It's not undefendable. One man's trash is another man's treasure... what some find to be abysmal or idiotic, others can find to be touching, profound, relatable. It's all in the interpretation and what happens to move you. I never understand why anyone gets on their high horse about lyrics and tries to tell someone they're wrong. Just focus on what you like!

I think the lyrics are fine - they're no worse than the lyrics to some of the other current hits!

In fact I quite like the lines:

and
