I know I’ve asked about this in the past 😆but do you think Billie will now just scrape a second million selling year after all?

And maybe for next year would Olivia be the most likely to achieve the same? Or would it still be Alex or Huntr/x?

Billie should make it comfortably now, even if I’ve overestimated a little.

Yes Olivia is still over 50k per week so is well positioned. I certainly wouldn’t rule out “Ordinary” doing it. I’m guessing “Golden” might fall away a little faster but we’ll see.

So in theory today should be the day that Last Christmas overtakes Mr Brightside and becomes the first song to reach 6,800,000 chart sales?

Wham were at about 6,606,000 at the start of the week and should do about 200,000 this week.

On the basis that the Killers took 301 days to achieve their last certification 97 days ago, and assuming their consumption continued at the same rate, I currently have Mr. Brightside on 6,793,355.

Using the same methodology. Ed Sheeran took 672 days to achieve his last certification 202 days ago, and assuming his consumption continued at the same rate, I currently have Shape of You on 6,780,357.

Remember that even over the Christmas period, ‘Mr Brightside’ has been increasing its streams. I have it reaching 6,800,000 today.

It’ll be impossible for us to predict whether the OCC will estimate ‘Last Christmas’ the necessary 98,000 ACR sales needed to take the lead.

It would be a great story if it does!

So it looks like the current top 5 is as follows?

01 Mr. Brightside

02 Last Christmas

03 Shape Of You

04 Someone You Loved

05 Do They Know It's Christmas

With All I Want For Christmas Is You just outside?

So AIWFCIY is the 6th song to do 6m+

7th in fact, Perfect was the 6th on 28th November.

I have Band Aid at approx 6.56 million, and thus ahead of Capaldi.

Edited by Matt63

Then I have Bohemian Rhapsody, Wonderwall and Blinding Lights completing the Top 10.

Thinking Out Loud recently was the 11th song to reach 5.0 million.

Then we have Candle In The Wind, One Dance, Shotgun and Take Me to Church making just 15 tracks which have reached 4.8 million.

Does anyone have any different information?

Going deeper I have 30 songs which have reached 4.2 million and 56 songs which have reached 3.6 million but it’s very difficult to keep track of all the pre 1994 million sellers.

But it would've first charted on 3rd January 2025 had it charted 1 week after its release.

I’m hoping 2026 is a bit fresher and we have more newer hits in the EOY. 15 new hits in the top 40 is a poor showing! 2024 felt a lot fresher
