Biography

When Austin Post uploaded “White Iverson” to social media in early 2015, he was 19, scrounging for ramen and sleeping in a friend’s wardrobe. Plenty has changed, but Post’s appeal is more or less the same. No matter how platinum the records go, he still has the air of an ordinary guy, a Crocs-and-Bud-Light kid from the suburbs who stumbled backward into fame just by strumming what was in his heart. Post Malone (he let a rap name generator give him his alias) didn’t just look beyond genre; he broke it down, mixing the dark grandeur of trap with the anthemic release of classic rock and country. His signature tracks—“rockstar,” “Sunflower,” “Congratulations”—were both bleak and beautiful, spaced-out and mainstream, hip-hop but not quite. The bass boomed, the melodies soared and there was Post Malone in the middle, rap-singing his woes like a lonely prince self-exiled in the castle. At live shows, there were no dancers, no pyrotechnics, just Post, in a baggy football jersey with a cigarette in his hand, bringing 60,000 people into his bedroom: the pop star as moody teen. Born in 1995 in Syracuse, New York, and raised in the suburbs of Dallas, Post Malone grew up on a mix of country, classic rock, and rap: In one well-circulated anecdote, young Post would get called into the living room to entertain Dad and friends with the dance to Terror Squad’s “Lean Back.” He turned a love for the video game Guitar Hero into a love of actual guitar, playing in a metal band during school while also starting to explore hip-hop. “White Iverson” led to his 2016 debut album, Stoney; beerbongs & bentleys burrowed further into Post’s luxurious, messy melancholy, while 2019’s Hollywood’s Bleeding found him buttoning up and moving closer to the conventions of mainstream pop, all while retaining his peculiar touch. He only fortified his repertoire with Twelve Carat Toothache (2022) and AUSTIN (2023). Those projects saw him collaborate with songwriters like Max Martin and artists like Doja Cat and The Kid LAROI, with Post continuing to bring his idiosyncrasies to the mainstream. But his biggest about-face thus far may have come in 2024 when he turned toward country, first appearing on Beyoncé’s “LEVII’S JEANS” (from COWBOY CARTER), and then releasing his own F-1 Trillion, which featured Hank Williams, Jr., Tim McGraw, Morgan Wallen, and even Dolly Parton. - Apple Music

Biography

Above her strides as a multi-hyphenate star, few modern pop artists have worked as hard to put the culture and concerns of Black America in front of a broader audience as Beyoncé Knowles. Whether surveying civil rights (“Formation”), Black feminism (“***Flawless,” “Irreplaceable”), the collective pride of HBCU culture (HOMECOMING), Black LGBTQIA+ liberations of disco and house music (RENAISSANCE), or the reclamation of country music’s roots (COWBOY CARTER), Beyoncé’s work positions her as a first-rate musician and cultural archivist, one who knows the responsibility of uplifting the past while sowing seeds for the future. Entertainment, yes—but also a kind of ambassadorship. Born in 1981 and raised in Houston, she started singing and dancing as a child. (One teacher, Darlette Johnson, discovered she could sing when she started humming a song and Knowles finished it—a performance the shy Knowles wouldn’t reproduce until Johnson offered her a dollar.) In 1990, she joined Girl’s Tyme, which evolved into Destiny’s Child. Under the management of Knowles’ father, Mathew, they became one of the biggest forces in pop, blending the familiar comforts of the all-girl vocal group with notions of female empowerment, sisterhood, and a refreshingly contemporary mix of pop, R&B, and hip-hop (“Bills, Bills, Bills,” “Say My Name,” “Survivor,” “Soldier”). Her first solo feature was on a track by her future husband, rap phenom JAY-Z (“’03 Bonnie & Clyde”), marking the beginning of a fertile partnership and a point of enduring public fascination. From there, Knowles has been more or less unstoppable. As her fame has grown, her sound and approach have only gotten bolder, spawning intimate, relatively experimental albums like 2013’s BEYONCÉ and 2016’s Lemonade, alongside celebrations like the 2018 JAY-Z collaboration EVERYTHING IS LOVE (credited to THE CARTERS), 2022’s RENAISSANCE, which celebrated the liberated sound of Black queer disco and house, and 2024’s COWBOY CARTER, a sprawling homage to the often neglected roots of country music. It isn’t just the music—which has crisscrossed from dancehall to soul ballads to New Orleans bounce to the chopped-and-screwed sound of her native Houston to country and Americana—but also the figure she cuts in the culture. Here’s a woman who sang at a presidential inauguration (2009, the Obamas, Etta James’ “At Last”), revealed her pregnancy in front of an audience of millions (2011, the MTV Video Music Awards, “Love on Top”), and joined forces with the Chicks on a Nashville stage (2016, the CMA Awards, “Daddy Lessons”). She also joined ranks with Black Lives Matter (“Formation”), feminism (“***Flawless”), and LGBTQIA+ culture (“Break My Soul”) when her high-profile status had all but exempted her; who name-checked figures like Jean-Michel Basquiat, Audre Lorde, and Cornel West for people who might otherwise not have encountered them. Blurring the lines between genre and representation, Beyoncé’s brave leap into country music with 2024’s COWBOY CARTER unearthed its rich connection to Black music while carving out new sonic plateaus. She became the first Black woman to top the U.S. country chart with its smash lead single, “TEXAS HOLD ’EM,” sparking a surge of wide recognition for trailblazing Black female country artists like Tanner Adell and Linda Martell. It’s a testament to Beyoncé’s role as a pop star and cultural bearer—using her platform to elevate the marginalized and preserve Black history in the pop music sphere. - Apple Music

