Ugh, I get cancer is a subject we can always raise more awareness on and it's something that affects so many people and families but it just seems constant in EE between Jean, Lola, Alfie, Sam and now Denise? If they wanted to go down the health route I'm sure they could have picked something else 😞

I agree i think there are other illnesses they should instead.

Nuggets epilepsy storyline deserves more focus imo, even when they showed it through Nancy it just seems to be "oh random seizure" but there's so much more to it than that

Idk I'm still finding it difficult to keep interested in

It does feel like we’ve had cancer overload of late. But it’s odd to start a new story off when they’ve just spent 6 months almost completely ignoring Sam’s cancer.

Agreed, it feels very odd they did that mostly off screen despite publicising that Sam would be back for a short time due to it, now she’s still here but they’ve brushed it under the carpet? It’s like they’re making up for botching that, particularly as they’ve now got this friendship between Sam and Denise, they could have just given Sam and the story the respect they should have had in the first place.

Agree with that as well, especially when Sam's story linked back to Peggy and could highlight the genetic type of breast cancer. I am enjoying the friendship between her and Denise but they definitely didn't need to give them matching cancer diagnosis' for them to form a bond

I'm guessing that Sam was meant to leave a couple of months ago, then she suddenly decided to stay (presumably coinciding with Ross Kemp signing up for a stint as Grant). Would explain the random Sam scenes dropped into episodes too the last 6 weeks or so.

I know Denise wasn’t in the flashforward, but she was pretty much mentioned alive wasn’t she? I’m sure Jack referenced her leaving the house and Libby was looking for her when she saw her phone ringing wasn’t she?

Does suggest that Libby might not be actually back for a wedding and more to support her mum.

But wouldn’t seeing Denise with cancer in the flashforward actually have been a good idea? I’m not sure what the point of an episode like that was if they’re afraid of spoiler details like that.

Yeah they referred to her in the present tense and Libby asked where she is, I don’t think Libby would stick around if she’s dead either.

The way the poverty and GCSE Denise saga wasn’t in the collection of episodes for Diane Parish’s 20th anniversary is shameful x

That was such a wild era for the show. They finally decided to make Denise the leading lady but being the leading lady back then was, well, not exactly a golden opportunity. Diane Parrish did her very best as always but the stories were ludicrous. It was hard to watch her journey to get one simple GCSE whilst younger characters were sitting many, many more. And I always hate plots where characters are too proud to accept help-it’s so cliche. Denise was being put in ridiculous situations just so that she could eat out of a bin. Her sister had lots of money and Patrick was around so it wasn’t like she had no one.
