Here are some flops from the first quarter of 2007 that nobody has yet mentioned;

 

Placebo – Running Up That Hill [Peaked at #66 in January 2007]

Of course this was a cover of the famous Kate Bush single (which itself would re-peak many years later), and whilst in 2007 this cover reached #66, it did rebound to #44 in 2010. The last charting single from Placebo.

 

 

Noisettes – Sister Rosetta (Capture The Spirit) [Peaked at #63 in February 2007]

The Noisettes were not quite ready yet for their bug breakthrough single, having already had a flop in 2006, but at least this single fared a little bug better.

 

 

FHM High Street Honeys – I Touch Myself [Peaked at #34 in February 2007]

Girls Of FHM had a Top 10 single in 2004 with another cover single, this one, originally by The Divinyls, was less impressive in its chart run, managing just a week in the Top 40, perhaps all it deserved at the time.

 

 

WiFi feat. Melanie M – Be Without You [Peaked at #42 in March 2007]

WiFi itself was still a brand new concept to most households at the time, this dance single didn’t quite have what it took to be a Top 40 single in the Spring of 2007.

Be Without You deserved better really. It faired how it did thanks to Clubland exposure as it was released through the label. Only just over 12 months previously did Mary J. Blige's version chart (#32) and then Booty Luv went on to cover it in 2007 too for their album. Mary's version spent almost 6 months outside of the Top 40 after its initial peak so maybe everyone was bored of hearing it :lol:

This one got to No.44 in 2007, despite being released in The Netherlands in 2003 and Germany in 2005 when it got to No.1 there. I have no idea how it was relevant to the UK music scene in 2007 and why they felt it apt to release it here that late. It was a Woolies chart No.1, but the concept of the Woolies chart was dying off by then and I guess it might have been a label bought placement. The band went semi-viral recently (and were also entered to BJSC) with 1001 Arabian Nights.

Wow at that getting as high as it did in 2007. It definitely would've done better in 02/03 so I'm baffled why it got a release 4 years later here???

Simon Webbe followed up on 'Coming Around Again' with this as the second single and deservedly flopped at 45. Why he chose this as a single is anyone's guess. Boring.

 

Kelly Clarkson had one of the biggest eras for a solo female of the 00's. 'Breakaway' was a MAJOR smash in every corner of the globe. So she was primed and positioned well to be in for a huge follow-up era.

 

'Never Again' didn't set the charts alight, but still managed to be an ok-ish hit (still wasn't as big as it should have been) and 'My December' was deemed a big "flop" despite being such a great album!

 

The next single 'Don't Waste Your Time' didn't even chart iirc and the era was dropped pretty quickly following it. I think it was actually cancelled? But still... It's a damn shame this era never got the love or appreciation it deserved.

 

I loved My December era Kelly! I don't think a second single was ever released in the UK from the album though. Her label really did her dirty.

Sober really deserved a push, although I doubt it would have done anything, the darker edged material just wasn't connecting with the general public sadly. I still listen to that album a lot - Irvine, Chivas, Be Still, Judas, How I Feel etc etc...all great.

I almost forgot about this one from Ciara. It only made #109, though I'm unsure if it was properly sent to radio etc. She was really on point in 2007 even if the charts don't agree. :lol:

I just think that Shapeshifters influenced style of dance was flopping by this stage after being popular the previous two years, see 'Counting Down The Days' underperformance too. Its why I didn't used to like 2007 for dance music.

Moving onto the second quarter of 2007, here are more flops;

 

James Morrison – Undiscovered [Peaked at #63 in March 2007]

It was toward the end of his debut era, the fourth single from the album also titled Undiscovered was not able to make any sort of real chart impact in 2007.

 

 

Hanson – Go [Peaked at #44 in April 2007]

It was released as the second single from their fourth album The Walk. It would become the last charting single for the three brothers Isaac, Taylor and Zac.

 

 

Thirty Seconds To Mars – The Kill (Bury Me) [Peaked at #52 in May 2007]

Astonishingly this famous anthem from American band was not a Top 40 hit in its most known form, but an alternative version titled "Rebirth" reached #28 later in 2007.

 

 

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Hump De Bump [Peaked at #41 in May 2007]

A non-hit from the Chili's that was released as the fifth and final single released from Stadium Arcadium. Despite the change in musical style of the rest of the album, its sound is similar to that of the band's earlier music.

 

 

Justice – D.A.N.C.E. [Peaked at #48 in June 2007]

Having had a Top 20 hit in 2006 with We Are Your Friends with Simian, this new single was tipped to do well in the charts, but it missed out on a Top 40 status in the Summer of 2007.

 

 

Melanie C – Carolyna [Peaked at #49 in June 2007]

Spending just a solitary week inside the Top 100, this former Spice Girl’s single was not the most well received. It was released as the second single to be taken from her album, This Time Although Melanie worked hard on promotion for the single, it didn't have the impact that was hoped and sales stalled and it would go on to be a flop from 2007.

 

Definitely a shock that 'D.A.N.C.E.' missed the top 40, feels like a classic now!

Yeah especially coming off the back of two top 10 hits before it.

 

Was a blip only for him as of course he got a #1 with Dizzee the following year and then obviously his 2009 with 'I'm Not Alone' and rest is history

One I ended buying the CD of as I wanted the specific 'new' radio edit. Was disappointed it didn't make the Top 40 as it seemed to be everywhere at the time