Biography

Cassö, a 22-year-old music producer based near London, began his journey in late 2022, inspired by UK rap and 90s house/techno. His early SoundCloud releases gained traction, paving the way for his breakout hit "Prada" with Raye & D-Block Europe. Initially uploaded on SoundCloud, the track exploded with over 5 million streams in weeks, going viral on TikTok and Instagram. By July 2023, Ministry of Sound signed Cassö, officially releasing "Prada," which climbed into top 5 charts across Europe, the UK and Australia. The track surpassed 1 billion streams, achieved UK Double Platinum, and earned a Brit Awards 2024 nomination for "Song of the Year." Cassö's momentum led to remixes for Calvin Harris and Tate McRae, as well as a David Guetta remix of "Prada." His follow-up single, "Zeros" featuring Jazzy and Headie One, surpassed 10 million streams. Cassö's electrifying DJ sets took him to 100+ shows in 19 countries, including Creamfields, World Cup Dome, Parookaville, Berlin's Watergate and Ibiza Rocks. In 2025, he plans to drop new music with major collaborations and embark on an Australasia tour followed by European festivals. - Spotify

Should've skipped this and played I Had Some Help. Booooo at this overtaking Beyonce

yay for MOTD, #16 is the least it deserves here.

'I Had Some Help' debuted on 1m+ Spotify streams, then missed #1 and left the Top 5 in week 2, yet it's still held around. A lot better than... 'Texas Hold 'Em' (unfortunately as it's a much better song) for one.

Who doesn't love a bit of 'Prada' :kink:

Here you go again

Yet the moment someone says something about your precious Gracie Abrams, you'll be crying like a baby.

Guessing I'm in the minority that likes both sabrina and gracie

Still love Prada despite the hate it gets.

Biography

The country world feigned surprise when, after three albums of Music Row-indebted songcraft, Taylor Swift formally embraced pop on 2012’s Red. But no one should have been shocked: Any 14-year-old capable of persuading her parents to move from suburban Pennsylvania to Nashville for her career clearly has ambition to burn. And the thrill of following Swift’s rise has been watching her execute it flawlessly, largely because her melodic intelligence is equal to that ambition. Her early, youthful love songs heralded 2010's newly self-possessed Speak Now—which showed off her scathing wit—and evolved into knowing, ironclad pop fare that held its own against boisterous Max Martin production on 1989, her fifth album, titled after her birth year. Throughout, her songwriting has blurred the lines between the public and private, burying enough real-life clues (about, say, scarves and Starbucks) to make clear that only Swift can own her narrative, thank you very much, while still retaining a lyrical elegance. Though 2017’s reputation might have been perceived as a gorgeously constructed piece of dramatic theater—its attendant heroes and villains all real-life characters from Swift's public feuds—all that spectacle proved an attention-grabbing cover for her most romantic album yet. She turned up the romance even more on 2019’s Lover, but it was 2020’s folklore and its companion, evermore—ruminative, relatively lo-fi albums written and recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic—that earned her the Apple Music Award for Songwriter of the Year. She followed those up in 2022 with Midnights, which she wrote and produced with Jack Antonoff, and described as "the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life." In 2023, Swift undertook one of the most ambitious road shows of all time: the multi-year Eras Tour, which saw her presenting new and classic material across more than 100 locales worldwide. It was just one of many reasons she was named Apple Music's Artist of the Year for 2023. Swift returned to the soft, comfortable, bed-like sonics of Midnights for her 11th album, 2024’s THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT. A study in extremes and heightened emotions, the record—which features guest turns from Post Malone and Florence + the Machine—is her most specific, candid, and unsparing work to date. - Apple Music

'Stargazing' is so so bland

and it's like it's trying to be an Avicii song but with everything that makes those great taken out of it which makes it even more annoying
