And we finish 1-0 - some scary moments at the end for Spain but they did feel like the better team on the day.

Hopefully they both play with the intention to win rather than chasing a draw that will probably get them through anyway as it seems England were this afternoon. Definitely feels like they need to look at either cutting the tournament back to 16 teams or extending to 32 so we can just have top 2 go through - I don't like the best third placed stuff (especially as it's going to affect the next extended world cup with this parasite of a format). I'd prefer cutting it back to 16 and keeping the world cup at 32.

Yeah in general there is a definite shift in mentality from the natural mindset of playing to win every match. Euro 2016 in particular was most badly affected by this, but even this year you've had the Scotland manager saying from the get go before a ball was kicked that they're aiming for 4 points. There is less of a feeling of panic after losing one of the first two matches because it's almost impossible to get knocked out if you can get a win and a draw in the remaining matches.

 

 

 

It was not the attacking end-to-end match I was hoping for but Spain truly deserved the victory as they were the better team for the whole match. Italy didn't offer much until stoppage time when it was too late. Italy should be fine ultimately to go into the knockout stage with help from winning the 1st group match against Albania.

never seen Italy play so apathic, they totally deserve the loss and go home, what a shitty team, not even trying anything, playing dirty etc etc

Both Italy and Croatia have been disappointing so far so I don't know who will win in their match.

 

Can see Albania who have played well so far defending well and making it difficult for Spain.

For people who may remember the commentator on Croatia v Italy when he gets excited reminds me a lot of Robot Wars.

The late late Italian show.

That was heart-breaking for Croatia, especially after they showed Modric biting his shirt in anxiety with a minute of stoppage time to go. The game really picked up from the moment Croatia went into the lead. Italy's defence of the trophy goes on!

Spain are the only team to win all 3 group matches so far at these Euros and they did it without conceding a goal. They look like potential tournament winners but there will be tougher obstacles ahead.
