I think it crazy that a BRITISH single (I Like the Way You Kiss Me) is #1 on global Spotify with over 9 million daily streams and yet the UK public has it just at #5 on official charts  I mean it's the biggest global hit for the UK act since Adele's Easy on Me.

It's #2 on UK Spotify to be fair though, if we compare like for like!

Something about his music sounds very European more than a UK sound so maybe that has something to do with it even though it's still going to be big in the UK

I just checked the German Spotify data and artemas is 1 there with 949k streams second place has 507k so that’s really why it’s 1 on global it’s huge in Germany and maybe some other European countries. It has that euro dubby type sound

Back to Black up to 59

And Tears Dry on my Own at 156 on Apple

Wonder if B2B could get a reset off the back of the film

Bob Marley did from that film so like Amy could to

Zara Larsson always got insanely good Spotify playlisting. I think maybe because she's Swedish she got better treatment. But I don't exactly expect her to be like "Stop playlisting me so much, it's not fair". You've just got to accept it and be thankful.

Major Lazer as well, and Cheerleader. I think those songs were mostly hits because of Spotify. But it's always been like that, lots of songs were hits just because Global Radio (Capital FM, etc.) or Radio 1 playlisted them, so it's not really much different with Spotify playlists.

Yeah, Global heavily pushed Lawson when they signed them around 2015-ish. Ellis James & John Robins joked a while ago on how unsuited they were for the Radio X playlist, and the feedback from listeners was always negative.

On My Love has received amazing playlisting but I wouldn't say Zara does as a whole, at least not anymore. It took ages for Can't Tame Her to peak because they were reluctant to playlist it for ages.

Exploding-ish.

It's paywalled now but there was in fact an article on Billboard in 2015 with Spotify flexing their influence to take such songs ("Take Me To Church" and "Lean On" were the ones cited) all the way to the top. In these cases though, I suspect it's more a case of them seeing promise through early listener activity and turning the screws after the fact to get them further. Not quite the same as making a hit out of thin air.

not surprised to see Espresso taking off, it sounds like the spiritual successor to Doja Cat's dance pop hits like Say So/Kiss Me More so i can imagine tiktok being all over it

I take it Sabrina is going viral on tiktok?

She's also new at #11 on Youtube with 175K (the #1 is doing roughly 200K)
