July 16, 20241 yr I was gonna offer to do the first listenthrough tomorrow but can leave it a bit if more people would prefer :jump: (aside, random.org balanced the semi lengths well this time with the Spotify playlists both being just under 2 hours - semi 1 is actually the slightly shorter of the two despite containing an 18 minute Scotland 2 entry :lol: I see there's only one other song over 5 minutes there compared to 6 5+ minute songs in semi 2). My entry this month is the 2nd oldest song I've ever sent to the main contest, dating back to 2002 (µ-Ziq's 'Hasty Boom Alert' from 1997 remaining the only time to date I've reached back to the 20th century) - although I think it sounds much older, could definitely have been plucked directly out of the 80s! It is a song that I found when searching for an entry for Bop Idol but didn't send it there as it's too moody to fit a 'pop anthems' theme (second time in a row that my entry is one I originally found when searching for a song for a different contest oddly enough). A bit of darkwave / gothic synthpop for you all x And appropriately enough landing in the death slot B-) Slightly bugs me that the word 'Frozen' is in lower case on Spotify for some reason, don't think it's intentional as they don't stylise the name like that anywhere else including on other streaming services, but what can ya do :kink: I think there are only 5 songs I've already heard from this contest and they're all in my semi! As Chez already posted I know Lotunia's entry already from PFSC and I was a big fan of that, I think I remember it being one that got mostly either high points or nothing there, so will be happy to see it getting some wider exposure / a second chance for anyone who didn't immediately love it from PFSC x Also already heard the Cheiron and Elëdan songs from the PopJustice contest (I voted for both of them there so at least moderate hype for both of them too!), Dobago's from the Electronic Track of the Week poll (I know there are several other entries here that are in the current poll in its new monthly format but not listened to those yet) + I've heard the whole album Skall's entry is from, it's a great album but this song wasn't one I picked out to return to specifically so hopefully will click more hearing it in isolation again a few years on! I have also heard the Shontelle version of Pestolia's entry back in the day lmao but not the original *_* Likewise not sure I've ever heard Singerpurear's but the melody should ring a bell from a certain UK #1 that interpolated it :magic: Also hyped to hear this new Wardruna song as they're usually pretty consistently great so cool to see them in the contest again x Welcome back to Numayania and congrats on the new identity! x (also WB to Conoria, Lotunia, Pagasa and Sandénia and welcome for the first time to Hinterlandia :jump:) Since we didn't have anyone keeping track in my absence, aside from the banned nations we've lost Eastovka, Holland-Oats, Kylienips, The Spodic Empire, Tartford and Utopia from the last contest. Only a one month comeback from the latter for now then but better than nothing.
