Not a fan but that’s four female leaders now and various ethnicities. Labour have only ever had white men. Nevertheless I have to agree she is very culture war focused and that seems dated at this point

Only neolibs care about identity polirics, as they have no policy for anyone who's not stinking rich!

Conservatives also tend to have four leaders in the same timeframe it takes Labour to have one.

Badenoch will be awful but likely ineffectual so good stuff.

 Did make me laugh!

I assume we gloss over the fact that Rachel Reeves is the first Chancellor of the Exchequer in its 800 year history?

Β

I think regardless of which party is in government we'll see a lot of firsts/a lot more diversity within cabinets due to the evolving nature of the UK population. As well as barriers being broken down in general (although annoyingly still present).

Bad Enoch.

Β

At least she doesn't really have any power. I'd be more worried if we still had a Tory government and someone who has been even more "woke bad" than recent PMs ends up there.

I mean quite. The whole 'first X' thing is such a spurious and irrelevant criticism to level at Labour, it matters far more what each politician will do for each community now it's quite clear that anyone can make it to the top. Badenoch isn't going to have favourable policies for working class communities, many of whom are minorities.

Β

Maybe some 'Bad enough' puns for the Tory thread title on Buzzjack?

Β

I'm funnier than that. I'll put one up though soonish.

In July I thought the winner of the Tory leadership contest had a 50% chance of leading the Tories into the next election. I give Bad Enoch a 20% chance.

It's been really refreshing not having to care about this. (Not yet anyway. If we go into the next election with a realistic chance of Badenoch becoming PM then I'll retroactively care a lot).

Β

How the hell was Robert Jenrick one of the top 2?

Robert Jenrick has all the vile hallmarks that appeal to the core party supporters.

Β

Kemi Badenoch is obviously vile, but she's A) not exactly a formidable public speaker and B ) actually quite weak so I'm not too worried about her making inroads.

Yeah, not concerned about this one bit. I'd say will push more people to vote for Reform though - can't see the Centrists/moderates deciding in their droves to vote for Badenoch. Can't wait for her first gaff as Leader of the Opposition.
She will move to the centre now she’s leader imo or whatever position it takes to get elected, tories are ruthless that way especially following a tax rising Labour budget :D
