WE'RE RECEIVING ANONYMOUS INFORMATION THAT DAVID LAMMY MP (DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER) IS BEING BRIEFED AND PREPARED TO TAKE OVER AS INTERIM PM PENDING STARMER'S RESIGNATION AS EARLY AS 6PM THIS EVENING BUT POSSIBLY NEXT THURSDAY.

STILL TRYING TO GET VERIFICATION FROM SOURCES.

Sounds like he's going to resign....

  • It was obvious for at least a year before the election that the Tories were deliberately leaving an almighty mess for Labour to clear up. Unfunded cuts to NI and a string of unfunded spending commitme

  • It is refreshing though to see Labour abandon courting the racist vote and attacking them instead. It’s taken just a little too long for that to happen.

The original rumour was he'd resign if he lost the Gorton and Denton by-election. Can only assume there's more links to Epstein to come out soon if he's going to resign any sooner.

Is that from Sky News?

Searching that phrase verbatim leads me only to Facebook pages of dubious provenance (anti-Labour "patriotic" Reform weirdos). I see nothing credible supporting it.

Currently reputable news sites are still focusing on the police investigation into Mandelson and what the PM will release about them, though they're certainly giving off the impression of getting rather giddy being able to talk about potential successors.

Angela Rayner now bookies favourite for next PM despite her housing purchase woes. She still has huge support.

Her and Burnham are only two who could beat Starmer with an MP vote, over 50%. Burnham more than Angela. Miliband and Streeting, no.

Good riddance, a solid centre for much of the rot at the heart of the Labour Party.

It might, might, quell this scandal now there's a significant scalp, but as much as I'd like to see the government's direction move away from the anti-Labour McSweeney-led direction he pioneered, there's too many who share his views right at the top.

if the government manage to get the messaging right, they can pile a lot of Labour unpopularity at his feet now, but that's also optimistic tbh

I don't feel like this is going away easily somehow, he's up to his neck in it and everybody knows.

If there is any justice then it will take down Wes Streeting too.

Lots of speculation a Starmer resignation could be coming today.

What are your sauces? kink

Good riddance!

Starmer looks like he'll be out in May regardless. Hardly lasting longer as PM than Sunak, so much for - 'ending the chaos'. I couldn't believe at the time the amount of political capital that was risked on Mandelson given the amount of information already out in the public domain, and am not surprised that it has blown up this government. I also can't stand all this 'I was lied to' excuses, as though that makes the decision any less reprehensible. It makes him look weak and naive and demonstrates his poor judgement.

The fact that even the idea (with the knowledge known at the time) that Mandelson was considered for this high profile role, let alone accepted, is a total disgrace.

This government has been treading water since it came in, and to quote Starmer himself.. indulges in the 'tepid bath of managed decline'.

It certainly feels like it's gonna be a long long time before a PM ends on their own terms ever again.

I love how the press are (rightly) disgusted by Mandelson as if his behaviour is a shock and yet a few short years ago they wheeled him out for his opinions of the Corbyn Labour leadership at every opportunity.
