relatively decent result for 'UK Rap' there too. 'Talibans' was not far off my votes so aw at that finishing on negative points. Would have liked to see both of the Fred again.. songs a bit higher, if anything I'm a little surprised 'ten' is the higher of the two. 'Northern Attitude', 'Snooze', 'Nice to meet you' and 'Boat' are all too low as well (no surprise at the latter one obvz). Only voted for 6 of the top 20 oops (7 if you count my -2 ) - aside from those I mentioned above I also lost an obvious no-hoper in Nines' Daily Duppy, though I see at least one other person also gave it a mealworm point! - but I still have all of my top 3 in at least, Olivia/Zach/Harry take my energy x River below Used to Be Young is criminal Also this x
January 27, 20241 yr Author #20. Chase & Status & Hedex feat. ArrDee - Liquor & Cigarettes UK chart run: 31-35-29-32-23-20-18-{17}-17-25-39-62->12 Points: 99 In a big year for Chase & Status which gave them an unprecedented two concurrent top 10 hits, another sizeable top 20 hit in the form of this song followed those up. Featuring ArrDee whose own efforts weren't all too popular here, however we are clearly more partial to his rapping when C&S are on production (assisted by newcomer Hedex). #19. Harry Styles - Satellite UK chart run: 71-49-36-47-31-{18}-28-33-35->9 Points: 100 Taken as the fourth single from the very successful 'Harry's House' which spawned the biggest song of 2022 and two further top 3 hits - this one couldn't go quite so far but regardless did fairly well for a post-album release assisted by its robot-starring music video. #18. Leigh-Anne - Don't Say Love UK chart run: {11}-52-59-54-65-71-75R(2)->7 Points: 101 The first solo single from former Little Mix star Leigh-Anne, although who knows if an album is on the way. The song had a great entry point albeit inflated by a chunk of signed CDs so its drop out the top 40 the following week came as no surprise. #17. Taylor Swift - Karma UK chart run: 68-57-55-56-61-67-{12}-20-33-32-31-32-32R(2)->13 Points: 106 Released as the third single from 'Midnights', it took a remix with fad rapper of the month Ice Spice to boost it into the top 20 although people generally preferred the original. #16. The Ronettes - Sleigh Ride UK chart run: 68-58R(104)-75R(49)-70-69-34-51R(49)-41-40-34-33-51R(48)-36-35-29-23-66R(48)-35-32-30-22-51R(48)-29-26-24-{20}->26 Points: 109 A classic 60s Christmas song recorded for Phil Spector's Christmas album, having recently gained popularity through streaming playlists this was the year it finally cracked the top 20. #15. Post Malone - Chemical UK chart run: {11}-13-14-14-13-12-16-18-21-68-72R(3)-68-24R(2)-23-23-25->16 Points: 112 Following a handful of top 20 hits that his previous album spawned which weren't too well received, he came back with a more pop-folk esque track that became a bigger and more-liked hit. #14. Mimi Webb - Red Flags UK chart run: 23-21-20-15-17-15-17-13-{12}-12-13-12-12-18-24-25->16 Points: 116 Her 6th top 40 hit in the space of two years this ended up with a lengthy top 20 run but to the disappointment of Buzzjack's pop fans couldn't break the glass ceiling of #12. #13. Linkin Park - Lost UK chart run: {18}-54->2 Points: 121 A new Linkin Park song in 2023 came as a bit of a surprise and was their first chart entry since their lead singer passed away in 2017. Of course the song was actually recorded in 2002 and came out as part of the anniversary re-release of their 'Meteroa' album. #12. Jorja Smith - Little Things UK chart run: 57-45-28-20-15-15-14-13-{11}-14-17-14-16-16-47-45-50-57-71-65->20 Points: 125 Jorja's first major hit since 2019, this couldn't quite become her 2nd top 10 hit however made up for it with a lengthy top 20 run. It was also assisted by a house remix that became more popular than the original. #11. Anne-Marie feat. Shania Twain - Unhealthy UK chart run: 58-55-48-36-24-20-21-19-19-21-22-{18}-21-19-22-61-67-70->18 Points: 126 Leading into her album of the same title this track excited a few here for bringing back country star Shania Twain back to the chart after nearly 2 decades. The song itself was far less annoying than the previous singles 'Psycho' and 'Sad B!tch' too. --- #11-63: 11 126 Anne-Marie feat. January 27, 20241 yr Oops I've only just realised that I forgot to vote for 'Rumble' would've given that at least a handful of points but must've accidentally deleted it from my list. #clericalerror From those I did actually vote for (:kink:) I've lost: 'ten', 'You're Losing Me', 'River', 'Satelllite', 'Sleigh Ride', 'Chemical' and 'Little Things' so 8/10 still in the running *.*
January 27, 20241 yr Oops there goes 3 of my remaining 6 :kink: I guess 'Sleigh Ride' being a bit of an oddity on the list could have landed almost anywhere but I am a bit disappointed to see Harry and Jorja both missing the top 10, I actually thought the latter might be the highest finisher out of the songs I voted for! At least 'Karma' is out now as well, has always just been a trainwreck of a song for me with or without Ice Spice x (and speaking of the originals being better, we do not acknowledge the Gypsy Woman medley version of 'Little Things' regardless of how popular it is) 'Liquor & Cigarettes' has grown on me a bit now but still not quite to the standard of the other two top 40 hits from their new album. 'Don't Say Love' wasn't far off my votes also, a bit of a blink and you'll miss it hit but much better than I expected from any solo Little Mix track really, though I didn't care nearly as much for 'My Love'. 'Chemical' and 'Lost' are both gooduns too but also didn't quite make my votes and props to 'UNHEALTHY' for being a rare listenable Anne-Marie song.
