For me "Wet Hot American Dream" is by far the best song on the album. The rest is just average.

I fear she may get her wish with that title.

  • Y’know what… This is actually growing on me. I should never have doubted her to bring the pop bops!!! I’M SO SORRY QUEEN!!! ‘Don’t Click Play’, ‘Sucks To Be My Ex’ and ‘World’s Smallest Violin’… YE

In a surprise to absolutely no-one, this failed to chart top 100. 😬

We don’t get access to the Top 200 anymore I don’t think.

Although I’m not surprised, I’m actually gutted for her. I saw the full Podcast interview with her the other day and she’s so sweet and been through quite a bit within the industry and it makes me wonder why she’s been quiet the last few weeks into the run up of this album campaign.

She serves perfectly servicible pop imo. Sometimes that’s all I need tbh. The album is a big grower.

It was part of album campaign and now it's the main topic of interviews. a few days before the album's release, Rolling Stone posted about her disappearance and her team also paid popcrave and popbase to tweet about it. on release day Rolling Stone dropped an exclusive interview with Ava conducted by the very same person who had reported on her disappearance just days earlier. her fans noticed that she was all the time active on Instagram - she liked Taylor's album announcement just after it was posted and some other posts...

Shame this missed the Top 100 (though not unexpected), while it's not a patch on 'Diamonds & Dancefloors', I really enjoyed listening to it while waiting for my flight back home the other day!

So sad to read that the album flopped that badly. I love Ava Max, and I really enjoy some of the tracks from the new album. Listening a lot to "Skin in the game", How can I dance", "Know somebody" and the title track "Don't click play".

My feelings on Ava Max... is that she's firmly been in a lane of uncomplicated pop songs for many years, and I personally appreciate that. I actually like that her music is uncomplicated and reliable, in the sense you go into an Ava Max album having an idea of what to expect. There's a ton of male artists who don't pivot in their careers and what's more it isn't expected of them, they serve up more of the same and it's lapped up. Ava Max can be that, it doesn't have to be a negative.

I don't want this to sound too harsh, but I've never really been invested in her as the person behind the music, the artist or the personality. I've very rarely watched or read an Ava Max interview, or followed what she's up to on social media. 99.9% of the time I've literally just checked out her music. So I guess in that sense, I'm not a stan. I have loved a lot of her music though and I always check it out.

I genuinely don't think the problem with her third album era has been music quality. People can consider me deluded if they like. kink I feel like it's pretty much everything else surrounding her that puts her career in the place it's currently in. How she's perceived as a person (negative social media regarding her i.e. the perception that she samples constantly). The management/label issues she's suffered. Falling out of favour with streaming platforms.

Ava has a solid run of hits behind her, and despite her latest album not doing well, she's not forgotten about in general. With expectations kept in check, I think she can tour. Not as ambitiously as what was proposed this year, and again that strikes me as being a management issue. Hopefully her new team have their heads screwed on and have good ideas for where to take her next.

Ava herself might disagree with me on my next point, but I don't think every music artist needs to be a massive star with consistently huge hits to justify being around, not in this day and age. For some reason, there's still a lot of expectations with Ava... but we are 7 years on from Sweet But Psycho at this point. Sometimes it's ok for things to settle into... not being anywhere close to that level anymore. I don't think she's doomed! I think she can remain comfortable in her lane, with potential to do better with her next project.
