Today marks 30 years since the release of ‘Confide in Me’! Her first single with Deconstruction Records, ‘Confide in Me’ was a radical reinvention for Kylie as she experimented with trip-hop and Middle Eastern instrumentation. The song received universal critical acclaim and worldwide commercial success, including peaks of #2 in the UK and #1 in Australia - her first number one since ‘Got to Be Certain’.

What a moment - still remember watching it on Saturday morning TV as the ‘exclusive’ first play.

It was perfect timing too as a lot of the OG Kylie fans were in their teens/late teens so totally the right time to change her sound.

Not a huge fan of K94 but CIM is still one of my Top 5 Kylie songs - absolutely loved the follow up too.

One of her best for sure!!!

Happy memories of buying CD1, then 2 in the cardboard sleeves and my ex bought me a giant poster of the image above!

Remember the ITV chartshow countdown and panicking it hadn’t made the top40. In at 2, what a comeback. Damn Wet Wet Wet, stopped her AGAIN!

Confide in me was an iconic moment. In some ways, it was a very risky release as it was such a change to her PWL music. It’s up there with being one of her best tracks and one of her most underrated no2s.

A masterpiece for sure

I was a bit too young to follow the release of it, was the general feeling it did better than expected or was it considered a serious contender for #1?

Oh gosh I could go on for days about this one. Absolute classic. Ground breaking. As someone described it once - the best James Bond theme song that Madonna never recorded.

We didn’t have social media those days, so all I know is that Kylie went dark for nearly 2 years. And out of the blue, we see her perform and exclusive on top of the pops – brand new style, dress, and sound. All I can remember, thinking was wow, and I still feel that way 30 years later, every time I hear the song.

It received great reviews and was blocked by wet, wet, wet “love is all around“. I don’t know if it was a serious contender for number one, I can’t remember what the gap was between number one and number two. But, I think in 1994, whilst she was trying to establish herself as a dance artist., There’s still was that issue of having a bridge in the fan base. So regardless of the Meagher of this song, I don’t know if a song could’ve been a number one hit in 1994.

As much as i have said its not my fave Kylie song i will always say at the time it was a real wake up moment as i think most saw kylie in a completely different way, there is no doubt the release was perfect for what kylie wanted to achieve to move away from what she had created with SAW.

I will admit while it will never be in my top end Kylie songs, it slowly each year moves up a little for me, there are odd occasions when i hear it and i really really get into it but it is without doubt one of kylies most important releases of her career.

This was Drip Drip Drip's 15th and final week at #1!

She wasnt even close, she was closer to losing the number 2 than achieving the number 1 but then again Kylie was always very prone to number 2 hits.

As i see that top 10 i bought every one of those physicals at different times apart from regulate.

It actually increase in sales the following week as well, I think the second CD was released in week two:

1- SATURDAY NIGHT- Whigfield (149,000)

2- LOVE IS ALL AROUND- Wet, wet, wet (100,000)

3- ENDLESS LOVE- Mariah Carey & Luther Vandross (68,000)

4- CONFIDE IN ME- Kylie Minogue (61,000)

5- RHYTHM OF THE NIGHT- Corona (49,000)

6- I’LL MAKE LOVE TO YOU- Boyz II Men (43,000)

7- 7 SECONDS- Youssou N’Dour Ft Neneh Cherry (36,000)

8- COMPLIMENTS ON YOUR KISS- Red Dragon Ft Brian & Tony Gold (24,000)

9- WHAT’S THE FREQUENCY KENNETH- R.E.M (23,000)

10- INCREDIBLE- M Beat Ft General Levy (19,000)

^ Wet Wet Wet increasing from 65k to 100k! :drama: That was unfortunate for Mariah and Luther, possibly a #1 for them if they'd released it a week earlier (assuming they were still able to sell 68k a week earlier).

Back to Kylie: I have to admit that Confide in Me isn't one of my ultimate Kylie favourites, but nevertheless I do like it - and I can appreciate how bold the song must have seemed to the public, following on from the PWL era! Sadly a bit of a fluke for her in regards to the Deconstruction era, given that no other singles went Top 10 in the UK! (Although Put Yourself in My Place did reasonably well as a #11 peak... stayed in the Top 40 for 7 weeks, whereas Confide in Me managed 6).

I have a feeling there might have been increase in demand with the announcement the single was due to be deleted around this point, although don't quote me 100%!

Yeah I believe this was the case! Still impressive given how much it had already sold.

Such a great song. I was 6 when it was released, so I have little memory of it at the time. I really love it though.

Such a different time! Funny to think of a label making a decision to force a single to stop selling, before demand had naturally decreased.

The Confide in Me video is definitely one of Kylie's most striking visuals :cheeseblock:
