Seems clear on both platforms what the top 3 Taylor tracks are now people are cherry picking their faves rather than just listening to the album start to finish. Don't get the love for Down Bad yet, but might need some more listens outside the album to click.

 

So pleased for Sabrina. Even if autoplay is boosting the numbers, it is clear there is a lot of love for the track and expect Espresso to hang around the top for a long time, especially when we have some more consistent sunny weather.

it's clearly a very popular hit but autoplay has to be a factor, it wouldn't be sitting on 1m streams otherwise

we saw this with Hozier a few weeks ago, now Spotify aren't pushing him so much with autoplay he's not doing 900k anymore

This is the natural cycle of songs, they have peaks and get super popular in moments for a multitude of reasons. Autoplay in general is algorithm based. So a song being very popular means it gets added to a lot of autoplays but people seem to dismiss huge numbers as autoplay when it's a minor addition.

So I finally bothered to listen to Espresso (I didn't listen to the chart show this week).

 

It's not a bad song but it certainly doesn't deserve this level of success. Middling at best.

this Shaboozay song has also exploded today in both UK & US, but again

hate it now that we cannot even be sure if stream increases are genuine or not

Taylor’s hold has been incredibly steady for an album release! I’m impressed. ‘Fortnight’ is a huge ear worm. That synth bassline is stunning and very reminscent of something that could be found on the ‘Drive’ movie score/soundtrack :wub:

The criteria is actually 900,000 for some reason, you pass that, it's a hit :D

 

Heard Espresso today on radio can see why it is popular, catchy but harmless. Very GP friendly.
