Ordinary has done pretty well why couldn’t others do it like Alex?

They obviously haven't caught on in the pubs...

I'll ask down my local tonight why ordinary streams are down

Not to pile on more, but do think in general it's a folly to only stick to the subsidiary chart that best presents the narrative. Last week the song was #5 on the official streaming chart but only #14

A couple of new entries:

ne 181. Charli xcx - party 4 u (happy the brilliant How I'm Feeling Now era is getting some attention)

ne 192. Billy Joel - Piano Man (classic!!)

In an exciting development at the top of the chart, 'Ordinary' falls below 500k for the first time in over a month 😱

an Ordinary flop :D but how can it be when everybody is talking about it!

BIRDS OF A FEATHER #3 seriously?

Streams unsurprisingly low across the board due to Easter Sunday, would expect the same tomorrow on Bank Holiday Monday.

Old songs in general seem to benefit from this for whatever reason, Dreams at #24 might be the highest its been since the 2020 viral moment.

Also apparently it's charted before (even with a peak of #88) but a big fan of You Can Call Me Al showing up at #189

Azizam doing strangely well today. His CD’s are released May 2nd. Ed gearing up for a strategic #1 though remains to be seen. Personally I’m not listening to ordinary this week to let the numbers drop to try and save it from ACR the next week

A few new peaks actually - sombr x2, Ravyn, Addison, MOLIY

To be completely honest, I can see why Ordinary is doing so well. I was talking with my friends about pop music and they were saying they don't make songs like they used to and how they don't know what's in the charts anymore now there's no Top of The Pops. So I played Ordinary on the Jukebox and everybody stood up and clapped. It really resonates with people. I think it will be year-end #1.

Strangely enough I've not met any people who think the song is more than a 5/10 but I guess the people I've talked to about it have more eclectic tastes or see that it's number 1/by an influencer with a production team behind him and are biased against it. If I had played the song to them without context they might've felt differently.

Was the jukebox in a pub perchance? 😁

The message I’m getting is that “Ordinary” sounds better after 5 pints! Sadly I don’t drink very much these days so I’m stuck with hearing it in the cold light of day.

It’s a love song and probably the demographic most receptive to the song are 18-40 straight females so it’s not surprising it’s become polemic outside of this demographic but is what it is. I think the summer needs more upbeat and dance music so ACR or not I give Ordinary 4-5 more weeks before it’s completely out of the top streaming songs

Ed has really pushed the release date of the CD by a week just because Ordinary has avoided the ACR last week ? LMAO Ed is so obsessed by the charts.

Why is this a bad thing? Aren't we just as obsessed by the charts? lol

If an artist isn't obsessed with the charts, then they're 'so stupid!' for not strategising with the charts, can't win.

Oh no an artist trying to maximise their chart position what a disgraceful thing to do 😱

Tbf if more artists were like him and do stuff like this more people would get much stronger chart positions and potentially more longevity and exposure

Only a month over 500k what a flop 😱

love Billie and Birds of a feather is a great song

but nearly 1 year in the upper Spotify and currently #3 is too much ☠️

will be interesting to see what happens with the Ordinary song and if it can avoid ACR

the song is down a lot this week cos of the so many days of holidays, but that means it will easily increase next week as it's a regular tracking week with no holidays

Edited by Bjork

I don't get the assumption that songs stream less because of holidays, surely it would be the other way round with more people off

I personally listen to a lot more music when I'm at work than at home. The Spotify numbers seem to support this.

Streams of #50 song on Spotify the last few Fridays (new entries in top 50)

21 March: 151k (0)

28 March: 161k (7)

4 April: 157k (3)

11th April: 162k (1)

18th April: 138k (1) [BANK HOLIDAY]

Pretty clear that the assumption is valid
