Biography

While it can be a big challenge for a young performer to transition from teen-TV stardom to success in the music world, Sabrina Carpenter’s made it look easy. It helps that Carpenter—born in 1999 in Pennsylvania—has pursued both sides of her career in tandem, releasing her first music before she became a regular presence on the Disney Channel thanks to her roles in Girl Meets World and Adventures in Babysitting. (She also made her Broadway debut in 2020 in the musical Mean Girls—how’s that for multitasking?) On her first two albums—2015’s Eyes Wide Open and 2016’s EVOLution—Carpenter set herself apart from her teenage peers with her deft delivery and her eagerness to embrace a wide array of dance-music styles. Elements of trap and house help energise two hits that topped Billboard’s dance-music chart in 2019: “Sue Me”, a cheeky kiss-off partially inspired by a lawsuit by two of her former managers, and “Almost Love”, a thrilling club track Carpenter co-wrote with the Stargate production team. A two-part album that dropped in 2018 and 2019, Singular: Act I and Singular: Act II provided more proof of Carpenter’s fast-developing abilities as a singer and songwriter who’s moved past any of the teen-star stereotypes to become a full-fledged club diva. The intimate emails i can't send followed in 2022. - Apple Music

PPP still at 1. 'Espresso' whilst fun has had it's time though.

Going by the Spotify numbers, wouldn't be surprised if Espresso returns to Number 1 next week :yahoo:

As mentioned in the streaming thread I could see Espresso taking it next week before going to ACR and the PPP coming back again!

The Kid LAROI

Biography

In an Apple Music interview from mid-2020, The Kid LAROI reminisced about the short but formative time he spent in LA living with the late emo rapper Juice WRLD. They’d hang out all day, bonding, making music, seeing friends, whatever. People always coming and going, never a dull moment. Sometimes, Juice would wake LAROI up in the middle of the night, wild with excitement about a track LAROI had to put a verse on. Other mornings, LAROI would wake up to his and Juice’s managers saying it was time to pack up and head to Texas. Like, now. He was 15, 16 years old. “I’d never experienced anything like that,” he said. “Especially coming from Australia, where everything is kind of like its own bubble.” Not that 15-year-olds outside Australia would be used to it either. But such is the meteoric ascent of a talented young rapper circa 2020. Born Charlton Howard in 2003, LAROI—whose name is a reference to the Kamilaroi Indigenous nation, in which he has family roots—grew up in the suburbs of Sydney, and began to work on music when he was a pre-teen. Like Juice WRLD, Post Malone or even Lil Peep, LAROI’s key tracks—“ALWAYS DO”, “TRAGIC” and the Juice WRLD collaboration “GO”—blend ultra-melodic trap with shades of alternative rock and classic pop, a fusion that has put him on the front burner of pop-rap. His first album, F*CK LOVE, hit the Top 10 before he turned 18. - Apple Music

Burna Boy

Higher

170x170bb.jpg

1st single from forthcoming studio album

Released: 27th June 2024

Biography

Nigerian singer Burna Boy opened his Apple Music Up Next spotlight with a distinction: “Music’s supposed to be a universal language. You understanding what I’m saying is second. The primary thing is, what does the person inside you hear?” It’s a simple but radical thought: You can listen on your terms, but he doesn’t have to meet you halfway. Born in 1991 and raised on the southern coast of Nigeria before moving to London for college, Burna (born Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu) has become one of the most prominent African pop artists of the 21st century, fusing his specific background—a Nigerian man entering adulthood in the United Kingdom—with a global vision that encompasses Afrobeats, dancehall, trap, UK hip-hop and just about everything else that might fit under his diasporic umbrella. The result is an artist who isn’t confined by his identity but doesn’t dilute it either. By the time he received broader recognition through a (conspicuously uncredited) feature on Drake’s 2017 mix, More Life, he was already a star in Africa; 2019’s African Giant, which featured collaborators as disparate as Angélique Kidjo, Skrillex, Damian Marley and Future, brought him into international focus. That only grew with his 2023 Apple Music Live performance, which saw him play songs from across his catalogue at London Stadium. - Apple Music

The Kid Laroi's 'Girls' is amazing. :D

His 'Nights Like This' is at #47 today. I wonder if he is able to get 2 top 40 songs in the top 40 next Friday. :P

