I wondered why it sampled it, thought it was a bit of a random choice, but it seems like its another case of a song being sampled after the original song having recently gone viral, same with Dirty Cash.

Though Aitch and Bou were being more original with their sample choice and so I'm a bit disappointed

It’s not the first indie song Aitch has sampled tbf, he sampled The Stone Roses’ ‘Fools Gold’ on ‘1989’ a few years ago!

Apt now above Gracie on Apple Music

Also 2 & 4 on Amazon (Gracie 3 & 62, Lola 5). Also has been extending the lead on youtube slightly against Gracie & Lola. Might be a very close week for the #1? Might see "APT." stuck at 2 whilst Gracie & Lola switch - although I hope not! "APT." #1 this week with "Messy" #1 next week please *_*

Gorillaz is on day 17 of its current run on Spotify. Aitch x Bou was announced before Christmas and perhaps people were streaming the original track off the back of the announcement? Not sure I've seen Gorillaz pop up anywhere else

IT Girl also free falling on Apple.

No interest to push it on BBC Radio 1.

I mean possibly but unlikely imo. That would’ve required some genuine hype around this Aitch release which clearly doesn’t exist.

The not showing up on any other platform is a big sign of autoplay imo. Other genuinely popular oldies (Sex on Fire, Iris, Naive, all the Fleetwood Mac stuff for example) have a fairly constant presence on Apple too. It only showing up on Spotify suggests to me it’s getting extra promotion there.

On the other side of the coin, I can only assume Oasis have much better promotion on Apple as Wonderwall and Don’t Look Back in Anger are still top 60 there whereas they’re barely top 200 on Spotify.

[EDIT: in relation to Lewis’ post about Gorillaz, forgot to quote it and someone replied in between]

That’ll prob be the anti-British attitude on Spotify Re oasis!

By that logic Naive probably wouldn't be nearly as successful on Spotify, doubt many Americans know the Kooks exist

Very intrigued by how Spotify selects certain songs. Last year they gave some pretty big boosts to "Dock Of The Bay", "Be My Baby" and "Ain't No Sunshine" which seemed pretty left field honestly!

Yes i would be inclined to agree there.

However it seems strange that Oasis can't break that trend but Florence + the Machine and the Kooks to name a couple of examples can, both having two songs in the weekly top 200 two weeks ago.

Not sure about the Kooks, was it a hit in America at the time? Florence surely is known in the US?
I can't imagine many people in the US have even heard of the Kooks and Florence has only ever had two songs chart over there, although she might have a bit more visibility now having been featured on The Tortured Poets Department.

^That. Florence is huge in the US. The first 2 albums both sold over 1 million there.

Lol at people putting Florence in the same category as The Kooks :D

Chase & Status and Stormzy got a #1 in the UK last year, so obviously it is still possible for some to break through, but it's far from the norm now.

but one thing I don't get

you guys get old songs on autopayola??

cos I only get new songs not oldies

never ever ever got an oldie on autopayola

I just tried now and I got SZA, Messy, even the live Hozier but never oldies

I get a lot of the oldies that have showed up on the Spotify charts when I'm actually listening to older songs, guessing it doesn't happen for those listening to contemporary stuff.

I get a mixture of oldies and current stuff, some of the stuff I had the other day:

Yellow - Coldplay

Breakeven - The Script

Sailor Song - Gigi Perez

Torn - Natalie Imbruglia

People Watching - Sam Fender

Every Breath You Take - The Police

Birds of a Feather - Billie Eilish

This Charming Man - The Smiths

Pink Skies - Zach Bryan

Africa - TOTO

There She Goes - The La’s

Should be close but Apt is just too far behind Gracie on Spotify atm of that changes then for sure Gracie is dropping to #3

Central Cee up to #12 on Apple Music. Haven’t heard the song yet but that’s better than his last few releases
