For years I've found the Christmas #1 chart to be my least favourite of the year because of all the rubbish released aiming for Christmas #1, but always enjoyed the week after - until Alexa started ruining this chart too with their exclusives that no one wants to hear.

Wonder if gracie can actually do it and stay top 10 Friday, did stick season manage it

Stick Season was #10 on the equivalent week last year

Threshold for top 10 last year was 53k. Gracie did 49k this week so it'll be tight
Top 3 may elude Brenda for yet another year then. I guess we’re on for another battle at the top like Wham! vs Sam last year.
The dates are very different. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will wipe Gracie out
Tom’s song must be really catching on with the general public

It's doing exactly what the other Amazon exclusives have done for the most part

Not Alexa actually potentially having another #1 cos people are too lazy to skip songs or make their own Christmas playlists

though I expect Wham! will overtake soon enough thank god.

Oh great, what a waste of everyone's time these Amazon songs are every year

It wasn't for Ellie.

Official Charts Report

Tom Grennan couldn’t claim the Official Christmas Number 1 on last Friday’s chart, but could he still hit the top spot with It Can’t Be Christmas? He is in pole position on the Official Chart: First Look.

The Bedford-born singer-songwriter reached Number 4 last week with his Amazon Music Original track It Can’t Be Christmas, but is narrowly out in-front after this week’s first 48 hours of sales. Edging ahead of last week’s #XmasNo1, WHAM!’s Last Christmas, by less than 500 chart units, Tom’s lead is partly down to the release of a vinyl single of his holiday track on December 20th.

This week’s Number 1 will be crowned on December 27. While Tom can’t be Number 1 on Christmas Day, the tracking week features the big day itself, meaning streaming of festive favourites will be at its height. Can It Can’t Be Christmas continue its momentum, or will a Christmas classic take the throne?

Yuletide staples make up much of the midweek Top 5; WHAM!’s Last Christmas (2), Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You (3), and Brenda Lee’s Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree (5). Sandwiched between them is 2024’s other big festive Amazon Original – Christmas Magic by Laufey, up 15 positions following her performance on The Graham Norton Show (4).

Kelly Clarkson’s Underneath The Tree reached the Official Singles Chart Top 10 for the first time two weeks ago, ascending to Number 10. The modern Christmas standout sets its sights on another new high this week, up three to Number 8. Prior to a fortnight ago, the last time Kelly was in the UK Top 10 was March 2015 with Heartbeat Song, which peaked at Number 7.

Political protest track Freezing This Christmas by Sir Starmer and the Granny Harmers rises 24 places to Number 13 as the most-downloaded track of the week so far.

Finally, José Feliciano’s Feliz Navidad could enter the Top 20 for the first time ever, scaling two places to 19.

Actually applied for the Christmas takeover at Radio 1 in hopes of doing the chart of the year but didn't get on the radio sadly, someone else from my station did though. (guessing Gregor isn't on student radio) Making my own top 100 of the year show at home instead ^_^