New peaks and new entries outside the top 40:

41. Asake ft. Central Cee - Wave (NEW)

44. BL3SS & CamrinWatsin ft. bbyclose - Kisses (+14)

47. The Kid LAROI - NIGHTS LIKE THIS (+22)

50. Majestic, The Jammin Kid & Celiné Dion - Set My Heart On Fire (+4)

60. Dominic Fike - Misses (+23)

68. Sonny Fodera ft. Blythe - Mind Still (+6)

69. Perrie - Tears (NEW)

83. Mustard ft. Travis Scott - Parking Lot (NEW)

87. Rudimental & Karen Harding - Bring Me Joy (NEW)

91. Cyril - Stumblin' In (+7)

95. Fontaines D.C. - Favourite (NEW)

Dasha spending 12 consecutive weeks top 10 without going higher than 7. :o :o :o Chappell at 7 with GLB! Don’t mind which Sab song rules the chart - both are worthy.

No Crazy Town re-entry then?

Good to see a busy week of top 40 new entries (albeit all in the lower half) - 'DEVIL IS A LIE' isn't quite as strong as 'MILLION DOLLAR BABY' for me but still another jam so happy to see Tommy quickly escaping one hit wonder territory (yay for MDB re-entering the top 10 too x), and also good to see Jordan Adetunji entering in the top 30, I presume his Spotify streams didn't get lost for the 2 days the song disappeared from the chart for whatever reason then. Only 4 places away from matching the highest position the actual Kehlani has reached :magic: I heard 'feelslikeimfallinginlove' on the radio in full for the first time today and I think it's probably Coldplay's worst lead single to date but it's not quite as bland as I feared it would be based on a couple of clips I had heard from it before, fingers crossed there'll be better songs on the album (still looking forward to the supposed Little Simz collab on it) but regardless still good to see a band that's been going for over 2 decades still able to get consistent singles chart success, outpeaking 'Orphans' and looking like it might stick around fairly well.

I still need to listen to the Lorde version which I hope will improve it a lot but yay for Charli getting a third top 30 hit from this album even if it's nowhere near one of my favourite songs from it. 'Sympathy is a knife' to blow up and get to #29 next pls x (or just to #1 tbh). 'the boy is mine' likewise is actually my least favourite song from Ariana's album oops but it's still ok, always good to see post-album hits. I hoped 'Red Wine Supernova' might grow on me but I relistened to it a couple of times recently and it's if anything even more annoying than I remember it being, I do understand its popularity but it's not for me at all, at least I'm still here for the continuing rise for 'Good Luck, Babe!' and to a lesser extent 'HOT TO GO!' ~

Also yas at 'Not Like Us' being back in the top 15 (and 'euphoria' also sneaking back into the top 100) *.* and Taylor allowing Gracie Abrams to keep the #1 album, so I can whip out my analysis from the other week again with a slight tweak :magic: (but it could have been 5 in a row xx).

Unless I overlooked something when looking through my playlist of #1 album tracks, I think if Charli xcx Gracie Abrams gets #1 this'll be the first time we've ever had 4 new #1 albums in a row by all-female acts!

There was a run of 5 #1 albums in 1989 that included 3 groups with female singers, 1 female solo artist and a cast ensemble with female vocalists on most of the album's songs (Transvision Vamp, Soul II Soul, Gloria Estefan, the cast of Aspects Of Love and Eurythmics), then a run in 2009-2010 where 11 out of 16 new #1 albums were by either female solo artists or groups with female singers and there's another run of 4 if you include cast ensembles with prominent female members again (Vera Lynn, Muse, Madonna, Paramore, Barbra Streisand, Editors, Alexandra Burke, Cheryl Cole, JLS, Leona Lewis, Susan Boyle, Michael Bublé, Florence + The Machine, Alicia Keys, Glee Cast, Ellie Goulding). Those were the only runs of 4 in a row I could find that didn't include at least one male solo artist or all male group.

(edit: not counting 'Various Artists' #1 albums from before the inception of the compilations chart anyway, there are probably other runs of 4+ #1 albums with at least some female representation if you count those x)

Not heard the song yet but a shame to see Asake narrowly missing out on a first top 40 hit, the most exciting name in afrobeats for me. Yay for Fontaines D.C. managing to hold on to get a second top 100 single though!
