That's an interesting list! From Eva Cassidy & Katie Melua - What a Wonderful World onwards, they're all charity singles. So the last "normal" #1 (without an attachment to charity) to be uncertifi

Very pleased to see 'Slow' finally get passed the Silver mark. Strange it's taken so long, it's much more of a classic than its sales would suggest and doesn't deserve to be a part of this list of #1

Glad to see Seven Wonders going platinum when it flopped on release. The singles from Tango In The Night had a weird pattern of successs alternating between big hit and big flop:

9 - 56 - 5 - 54 - 4 - 60

The failure of ‘Seven Wonders’, the second single from the album, was bizarre - as it’s a great track. The 4th single ‘Family Man’ was a dud. But ‘Isn’t It Midnight’ - the last single – was also a brilliant song, but being the 6th release it was no surprise that it flopped.

Of course ‘Everywhere’ was destined to be a massive success, hence being the highest peak of all of the singles, despite being the 5th release - and as we now know, it is now one of the biggest selling singles of all time.

Yay for 'Oxytocin' being certified! My appreciation for it was reignited when seeing Billie live recently, glad it was still on the setlist for this tour.

'You Might Need Somebdoy' by Shola Ama had already been certified Silver back in 1997 so this is a duplicate certification by the BPI.

Sales back in 1997 were 343,860 (it was the 36th best selling single of the year) and I'm assuming the 200,000 sales needed for the duplicate certification are in addition to any sales from back then. In which case, the track will have passed Gold a while ago.

Fleetwood Mac, in my opinion, are more popular now than they were back then.

Most Definitely. I think it is partly the broader understanding of the dynamics of the band and people finally reaching out and exploring more than just "Rumours".

I think people can see now how songs like Silversprings, Seven wonders etc are a further exploration of the band as a whole and it's members as individuals. Concert footage from things like "the dance" show the interaction, especially between Stevie and Lindsay, is in complete attunement with the lyrics of many of the songs.

Its funny cos in the US the pattern was a bit different:

5 Big time

19 Seven wonders

4 Little Lies

14 Everywhere

90 Family man

Singles 4 and 5 were switched and Everywhere didnt do as well. Highest peaking was Little lies, imo the jewel of the album, never liked Everywhere

I heard that 7 wonders alluded to the 5 members of the band and 2 particular behind the scenes people who kept the band alive. I think they even alluded to it in the film clip, but it was more real then the fun they were making of it in the clip.

But they, Along with later years ABBA, were/are two bands that were never shy of laying it all on the line in their lyrics about what is going on internally

for what I recall, Seven wonders has nothing to do with the band

was written by this Stewart woman about a friend or son called Aaron that died, thats why the song was originally called Aaron

then Stevie Nicks kinda stole it and change some words

Sorry, no. Sandy Stewart was a co-writer, nothing was stolen and it is disgusting you would post that. Another post up to your normal standard

It was a song Stewart sent to the band but Nicks accidentally sang a few words wrong hence getting a cowriting credit, nothing stolen at all

Lets leave it at. This got derailed enough and I apolgise for my part. I will go as far as saying "Tango in the night" actually stands equally next to "Rumours"

‘Tango…’ is my favourite Fleetwood Mac album and in fact one of my favourite albums of all time.

And even though some of the tracks weren’t successful as singles - it was still one of the biggest selling albums of the 1980s - in fact the 7th biggest seller - more, for example, than True Blue.

I do agree that love for FM has continued to grow - and crossed generations.

I didnt say stolen, I said kinda. She was the only and sole writer at first and that was it. then Stevie Nicks recorded the song and changed some words actually involuntarily cos she didnt know the right words and got added as cowriter but she actually changed 1 line in the song. In her Memoirs Stewart explains she had the dilemma keeping the song vs money and chose the later
