Posted September 20, 2024Sep 20 As the old thread was 61 pages….! I got Jamie xx - In Waves deluxe edition today. Also in the HMV sale, Corrs - Forgiven, Not Forgotten (reduced from £38 to £18) and the Batman Forever soundtrack (reduced from £44 to £22!).
September 20, 2024Sep 20 I too got the deluxe Jamie xx today... and am currently trying really hard not to succumb to the national album day release of Utah Saints
October 14, 2024Oct 14 5 days until National Album Day, are there any titles you guys are interested in? https://www.nationalalbumday.co.uk/news/nat...y-19th-october/ For me it's Sugababes, All Saints and Take That. Although I'm not sure if I'd buy them all right away... I could see them becoming cheaper in a few weeks / months.
October 14, 2024Oct 14 Although tbh I’m most surprised that Jay isn’t wanting to finally pick up a copy the Spice Girls’ debut
October 16, 2024Oct 16 Although tbh I’m most surprised that Jay isn’t wanting to finally pick up a copy the Spice Girls’ debut  :kink: !!! maybe eventually if it becomes really cheap
November 24, 2024Nov 24 Managed to bag Utah Saints new from eBay for £22 - very happy with that as it’s by far the cheapest I’ve seen it so far. Was just looking at the list for Black Friday and it’s pretty awful, nothing I’m even vaguely interested in.
November 24, 2024Nov 24 I got the Sugababes from record day, and I’ve just preordered a signed copy of Dagny‘s Elle album. But I’ve been otherwise really good this year and not bought too much
December 4, 2024Dec 4 What are the oldest vinyl releases you own? For me it's a copy of Madonna's True Blue that is a pressing from 1986, its release year. These albums in my collection are 15 years to 38 years old: 1986 - Madonna - True Blue {second hand} 1997 - Spice Girls - Spice (USA variant of 1996 album) {second hand} 1997 - Spice Girls - Spiceworld {second hand} 2003 - Emma Bunton - Free Me {second hand} 2006 - Madonna - Confessions on a Dance Floor (European variant of 2005 album) 2008 - Janet Jackson - Discipline 2009 - Katy Perry - One of the Boys (USA, first pressing of 2008 album) 2008 - Lady Gaga - The Fame 2009 - Lady Gaga - The Fame Monster Picture Disc {second hand} Any other vinyl albums I own that were originally released in the 80s, 90s and 00s are pressings from the 2010s or 2020s (either reissues or "first time on vinyl" releases)! I'm only taking into account vinyl I bought for myself, not my parents' collection - they have a lot of releases they bought in the 70s and 80s. As for singles, I bought second hand copies of almost all of Kylie's 1988-1992 releases, so they're the oldest vinyl singles I own!
December 4, 2024Dec 4 I have many original 80s album from when I was a kid, first ones I bought were Madonna-Like a virgin and The First Album, A-ha-Scoudrel days, Status Quo-In the army now :D lol why did I buy that one :D and then from 87-88 I have many more, Whitney, Jacko-Bad, Bangles-Everything, Cyndi Lauper, Debbie Gibsonx2, Tiffany, Kylie, Jason :D I also have albums from my parents even some original Beatles singles
December 4, 2024Dec 4 🤩 Did you manage to keep some of them in a good condition after all this time? From looking at eBay over the years, I get the sense that vinyl purchases in the 20th century weren't often treated as though they were precious items, so people weren't as fussed about keeping the covers pristine. I found it quite a challenge to track down reasonable looking Kylie singles, and in some cases I had to accept that some were a bit dog-eared/creased etc. :o I suppose back then because it was the main source of music listening, with constant handling and playing, they were more likely to get wear and tear. Despite the fact that I've amassed quite a large vinyl collection, I don't play them as often as I probably should do to have justified getting them! :kink: So pretty much everything is in excellent condition (bar the odd one or two that arrived with a bit of damage and I couldn't be bothered to try and replace).
December 4, 2024Dec 4 I hear you, mostly they're F(air) or G(ood) quality at most. Bit I did play them a lot. I also think the cardboard they used to make the album package back then was more thin and less resistant, that's why there's more tear and wear than now. Nowadays they're pretty strong, I was looking at my Lana vinyls yesterday and they are really thick and they weigh a ton. The packages from the 80s were half of that. And singles were even worse, they were paper thin. I've also been collecting singles, cos I had many Madonna singles and been trying to slowly getting more, but yes the quality is not even F but yes, that's what it is and one has to accept it.
