The fraud investigation in related to Nigel Farage accepting £5 million from a cryptocurrency billionaire has been suspended after he resigned as an MP.

I don’t really get the point of this, if he gets re-elected he will surely have to potentially defend the seat depending on the enquiry. Just seems a bit stupid.

Nigel Farage's hopes of becoming Prime Minister have received a sharp blow after a major new poll placed Reform UK third with just 16 seats. Lord Ashcroft, a former Conservative Party treasurer and pollster, found Reform on 18% in his survey between July 30 and August 3 - its lowest level since 2024. Andy Burnham's Labour led on 27%, with Kemi Badenoch's Conservatives on 23%.

Yeh I reackon Badenoch is more popular than the Tory party currently a bit like 97-2001 under William Hague who equalled Blair at PMQs but their salesperson can’t sell when people won’t listen to the pitch!

She is policy-wise Farage Lite, Farage without so much controversy! If more controversies betide Farage and Reform, she and her party will benefit.

The closer she moves towards Farage, the closer she gets to writing off the 60-odd seats the party lost to the Lib Dems, as well as risking losing even more.

Yeh agreed it’s a hard balance to make. I do believe a Tory party the English are ready to listen to would win those said Lib Dem seats no matter what. I think some of those seat (bar a few) are tory when Labour are doing poorly and liberal when there a protest against the blue party no matter their policies.

Many of the seats won by the Lib Dems in 2024 have been Tory seats for many decades, if not for ever.

Yes, but in many of the seats the alternative is the Liberals not Labour, so if things turn around again (which we will know they will now the establishment media has decided to go for Farage and Reform) those seats will likely turn Tory again.

Why would previous Tory voters who switched to the Lib Dems two years ago revert to an even more right-wing Tory party?

They won’t move there in 2029 but more likely in 2034.

As I said previously the ideology or positions don’t matter as much as the electoral cycle when it comes to these kind of seats. But your right they may have to move to the centre if they are allowed in the 2030s to do that.
