  • Well then! That's my fifth win in a song contest on this site and my first in nearly 5 years (since Moaning winning Nuggets XII in May 2020 - previous wins were BJSCs 67 & 74 in 2014/15 and PFSC I

Congratulations Bray - really happy for you to win one of these as I know you haven’t always had good luck in them. The Rachid Taha track was a really interesting take on a classic and I particularly

Thanks Jade and Cow for a point each. In general I guess this contest was mostly the wrong audience for my entry - perhaps one or two more big fans later on, we'll see

Already knew this version of 'The Riddle' well from plug.dj back in the day - works surprisingly well (even if still not quite as good as the original)!

AH Gold and gooddelta now with Groove Armada's Madonna track done for a BBC Live Lounge and West End Girls version of the Pet Shop Boys and Dusty classic (my favourite song by PSB incidentally). Chicks on Speed and Gigi get the 12s.

AH Gold (Groove Armada)

12 Chicks on Speed

10 Fratellis

08 Kelsey Lu

07 Rachid Taha

06 Emma Conquest

05 Sophie Ellis-Bextor

04 West End Girls

03 Clubdrugs

02 Sylver

01 Tori Amos

gooddelta

12 Gig D’Agostino

10 Rachid Taha

08 Mr Ed Jumps the Gun

07 Chicks on Speed

06 Sylver

05 Groove Armada

04 Dolly Dots

03 William Shatner

02 Emma Conquest

01 Sophie Ellis-Bextor

Rachid is back at the top by 5 points over Sylver as they continue to trade blows. Emma Conquest looks to have made a gap between 3rd and 4th and isn't quite out of the running despite dropping back. Mr Ed's big 8 points from gooddelta sees Dinosaur Jr drop in to last place (undeservedly if you ask me but what do I know?)

Scoreboard

90 Rachid Taha

85 Sylver

74 Emma Conquest (Severin)

66 Nina Simone (Julian_)

66 Kelsey Lu

63 Clubdrugs (clubdrugs)

The vetoed song was C** On Feel The Noize by Oasis which we felt had DISGUSTENG smut in its title puke. Sorry, Wardy.

I'd heard the Groove Armada track from listening back to the very first BJSC which it was also sent to (a little before Tartford's time but not by much!), cool to hear it again here though.

Thanks for the votes so far. I know the West End Girls cover doesn't reinvent the wheel but it adds a nice Scandipop sheen. I've always been fond of this version and nearly sent it to BJSC in the very early days.

West End Girls were a PSB tribute act, as the name suggests, from Sweden. I liked the addition of Magnus Carlson (the lead singer of indie band Weeping Willows) on this as it was cool to hear the male/female parts sung in the opposite way.

Really enjoyed this one Cody! Made me smile.

Oh I will now post my acts original performance of their cover, dressed as sushi…..

Up next we reveal the names behind the two front runners - and neither get any points from their rival competitor!

Addy! gave us Sylver's Abba cover and Brer was the one behind Rachid Taha.

12s go to Nina Simone and The Breath of Life

Addy! (Sylver)

12 Nina Simone

10 Gigi D’Agostino

08 Groove Armada

07 Adam Lambert

06 Tori Amos

05 Clubdrugs

04 West End Girls

03 Dolly Dots

02 Mr Ed Jumps the Gun

01 The Breath of Life

Brer (Rachid Taha)

12 The Breath of Life

10 Kelsey Lu

08 Clubdrugs

07 Tori Amos

06 Gigi D’Agostino

05 Emma Conquest

04 Dinosaur Jr

03 Nina Simone

02 Groove Armada

01 Sophie Ellis-Bextor

Suddenly it all closes up again with Nina Simone moving up to third. Kelsey Lu drops away but Emma Conquest stays in the fight and Clubdrugs keeps the pressure up. Despite another 4 points Dinosaur Jr can't lift themselves off bottom.

Scoreboard

90 Rachid Taha (Brer)

85 Sylver (Addy!)

81 Nina Simone (Julian_)

79 Emma Conquest (Severin)

76 Clubdrugs (clubdrugs)

76 Kelsey Lu

73 Gigi D’Agostino (Dobbo)

67 The Breath Of Life (Jade)

53 Tori Amos

53 Groove Armada (AH Gold)

46 West End Girls (gooddelta)

46 Chicks on Speed (Chez Wombat)

44 Pentatonix (Herbs)

42 Fratellis (Mango)

40 Adam Lambert (Scene)

39 Sophie Ellis-Bextor (Jester)

36 William Shatner

33 Halocene (Cowtzy)

32 Paraorchestra with Brett Anderson and Charles Hazelwood (Suedehead)

27 Dolly Dots (WoW73)

Oh oops I've listened to the first edition of BJSC before but completely forgot it was in that lol enjoyed it a lot anyway even if technically not a discovery then, got my 10 points.

There are now only three voters left to be revealed and it remains very close at the top.

A maximum possible score of 36 points is available and so it's still wide open at the top and bottom.

But as there were an odd number of voters the next set will be revealed on their own

Well it turns out I might be reaching the heights of Locust again after all magic (in fact I already have more points than that got in total). I'll post some more after the final results since we're so close to the end anyway but how exciting xx

(fwiw if I was going to predict a winner I think I would have said either Sylver or Gigi D'Agostino! but yay for me not shooting my own foot with the former kink though it wasn't far off my points, coming in 12th)

Off to bed here, but thanks for hosting Severin - and to the voters for my favourite group of all time, Dutch group the Dolly Dots. Much appreciated!

Ooh Rachid Taha was my guess for Bré cheeseblock cool to see that leading and thank you very much for 12 points! cheer

Thanks for sneaking me in too, Addy.

Thanks Bré for the points - your song was just outside my votes, it's close at the top so near the end!
