Hello once again, and welcome to the first ever song contest hosted right here in the 21st Century Throwback forum! :welcome: Here we celebrate music only from this millennium and disregard anything with even a shred of relevance to the 20th century. :nono: Only the best music is allowed, and we want as many as possible to take part in this fun community event! :D

Thank you to the 25 different individuals have sent in a song that they feel represents the spirit of this song contest! The theme for this debut song contest was Pop Anthems and a wide variety of entries from 2000 right up to 2013 were selected, ranging from minor UK hits to relatively unknown gems.

As a brief reminder, how this works is that this is an anonymous contest, so please refrain from revealing or hinting at your entry until after the results are over!

Please vote for your favourite songs by scoring each song a positive number in your Top 12 using the standard scoring system used for other song contests on BuzzJack;

Please PM me, awardinary, with your votes no later than Sunday 7th July 2024 at 23:59 GMT. It goes without saying, but please don’t vote for your own entry and remember to keep your entry secret and don’t reveal its identity to anyone. Those who haven’t submitted an entry to this contest are also welcome to take part in voting for their favourites if they wish to. :)

Please see the attached Spotify playlist, as well as a playlist you can follow along with on YouTube. :music:

I will look to host a listenthrough on SyncTube some point in the week when it is most preferred for people.

Here are your entries for this inaugural edition of Bop Idol (random sequence courtesy of random.org), please enjoy! ^_^

I nearly tried Phoenix's Lisztomania for this, but thought it may not quite fit the type of pop expected...I suppose it's a good thing I didn't even if it would've been accepted as I may have been too late! Good choice as well though. That's the only song I recognise, though a few familiar names.

Looks like only about 5 people actually did send a UK top 100 hit in the end then (and only 2 top 40, A*Teens and Jessy, unless I overlooked something). Good to see a generally pretty inspired list, I think the only song here that I've heard is '1901' which is a banger so that's a good start x

(I have also heard a remix of 'Broken Angel' which was sent to BJSC before but not the original version)

Omg I know quite a lot from the list!!!

Gabriel is such a classic I always adored so I’m really looking forward finding out who sent that!!!

I'm familiar with Jessy through Belgian chart, she had many top 10 hits in Ultratop.

Had a listen through (thanks for the playlist!!) and sent my votes. :cheer: Clear winner, with my 4-10 pointers really close in rating.

(Btw by clear winner I mean in terms of my rate, not the contest)

I can’t remember why but I remember the Fe-Nix song

Alizée's 'Moi... Lolita' is pretty much pop perfection and I've never heard anything else by her so I'm most looking forward to checking that one out!

This is a really good quality contest, lots to love here. I knew 11/25 songs but that's ok, most are very good picks and many I haven't heard in a very long time and was happy to be reminded of.

Ok a couple of listenthrough options...

I can offer to host a listenthrough tomorrow (Friday) evening around 8pm, or early next week, maybe Monday evening, the same time.

Happy to accommodate for whatever is best for everyone.

Can't make early next week but would also be happy for some time later next week too
