Absolutely expected the DNQ all week despite being given some hope from the predictions, I thought there were just so few people in the semi who my song would have any chance of appealing to - as it were in the end I was only 1 point away from qualifying so the predictions were not wildly off but I really can't complain at not qualifying when I couldn't even muster 30 points, that is a crazy low bar for qualification. I do wonder if Hinterlandia might have saved me but alas x I'm not confident I'd have qualified from semi 2 either as I think my song would have stood out less there, nevermind, I still think it was a worthwhile song to take a punt on.

 

I've now been on the 20th/21st divide three times this year and unfortunately been on the losing end of that two out of three times (and the time I did scrape in last month was only because another song got a deduction) - if my last 2 DNQs each only got 1 more point in their semis I'd still have a 100% qualification record this year, as Die Nerven would have won a tiebreak with the song in 20th while Crushes Bones went out on a tiebreak :drama:

 

Shame to see Dobago out too as that one grew on me a lot on second listen and ended up getting 4 points from me. Wholune was not far off my top 10 of semi 2 as well, Sports Team are a bit better than I tend to give them credit for really.

 

On a more positive note though that last set of qualifiers is mostly very good - fab to see Land of DW defying the pop semi to qualify (it was too much of a banger to deny x) and also really enjoyed this Hendinia entry, wild that a song that sounds like that is coming from Victoria of Måneskin but the pivot has worked shockingly well *.* + yasss at Sovarasma making it in, another great leftfield pick with the bonus of inspiring me to learn about Cantonese romanisation. And pleased to see Ben's Sanctuary through too, definitely one of their best entries for me.

30 points does actually match the all time record for lowest points to qualify btw - previously set by Big Big Train's 'Proper Jack Froster' (Rolloland 142). Notably that was in a semi that only had 25 voters compared to this one having 28!

 

(the next lowest after those two is a jump up to 34 interestingly)

Eastovka's was a very unique song even without the Weird Al quirk, wasn't one I expected through though sadly. On the other hand, I did expect Thelonia would qualify and I'm sad as it just missed my votes (and I heard it on 6Music literally the day after the listenthrough! Spooky x), though admittedly both artists have had better.

You've had 10 in a row twice in BJSCs 24-33 and 122-131 (although the former is mostly covering the One Big Final era, only 3 of those 10 had to actually go through a semi). The latter run funnily enough is one of the previous runs of 10 qualifiers in a row with none of them making the top 10 as Jim has alluded to a few times recently :magic:
