Posted July 31, 2024Jul 31 This is absolutely devastating and one of the hardest stories I have ever had to read, from the news. I think we should have a separate thread in here to discuss how the far right have basically boycotted the events and turned it into a race-hate fuelled agenda and taken away the spotlight on what should have been all about those children who were injured and lost their lives. To catch people up on this story (copy and pasting from the thread in Taylor's forum - I want to keep that as more sympathetic and empathetic towards the victims and use this thread as a general thread for everything to do with it): Three people have died and another ten have been injured after a mass stabbing at a Taylor Swift dance party at The Hart Space in Southport, Merseyside. The three people that have been killed are girls aged 6, 7 and 9. The 6 and 7-year-olds died the day of the attack (29th July), and the 9-year-old girl died in hospital the day after the attack. Most of the victims are children, whilst the other two that were stabbed are adults. The alleged attacker, a 17-year-old boy that is originally from Cardiff, is currently in police custody on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. July 31, 2024Jul 31 How does the law work then, as soon as he turns 18 is he then allowed to be named or does he remain anonymous forever now as he was 17 at the time of the crime? Could be a few months either side of his birthday and suddenly you get protection? Unbelievable logic. Anyway this is an atrocity beyond deception and I imagine the attacker was influenced by that Annecy attack last year.

Not naming this guy and being fully open about what motivated him or what issues he had led to anyone believing their own theories and partly why this kind of response happened. Who cares about someone’s age when they commit a crime like that. Full info has to be available. I’m sure it was some kind of mental guy but it’s still unusual for a the most severe mental person to target children like this so it could be a combination of things but the authorities believe silence helps which it clearly doesn’t.

Given the seriousness of this crime, I suspect the name will be made public immediately after any conviction. The right-wing protesters are showing a complete lack of respect for the poor families who have each lost a young child. I can’t help wondering whether some loon just made up a name and background as a deliberately provocative act.

July 31, 2024Jul 31 This is such a horrific and terrifying tragedy. Incidents like this are almost not comprehendible for me, it is truly shocking. RIP </3 The fact that disrespectful far-right lunatics (such as the EDL) came out in their swarms immediately targeting mosques, muslims and the police sickens me to my bones. The state of this country is causing some concern for me, especially with the mass gatherings in support of Tommy Robinson a few days ago and the rise of Reform etc. Another terrible outcome is that the EDL will no doubt be pleased, they have achieved their agenda of getting nation-wide attention regrettably.
July 31, 2024Jul 31 Utterly tragic case and intensely worrying that misinformation is rife - I've noticed a lot of online discussion spaces have seen a huge influx of clearly racist people or bad actors pretending to be clearly racist people and it's exactly those that have been spreading the misinformation, like that fake name that went around, that has led to violence. labour wanting the voting age to be 16 yet at 17 this murderer is “too young” to be named is absolutely vile I don't see what the first part of the sentence has to do with the second. He probably will be named in due course anyway due to the intense public interest in the case much like the murderers of Brianna Ghey, but those are completely separate laws.

My heart goes out to those poor children, the other injured children and all those people who will bare the mental scares of what they witnessed for the rest of their lives, especially the organiser of the class. I really hope she’s supported and pulls through. The left were so desperate for this to not be an immigrant and the right were so desperate for it to be an immigrant. It’s absolutely abhorrent how the extreme right have peddled this to fit their agendas. The melts were complaining about police officers being attacked last week, now they’re doing the same things, absolute melts. Bunch of disgusting yobs, egged on by the softer political side of Reform but it’s a lesson that to combat this wave, there’s going to have to be a lot of working with each other even if political ideologies differ slightly! The misinformation seems to have been peddled by Russian bots.. all very worrying. Furthermore how has that state Lennon-Yaxley started getting funding again? Didn’t hear a peep for years and now he’s all over the shop. Absolute arse of a human being that bloke.

August 1, 2024Aug 1 This is truly awful, there aren't really words to describe how tragic incidents like this are. People will use anything as an excuse to fuel their hate agenda. I'm sure I read that his parents were from Rwanda and most likely devout Christians but even if he was Muslim, that doesn't give people the right to terrorise a community, one person's actions doesn't speak for the majority, it's just extreme ignorance to believe otherwise. Race or religion has nothing to do with it. This country has a massive racism problem that we've barely scratched the surface of addressing. If people want to fight back against something in light of this it should be the fact they're hiding his identity or that he'll be tried as a child. The consequences should match the crime imo, if you're going to commit murder then you should be dealt the maximum penalty regardless of age. They should be finding out if there was a reason for him doing it and addressing the problem there (if it's mental health related for example) so there's less chance of it happening again. Theres obviously a reason why he decided to target young Taylor Swift fans. In saying that, I do think they probably will release his name once he's been convicted, isn't that what they did with Brianna Ghey's murderers?
