Anyone else off the 5/7 and up all night on election night?

Yep booked the day off! Celebration day (hopefully).

I have the popcorn ordered!!

Tempted to try and get the Thursday half day to have a decent nap in the afternoon or I might need extra lucozade. I always find the night flies by, I put the wife to bed at 10pm during the exit poll and next thing the suns up and she’s getting ready for work!!

The 2017 election was unreal - the aul exit poll came in and everyone thought the tories would get a landslide and aul JC took seats off the bast*rds, aul Mandelsons face in the bbc studio was as red as a beetroot - fuming he was and aul Osbourne was loving it on itv!!

I think I'm going to go to sleep at midnight and then try and wake up for 6am. I doubt much would have been revealed before that point.

The general election has results from 1am through the night, most of the results are normally in by 9am the next morning!
The results will be there in the morning. Some of us don’t have the luxury of taking time off to stay up.

It’s frustrating, isn’t it? This will be the first election when I have to go to work the following morning.

I know the results will be there in the morning but I enjoy the all nighter watching them and thankfully do have the luxury of taking time off to watch them 👍

yes, there's a bar not too far from me that's staying open all night (til 8am I think!) showing the election results live, I'm hoping to pull the all-nighter there but it might be a bit of a battle :')

lolwut

Please elaborate? Nicola Sturgeon was literally the only politician that had a brain during COVID  despite sometimes having to align herself with how the rest of the UK governments were responding.

Lockdown was 100% the worst experience of my life and the SNP just assumed everybody was middle class enough to be able to get through it within the rules they set.

I’m pretty sure that was t their thinking most of their support is in the central belt which is the most working class areas of Britain. They were thinking more about saving lives.
Whatever. It's over and done with now. I'm not going to get into it. As someone who lived through it it was hell, and unnecessarily unpleasant, no matter what the intent.
Yeh it wasn’t a great time for anybody which is why it’ll be remembered forever. I’d say the lockdowns will be discussed ALOT throughout the history of this century and I imagine those of us who lived through it will wonder how we all did it.

For those unsure on who to vote for (and don't want to vote tactically ), there's a great website I've just discovered that allows you to choose from a set of categories (education, housing, economy etc) and it will show each party's stance on the selected issue but without revealing the names of the parties (so you're essentially doing it blind). At the end it will reveal which party best aligns with your views on each issue.

Very important, particularly if you've not looked into any of the issues or haven't in a long while, to make sure you're still in line with the party you think you're voting for.

I seem to have fortuitously been given the next couple of Fridays off at my work, lucky for me (though I would have organised my sleep schedule around it anyway, it only happens once every few years).

I feel like I just cannot vote Labour in the political climate we’re in for trans people right now. I’ve always voted Labour since I could vote in 2015, but the diet Tories we have under Kier Starmer I just find it really hard to get behind. It feels like every day they stab trans people in the back and in turn the LGBTQ+ community itself. No matter what other policies I can get behind, I just feel like I cannot stand there and vote for Labour in the shape it is now, so I’m very much leaning towards Green, even if it is a “wasted” vote.

It’s going to be a very odd day on the 5th, feeling on one hand elated to get the Tories out, but if you told me I wouldn’t even be happy it was Labour in power when the last election happened, I’d laugh at you. I didn’t rota myself in for the Friday so I can stay up too, love being a manager
