Queen of cassettes!

Pretty good showing for the album considering it was only released as one cassette, the first time BMG hasn't released multiple cassettes.

Minogue is only the third female solo artist to have 10 or more No.1 albums, joining Madonna and Taylor Swift; the third artist not from the UK or USA to achieve the feat, joining ABBA and U2; and, at 56, the third oldest female solo artist to have a No.1 album with new material – Barbra Streisand, 74 when she topped with Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway in 2016; and Shania Twain, who was 57 when she reached No.1 last year with Queen Of Me are the others – doing so in the week her sister Dannii turns 53. Despite its impressive start, Tension’s overall consumption so far is 96,532 units putting it far behind Minogue’s debut album, Kylie, which remains her biggest seller with to-date sales of 2,142,128, with 2002 release Fever (1,752,093) in second place. Tension II is also No.1 in Minogue’s native Australia, becoming her ninth chart-topper there – all since 2000.

Very interesting to know 'Kylie' and 'Fever' are shifting pretty much the same amount each week! Between the release of 'Tension' and 'Tension II' (56 weeks), 'Kylie' sold 7,667 (137 per week) and 'Fever' sold 7,722 (138 per week). Bare in mind that 'Kylie' sold just 28,763 between November 2006 and October 2023! The 35th anniversary vinyl must still be having a real impact. 'Fever' is on track to reach 6x Platinum in... June 2031!

Found this on UKMIX:

Kylie final week of the year charts and total sales update:

➡️ 83 (RE) Santa Baby (12,642 copies). Total: 936,005

➡️ 219 (RE) Kylie Christmas (1,236 copies). Total: 175,032

Santa Baby will be Kylie’s next million-selling single

Thank you!

I'm guessing Kylie Christmas is taken from the albums Top 250 that also includes compilation albums (but isn't published by OCC). But it's hard to say whether #219 is its position within that chart, or if it is its theoretical position with the compilations extracted.

We got a total of 839k for 'Santa Baby' the w/e 28th December 2023. It shifted 13.5k the following week on ACR, so ~27k overall, so ~866k total to the end of 2023 and ~70k shifted in 2024. Could just scrape 1m on the last week of 2025!

Just 4k sold in 2024 for 'Kylie Christmas' though.

Been looking at the previous known total sales for Kylie's singles and I think we could get a few new certifications this year:

Spinning Around: Platinum

Kids: Gold

Slow: Silver

All the Lovers: Platinum

Padam Padam: Platinum

Tension: Silver

Potentially add 'Where the Wild Roses Grow', '2 Hearts' and 'Say Something' for Silver as well. 'The Locomotion' too for sales of 200k in the download/streaming era as it wasn't originally certified back in the 80s.

It be great if all these happened this year, Padam Padam is likely the first to get across the line.

'Slow' for silver has been such an achingly long time coming :drama:

(If it indeed happens)

It certainly lives up to its name! I do think it'll be this year though - if it is certified this Friday, it has averaged 161 chart sales since July 2019; if it's certified the last chart week of the 2025, it'll have averaged 137 chart sales. I estimate it to be shifting somewhere between 150-200 currently so hopefully it'll be certified any day now!

Big drop off for Santa Baby but at least it’s still progressing at a fair rate.

Never knew there was a top 250. Kylie Christmas having a quiet year but still better than many of her previous albums manage over the year.

Queen of cassette sales - they seriously overproduced EFY as it appears yearly  I guess they didn’t want to get caught out on the nostalgia buying if the last show and Kylie and Jason’s return really made it take off though.

#8 Tension II

I certainly hope we get to see all those certifications happen in 2025 *.*

I've lost track with Kiss Me Once, is there a chance of Gold this year?

Side note: the Platinum certification of Especially for You last summer is still confusing!

20+ years for Slow to be certified is crazy, especially considering it was a #1 single, it’s a fan favourite and Slow has been performed at basically every Kylie tour/gig since it was released and received promo performances during Kylie’s most recent Greatest Hits.

2025 surely has to be the year!

It was at 90,884 units in October 2020, up from 89,185 units in July 2019. That puts it at around 27 units weekly, which means it should have sold ~6,700 units since 2020. Its total now should be around 97,600 units. It might be a little higher or lower than that, but I can't see it going gold before next summer at the earliest. Had we gotten a tenth anniversary vinyl or something along the lines, gold would've been a done deal last year.

Kiss Me Once is closer to gold than I thought and while I'm not a huge fan of it it's good that it should go gold next year.

Tension will be there soon so that only leaves Let's Get To It, Impossible Princess and Tension 2 of her studio albums not to go gold and hard to know if they ever will, Tension 2 of those 3 might have a greater chance than the other 2 as it will gain more on streaming.
