Biography

Sam Fender crafts the kind of tenacious anthemic rock that punches straight at the gut. Born and raised in 1994 in the northeastern English town of North Shields, the singer/songwriter first picked up a guitar at age 10 and began playing gigs locally as a teen to help support him and his mother. But it wasn’t until he started writing music for himself—rather than what he thought others wanted to hear—that everything started to click. That’s when he wrote his 2017 debut single, “Play God”, a propulsive, politically charged slice of indie rock. It came from a place of deep desperation, “a time where I was like, ‘I need to prove myself. I need to do something that cuts through,’” he told Apple Music. The track earned him a slot on BBC’s Sound of 2018 shortlist, which led to a deal with Polydor Records and the release of his acclaimed 2019 debut, Hypersonic Missiles, an album that channels modern-day anxiety through heartfelt heartland rock. His 2021 follow-up, Seventeen Going Under, hit even harder, pumped full of soaring arrangements and bold statements that continue to prove Fender’s power as a mighty millennial voice for the working class. - Apple Music

Biography

Born in 1990 in the small Irish town of Bray, Andrew John Hozier-Byrne—better known as Hozier—was first heard in the company of others, contributing his preternaturally powerful voice to Ireland’s renowned Trinity Orchestra and the choral troupe Anúna. But where those early pursuits immersed him in his country’s rich musical traditions, his first single as a solo artist took aim at its most formidable institution. Few debut tracks come out swinging as hard as “Take Me to Church,” a doomy anti-gospel sermon that set its crosshairs on the hectoring and hypocrisies of the Catholic Church, delivered in a commanding, corrupted-choir-boy voice imbued with equal doses of grace and grit. That striking single topped charts around the world and scored Hozier a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year, but the self-titled debut album it introduced also showcased a singer-songwriter with a deft command of sweet soulful rockers (“Someone New”) and dreamy folk reveries (“Like Real People Do”). The dichotomy between rage and romanticism would only become more pronounced on 2019’s Wasteland Baby!, where some of Hozier’s prettiest performances to date (like the delicate finger-picked hymn “Shrike”) rub up against the righteous fury of “Nina Cried Power,” a spirited, Mavis Staples-assisted protest anthem that takes Hozier back to church to further rattle the steeple. - Apple Music

I can't see it somehow, I don't see how it can get past Gracie let alone what else it may be up against by then.

Yeah, really depends on how both songs hold up. I don't really see anything else blowing up now until the xmas rush is out of the way, but we'll see.

New peaks and new entries outside the top 40:

53. John Williams - Carol Of The Bells (+46)

55. Juice WRLD - Empty Out Your Pockets (NEW)

72. Mark Ambor - Run Rudolph Run (NEW)

86. V & Park Hyo Shin - Winter Ahead (NEW)

87. Juice WRLD - Misfit (NEW)

88. Kesha - Holiday Road (NEW)

92. Ed Sheeran - Under The Tree (NEW)

I don't usually listen to the chart live, and hearing this production is a good reminder of why I don't. Cutting off songs halfway through and talking over them, ignoring playing some artists altogether, not even saying what No.15 was, replaying the start of Band Aid just now by mistake then just cutting it off and not even mentioning the 40th anniversary remix. Playing random crap from Gemma Collins and TikTok? Just play the chart. Is it always this hapless?

I've never really liked the Official Chart Show format at all always preferred it when it was the UK Top 40 on a Sunday

much more professional.

Wham has been defeated and looks good for next week too as the gap small on Spotify (and Wham is on ACR).

Leigh Francis is releasing a christmas single "Christmas Pigs" with guest stars on it.

Possible contender for xmas No.1

Mariah was 2 in last year's corresponding chart and today she only reaches number 5. Looks like everyone is finally starting to get bored of her this Christmas.

Most Christmas songs are down on last year, this isn't a Mariah thing exclusively

If the guests are Elvis and Michael Jackson then maybe it might have a chance

What is more telling is Mariah’s gaps to Wham! and Brenda.

Last year she was only 4k behind Wham! despite the much higher sales and 11k ahead of Brenda.

This year she’s 6k behind Wham! and only 5k ahead of Brenda

Hopefully it's a sign the nation is tiring of the song and we get different hits in future years,

Think Underneath The Tree will be the most popular Christmas song by the early 2030s.

Can't believe I'm saying this but g'won Gracie holding off the Christmas songs! Weird that they skipped both Laufey songs, isn't she in the live lounge later this month? Boo at The Days having a revival, one of the naffest songs on the chart right now.
Crazy it's nearly a decade since Heartbeat Song was her last top ten. Hope this finally makes it, definitely one of the best from the 10s, even if Santa Tell Me seems to have been the ultimate winner from the 2013 holy trinity of Kelly/Leona/Ariana.
'Santa Tell Me' was 2014!

Do they not have the Laufey songs?
Well, the new one was played today on First Look, so they do have at least one.