December 4, 2024Dec 4 The first singles and albums I had as a kid were on vinyl so I do still have some from the very late 80s and early 90s. I haven't kept everything over the years but I've still got an original Like a Prayer album from 1989 and of course the London Boys(!) so that's the oldest I've collected myself. I do also have some of my parents' records so I have some Bowie, Joni Mitchell, Beatles etc that are clearly substantially older
December 4, 2024Dec 4 My earliest would be a copy of The Beatles - Please Please Me from the time of release (1963). My grandparents both held on to their copies and gave me one of their combined duplicates
December 4, 2024Dec 4 I picked up Hits 6 on vinyl the other day for £5, as it’s chart stuff from the period I was born, including Starship and Madonna - the top two the day I was born, and it looks almost brand new. Most secondhand stuff I pick up is so tatty, so this must have been looked after very carefully. Edited December 4, 2024Dec 4 by gooddelta
December 16, 2024Dec 16 this has really been a dream come true. One of my fav singer songwriters Lisa Hannigan released her debut album Sea Sew back in 2006 and I did buy her CD but back then I didn't own a vinyl player so I passed on that although I did debate about buying it. In the end I passed and deeply regretted it cos for the last 20 years I've been unsuccessfully searching for that vinyl. it was a very limited edition but still now and then some popped up on discogs or ebay but always at crazy unrealistic prices of like 1000 pounds so never got it. until this week!! Lisa has finally re-issued her album on vinyl and just arrived and it's just fantastic. Only took me 20 years :D
December 17, 2024Dec 17 Gosh I haven't thought about that album in a very long time. I too bought it off the back of loving her with Damien, but I can't recall much about the album now tbh. Glad you've got it though, it's always nice to manage to bag something you want that much ^_^
December 18, 2024Dec 18 Its a fabulous album Always been a Lisa fan Even flew to Dublin the other week to see her live Shes reissued all her albums on vinyl now Which is great cos people were selling them for outraging prices on discogs Like 1000 pounds for her debut
December 19, 2024Dec 19 I doubt I'll buy any more vinyl this year... so here's my 2024 list! :D Someone on Popjustice had the idea of making their post a bit like a "Spotify Wrapped" with some stats. So if you know anything in particular about your collecting habits this year, such as favourite purchases, any bargains - feel free to share! --------------- Albums (26) 5 Seconds of Summer - The Feeling of Falling Upwards (Live from the Royal Albert Hall) [Europe: 2x12" - Black] (2023) Ariana Grande - eternal sunshine [Worldwide: 2x12" - Red / "Exclusive Cover No. 3"] (2024) Chappell Roan - The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess [Europe: 2x12" - Coral "My Kink Is Coral"] (2024) {Reissue/new version of 2023 album} Charli xcx - Brat and it's completely different but also still brat [Worldwide: 3x12" - Clear "Milky Clear"] (2024) Claire Richards - My Wildest Dreams [uK/Europe: 12" - Pink] (2024) {First pressing of 2019 album} Conan Gray - Found Heaven [Europe: 12" - Blue Translucent "Teardrop"] (2024) Emma Bunton - A Girl Like Me [Europe: 12" - Pink "Baby Pink"] (2024) {First pressing of 2001 album} Gina G - Fresh! At least I was, but then I embarked on the task of finding out how much money I have spent to get those 46 items. 3 albums were gifts from friends, thank you to them! (those albums being: Tension II, Body Language and Shawn colour vinyl). Ultimately I spent: £686 on 23 albums and £271 on 20 singles - a total spend of £957. Eeeek! For some reason the expenditure on singles feels worse to me than the albums. Then it leads me to thinking that this is before taking into account CDs, cassettes, merch... :drama: I think for my own sake I won't work that out!! Most expensive albums: £66.49 - Charli xcx £55.53 - Madonna £41.81 - Chappell Roan Most expensive singles: £28.00 - Steps [Record Store Day is so scandalous...! I'm sure I could have waited, but I had FOMO] £27.71 - The Blessed Madonna/Kylie Minogue [£7.71 was postage... it's rather rare though, so no regrets!] Cheapest albums: £16.99 - Steps (Buzz) £14.99 - 5 Seconds of Summer £14.85 - Claire Richards Cheapest singles: Both of the Dua Lipa singles. I bought them in bundles with CDs and Cassettes, so the postage charge was spread out across many items. Training Season was only £4.99, Illusion was £7.99, and even with postage charges they still came to under £10 each. None of the other singles I bought this year cost less than £10 with postage. Bargains... the one that stands out to me is Mariah Carey's Music Box 30th anniversary on 4xLP. It cost £34.53, which is about half of its RRP of £69.99. It's a lovely item so I was very pleased to nab it for that price! I was pleased that Steps finally released their first 3 albums on vinyl this year, and that Girls Aloud continued their reissue campaign with their second album. I think my favourite vinyl packaging has to be Taylor Swift - The Tortured Poets Department. It's very high quality, includes an attached booklet... it just feels very fancy!
