January 21Jan 21 Congrats Scene, I'd say there really was never going to be another winner but I guess just one more person purposefully demoting Chappell could have been enough to swing it for Madison Beer to win instead, so the fact it wasn't just a complete landslide makes it feel much less like a win by default! 'Make You Mine' is a great song too (I'm not otherwise a fan of Madison at all but she popped off for this one x), plus 'HEAT' just about snuck into my points (it was outside on first listen but grew on me more) and the other one of my medalists also finished in the top 5 (we love to see another good song contest result for r Spanish kwen) so a strong top 5 overall! Happy to see Sky Ferreira, Magdalena Bay and Camila Cabello in the top 10 as well and yay a top half finish for my favourite discovery from Juana Rozas. Poor Elyanna deserved better tho! My entry was literally a last second scramble as I almost forgot to enter whoops (hopefully will be better prepared and have more options for 2025) so... yay for not coming last? :teresa: I didn't expect to do super well but kinda hoped it might stand out enough to get an ok result from a semi-niche audience but it didn't really land too well even with some of the voters who I would have expected to like it (i.e. Wolf Alice fans) whoops, nevermind! Thanks Jim for being the only person to rank poor brave Etta in the top half of your votes :jump: + Chez, !!!, Lewis, RFC, Jade and John for the other points (whoops those points from Lewis resulting in your own song coming last ) and thanks Jonjo for hosting ofc! Don't see why not at backdating this contest to 2020 and 2021 - although also hoping we may be getting a potentially Jade hosted edition of the regular PFSC in the not too distant future? x (both in my EOY not that anyone's reading that xx) Oh I am reading it. Which is why I knew as soon as you acted on SyncTube like you were hearing 'Scene Ballerina' for the first time that it was your entry. aka the old uhsting giveaway
January 21Jan 21 Ooh I think that's my first top 10 result in one of these 'Best of' PFSC editions, yay :cheer: thanks all for the Mag Bay support, stream Imaginal Disk x Congrats Scene on the win, not the most surprising result but quality-wise it was easily my favourite here, a turnaround after not really caring for Chappell when she was sent to BJSC. I would be interested in 2020 and 2021 editions! I seem to remember the former being quite strong for pop in particular. Thanks Jonjo for a fab hosting job <3

We're 5 years away from the end of Decade contest so there's plenty of time  Just seeing if the interest is there to even bother starting! (Pleased to see it's a yes though!)
January 21Jan 21 Superb top 5, love them all. For what it’s worth, interesting to see my first choice of entry (Make You Mine) finished 2nd and second choice (HEAT) finished 3rd. Just so on it x Happy to see it was a close one in the end too, even if we did end up with the inevitable! A very strong set of entries on the whole, 2024 was a great year for pop. And pleasantly surprised to see New Woman creep up to top 5 in the end! Would absolutely be up for 2020 & 2021 editions - would it be out of place to, off the back of this contest, ask for top 20s/top 40s to not be included? I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Scene sending his favourite song this time round, but now we’ve seen it does indeed result in a win, I wouldn’t want people to just enter (idk) Midnight Sky and Good 4 U just for an easy win. Not that I’m king of being inspired in these things but there are ~levels, especially with those years having Record Of The Decade results to go off as a guideline for which song would do well.
January 21Jan 21 Happy with my top 10 finish, and thank you to Cameron for my 12 votes. I can't pretend I'm surprised at the song that won, although I do personally feel that well known songs shouldn't be allowed! Also… this is the 3rd of 3 appearances for Dagny! Oh wow really? I had no idea when I entered her! Would absolutely be up for 2020 & 2021 editions - would it be out of place to, off the back of this contest, ask for top 20s/top 40s to not be included? I second this, would definitely be up for 2020/2021 editions and I think it would be a good idea for top 40s to be excluded, unless the majority object to that.
January 21Jan 21 I'm not sure I'd go as far as wanting to ban all top 40 hits, most of the non-BJSC contests only ban top 10 hits and I feel that'd be sufficient. Although really the only reason Chappell being entered here was a "problem" is that it was literally the only massive hit that was entered, there's nothing inherently wrong with having a contest where it's fair game to send obvious huge hits (that was the case for the dance anthems spinoffs in BJSC for example, those had a good mix of big hits and more inspired entries from those who still wanted to send them (which I still always would personally) x) but until this year people just avoided sending them here anyway as if following an unwritten rule that entries should be at least somewhat inspired, so having just the one person picking something so obvious stuck out like a sore thumb. Obviously I don't hold any of this against Scene, he didn't break any rules and pretty sure he didn't even enter the first two editions to be aware of that 'convention'! (This is all funnily enough very analogous to the Sound of 2025 outcome which Chappell of course also won )
January 21Jan 21 I mean, ultimately it's not that deep, it's just a fun contest. I largely just suggested it because, prior to this contest, there'd only been one top 40 entry sent and that was a Purple Disco Machine remix, not the original. So, I thought it wouldn't change the make-up of this competition, given that everyone had been following that unspoken precedent anyway. I actually don't know why we all followed a rule that was never even written down from contest #1, it would be very in my nature to send the cheapest possible song at every given opportunity
January 21Jan 21 I think there's no shortage of rates on the site in which big hits like "Good Luck, Babe!" have their chance to shine. It does make sense for contests like this to exclude big hits, whether the cutoff is Top 10 or Top 40. There'd be zero point in the 2020 version of this being a rerun of Record Of The Decade with "Physical" VS "Midnight Sky".
January 22Jan 22 Madison Beer gets the honorary win! The "difficult" decision I made was not giving Chappell and Gracie points for other two. Well, 'Good Luck, Babe!' still got the most points anyway so I don't feel too bad about it. Edited January 22Jan 22 by All★bySmashMouth
January 22Jan 22 Author I have to look back but both ‘Midnight Sky’ and ‘Good 4 U’ will be ineligible! They had AFs I believe! I’m just debating whether to just have the AF’s we have now + whatever was an AF during the years of 2020 and 2021 or whether to just stick with just the AF’s at the end of those years etc.. I just want to celebrate all things pop. I do try and state in the posts for people to only send something if they LOVE it. Obviously I couldn’t do anything if someone who hated ‘Espresso’ sent ‘Espresso’ to get a win for example, but I’d like to think I trust the members of this site enough to have some dignity and not just send something for what they would think would be an easy win even if they hated it.
January 22Jan 22 Yay thanks for the votes everyone! Ngl I took the lenient rules literally and assumed this was going to be a contest full of the biggest and best hits of the year. It was only when the entries were revealed I realised how much mine stood out like a sore thumb. I’m glad some penalised my entry because I would hate to win by a landslide under these circumstances. thank you Jonjo for hosting!
January 24Jan 24 Glad to have not finished last and didn't expect to do well tbf  Thank you for all that pointed, Eyes Wide Shut   Not surprised that Chappell Roan won, a little predictable but I can't deny it is one of the standout tracks of the year!
