September 3, 2024Sep 3 I also try not to look it up, especially some contests like the album cover one
September 3, 2024Sep 3 I have to admit, for things like Pointless I will look up what valid options are as I've always assumed that's within the rules. Apologies if most people don't do this, I guess it doesn't make for a very level playing field then  For album covers type quizzes, I'll look up albums based on artists I think it could be, as again I've always assumed that's allowed!
September 3, 2024Sep 3 I remember a couple of quizzes on here a long time ago where the host specifically stated it was a no-google Family Fortunes (obviously that can't be vetted but still) however in general I don't see the issue if people want to play one way or the other. Certainly with Pointless even with Google that's not necessarily a path to winning as you still need to second guess everyone else. And even then I used Google in this edition and still got a wrong answer due to my inability to read a question carefully
September 3, 2024Sep 3 I think use of internet is allowed unless the host says otherwise. Clearly there are types of internet use that are cheating such as using some sort of image match software for the album cover quiz or Shazam for a listening quiz, but beyond that I think it’s understood that if you want to be really competitive you’re quite likely to need to do a bit of work. That doesn’t mean doing a quick entry off the top of your head is less valid though, and all participation is great!

I thought I knew how to award points in this round, but I am going back on one of my earlier statements. The official colours of the rainbow, confirmed by the MET office, are: RED, ORANGE, YELLOW, GREEN, BLUE, INDIGO and VIOLET. I advised someone I would accept Purple as a colour, but nobody sent this colour. However, someone did send PINK which is not a colour of the rainbow so I had to decline this answer. I also previously said I would not accept plurals, but in this instance I have changed my mind and accepted them in one answer given by a couple of participants. I apologise for changing my view, but I should have more carefully considered this question in it's entirety before advising. On our next question we will look at the resurgence of some well loved Christmas hits.
September 3, 2024Sep 3 Woop woop And yes, that is the only eligible answer to this question in UK chart history with the word 'Orange' in (and only two more that made the top 40!).

In fact, I only listed the ones from the last year's Top 100 that would have been acceptable, but going back over the last 10 years I am sure there would be many more examples of Christmas songs that achieved a new chart peak in that time. Elton John was the most common answer given to this question, and five people found pointless answers here. Sadly Bruce Springsteen and The Pogues have not achieved new chart peaks in the last 10 years with their respective songs. jojo89 is still out leader but his points deficit has reached much closer to those behind him, so it is still all to play for.
September 3, 2024Sep 3 YAY got a pointless, I may have actually whooped out loud when I saw it!
September 3, 2024Sep 3 AS IF Mariah Carey was a POINTLESS answer ffs it was the FIRST one I thought of and dismissed straight away!
September 3, 2024Sep 3 Happy to get at least one pointless answer! Again assumed Mariah would’ve been a high pointer here so went for Elton  but happy it was at least correct. Kelly and Ariana come to mind as well but panicked and chose something significantly older than ten years to at least be in the time frame. (It’s funny in a sense that playing this like family fortunes could’ve done me better here as it seems the obvious picks are doing the best for the game  ). Edited September 3, 2024Sep 3 by Jordanlee1402
September 3, 2024Sep 3 gah sorry Rich, still no pointless! I did consider going for something that peaked in the low Top 100, then was planning to go for Burl Ives, but changed my mind by the time I sent my answers!
September 3, 2024Sep 3 As if Mariah is a pointless lmao. Did swerve and not go for the obvious Buble new peaker though. At least climbing up a tad but not too much further. Also Wizzard have a 4 peak in 1974 unless your counting the streaming/download era Wardy?
September 3, 2024Sep 3 Two pointless answers in a row :o Was happy with just one, and very pleased that I decided to go with Mariah over Wham out of the incredibly obvious options
September 3, 2024Sep 3 Author Also Wizzard have a 4 peak in 1974 unless your counting the streaming/download era Wardy? Oh yes, I must have missed that when I checked. Will remove from the available options.
