In lieu of the previous SyncTube sessions' weekly polls cutting each week's songs down to a list of 10 options to vote for because no one volunteered to do the work to make such curated lists, for our Hot 100 #1s marathon I'm just going to post one of these threads each week allowing people to vote for whichever songs they want from the full list x

If you don't know what the above sentence is referring to don't worry, this thread is open to participation from anyone (although we're always open to new participants at our weekly listening sessions x), just post in the thread with up to 5 favourites and, if you want, up to 3 least favourites from the below song list. The song with the most favourite nods will get a play at the start of next week's session (and the song with the most least favourite nods will just have a permanent place on a wall of shame for funziez).

Madonna looked to be coming for a comfortable win in the last poll with 'Like A Prayer' but the last few votes saw its lead dwindle to the traditional 1 vote gap, with Billy Joel's 'We Didn't Start The Fire' right on her tail. The bronze medal was shared between Alannah Myles' 'Black Velvet' and Fine Young Cannibals' 'She Drives Me Crazy'. Over on the worst poll we had a first for either poll in that there was a unanimous winner - all 12 people who nominated worst songs picked New Kids On The Block's 'I'll Be Loving You (Forever)' as one of their nominations. Michael Bolton was runner up with only half as many votes for 'How Am I Supposed To Live Without You' and the podium was rounded out by Simply Red's 'If You Don't Know Me By Now'.

Another 40 songs in this poll spanning the 722nd through 761st #1s, from late July 1990 (Glenn Medeiros' 'She Ain't Worth It' (feat. Bobby Brown)) to the end of November 1991 (P.M. Dawn's 'Set Adrift On Memory Bliss'). This poll is very late again due to me being unreliable as ever so it's potentially only open for about 10 hours but if there aren't enough votes by 4pm I'll just leave it open for another week alongside another hopefully more promptly posted poll. x

Not a great week ngl. Can't say there are any really noteworthy near misses (Maxi Priest felt like a scrape to make up 5 here, was between him and P.M. Dawn so I guess honourable mention to them).

Bryan Adams - (Everything I Do) I Do It For You

Roxette - Joyride

this is the weakest batch so far. George Michael is light-years ahead of everything else as a quality record, but there's about 10 excellent tracks, 10 good ones and then after that there's a pile of very average bland US radio-dominated fodder. And then there's some really terrible records. It's hard to focus on any of them they are so forgettable. But these must be singled out for kudos in being chosen in such a strong field for rubbishness:

worst:

Mariah Carey - Love Takes Time (for crimes to warbling over a sickly plodding 80's-sounding production)

Timmy T - One More Try (for simpering bland-synth self-pity cliched trite that any self-respecting woman would not take you back just for expecting this to win her back)

Michael Bolton - When A Man Loves A Woman (for taking a stone-soul classic and barking it into the grave like a foghorn testosterone-fuelled seal. Michael Bolton played Upton Country park some years ago, a short 5 minute walk away, and I swear shipping vessels were floundering into sand-banks in the darkness confused by the lighthouse warning foghorn-sounds coming from slightly inland :teresa: )

and when pretty dreary tracks from Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston arent bad enough to make the final 3..........!

Bryan Adams - (Everything I Do) I Do It For You

C+C Music Factory - Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now) (feat. Freedom Williams)

EMF - Unbelievable

Madonna - Justify My Love

P.M. Dawn - Set Adrift On Memory Bliss

Not the best week x

Color Me Badd - I Adore Mi Amor

Michael Bolton - When A Man Loves A Woman

Stevie B - Because I Love You (The Postman Song)

EMF - Unbelievable

Londonbeat - I've Been Thinking About You

Madonna - Justify My Love

P.M. Dawn - Set Adrift On Memory Bliss

Worst:

Stevie B - Because I Love You (The Postman Song) and this is so ghastly that I won’t vote for anything else though my Top 3 would have been the same as Jim and Chez)

Best

EMF - Unbelievable

George Michael - Praying For Time

That's why I gave last week's session a miss. That and the fact that choosing just three as the worst is a real struggle :(

Bryan Adams - (Everything I Do) I Do It For You

EMF - Unbelievable

I won't pick any for the worst as I wasn't at the session.

We have a clear winner from this poll already :magic: but if any further votes come in today (Jordan?) I'll still count them to the stats x

I quite like both the Whitney tracks, surprised they’re getting such a bad reaction from a couple of folk.
