The women's pole vault tonight is interesting - usually the Top 12 qualify, but in the qualifiers nine people finished in joint 12th so we actually have 20 people in the Final!

Silver for Hudson-Smith in the 400m - so close! That steeplechase was quite something to watch as well - really feel for that guy who fell at the last hurdle just as he was starting to move forwards.

If only Hudson-Smith had looked to his right as he was approaching the finish line like some other athletes have done. He would have seen Quincy Hall emerging at the front and then he could have dipped his head quicker than Quincy did which could have made the difference.

That was a nasty fall from the Ethiopian athlete in the Men's Steeplechase final, I hope he will make a full recovery but that is bound to haunt him for the next 4 years if not for the rest of his life as he was in a good position up to that point to be in the medals.

The women's pole vault final was really competitive once the bar had been raised to 4.85. The top 3 all did impressively well and it's nice to see a 1st Olympic gold medal for Nina Kennedy.

Another good athletics session with a world record in the 400m hurdles, a first ever gold medal for Botswana, a gold in the javelin for Pakistan (their first outside hockey) and KJT leading the heptathlon after day 1. I think she will need a good javelin throw tomorrow to have a chance of gold.

Apparently Noah Lyles has Covid and he knew before he took part in the 200 m final. That would explain why he was wearing a mask before the race and why he looked so worn out after it. He should not have taken part but the accolade of winning both the 100 & 200 m gold medals was too much of a temptation for him to resist and now this is where it has got him. Not even a silver medal in the 200 m either.

After winning 3 gold medals in the World Championships in recent years Grant Holloway finally got his first Olympic gold medal in the Men's 110 m hurdles.

It's funny how people's attitude to Covid has changed, imagine the outrage if he had done that at the last Olympics! Also I assumed all athletes were still officially tested before competing.

Congratulations Thiam the greatest heptathlete of all time on her third Olympic gold medal.

While I was gutted for KJT, I take my hate off to Thiam, amazing!

Pakistan winning their first Olympic medal since 1992 and first gold medal since 1984 was wonderful to see.

It made my friend very happy.

Interesting to watch Mills come in second to last after all his mouthing off about how he had it in the bag and was sabotaged by the French runner... who beat him in this race 5 positions ahead.

Didn't like his behaviour then it certainly didn't look like a "sabotage" at all, if anything it looked like Mills boxed himself in and tried to run the French man off the track to me. As much as I want Britain to win, wasn't really championing him on in that final race.
